I got this rotary hammer close to a year ago. OPT had a circular saw kit for $445, with two 8ah batteries, a really nice bag and the charger, and this Rotary hammer came free with it, with the dust extractor and hard case (but no more battaries).

The Makita LXRH02 was the first to have the quick change SDS - Drill chuck and that released back in 2012. I had the LXRH01 with vacuum attachment since 2012. It was the cordless 1st BL SDS-plus drill to the market I believe. Ever since then I left my hilti te-5 because I was tired of cords. Nice review.

Finally someone made a video on this i had one for so long but there isn’t much info anywhere on this exact model

I bought one specifically based on this review and it broke in the first week. The hammer drill function works just fine. But as soon as you change chucks and try to drill a hole no matter what bit size it just cuts out as soon as it senses any torque. And yes it is on the drill only setting

Wow, Metabo stepping up in 2020. Love the competition being created within the big 4 (I.e. metabo, Dewalt, Milwaukee and Makita). Thx for sharing your thoughts and I may just take the plunge and pick one up given the very sale low price.

This tool is from 2015 or 2014 (not precisely sure). I put it on par with the similar Bosch GBH 18-26. Outside of their german made drills and outsourced products (ie collomix, and recently steinel), I’ve found their cordless power tools to be extremely poor and they do keep getting worse.

@A Concord Carpenter. Thanks Rob for a thorough review. Great tips on using the dust collection when drilling deeper holes than the tool is designed. Hope you and your family stay safe and well.

I could have got the Makita Cordless for a REALLY good deal. But the more I thought about it, the more I think I'm staying corded on a rotary drill, for now. My reason being is for long extended use, really. If you only need to drill a few holes, those are over kill. But if you're chipping away tile, concrete, brick etc. I think the cordless will eat too many batts.

Metabo was originally a German company which sold only the highest industrial grade of power tools but they weren't readily available at retail in the US sold only by industrial distributors.

I’ve owned about a dozen of their tools, I’d argue against that “only” part. They’ve always padded out their line with bad products. Their metal fab stuff has always been solid (obviously very popular grinders), though. Drill/Drivers they are good at, too. The caveat being you’re looking at the flagship models and also immune to the loudest gear grinding in the business (industrial, indeed).

Great Review👍, but Metabo is not the only one with a quick change chuck. Bosch has got one in their corded D-handle Bulldog 1 1/8, in the corded 1 1/8 rotary hammer, as well as in their older cordless Bulldog (gbh 18v 26 f in germany) and the 36v model. And i think Makita has also one. Stay safe and healthy👷♂️

I’m almost certain that the quick change models aren’t available in the USA. I may be wrong. Bosch literally just released their 18v Festool copy here. Up until recently, only Fein and Metabo have been bringing their swappable chuck models stateside. This has been a “thing” for me. 😂 I’ve imported a lot of tools.

Hey rob thanks for the brilliant video. Quick question would this machine in your opinion go through a steel lintel 6mm sds drill bit to fix a mounting bracket for blinds installations
Makita SDS+ 36v (18x2) has a removable chuck like this

Great video thanks! I’m currently running the M18 platform, looking into the Milwaukee. Have you done any testing or reviews on their latest model? If so, I’d like to hear your thoughts. Also the most I would be using this for is drilling through concrete footings to anchor 4x4 or 6x6 post for deck building and also some occasional ledger board fastening to brick or concrete.
