Dr. Palmer, Kudos! Thank you for recognizing and proselytizing the reciprocal relationship between metabolic health and mental health! I wish I had both personally and professionally become aware of this relationship and its implications for lifestyle and the practice of professional psychology 50 years ago! - Retired Psychologist (February 2024)

As I look back on my life I wonder how different things could have been were it not for the fake nutritional guidelines imposed upon us by the charismatic and utterly wrong Ancel Keys. I've had 50 years of obesity, when I started by first calorie controlled diet - the first of many which led enexorably to being 254lbs and on 7 medications. I also wonder about how different it might have been for my schizophrenic brother, who died too early for this change in thinking to have benefitted him. Now at the grand old age of 64, and for the last 2.5 years I've been 204lbs and down to 2 medications- all thanks to Fung, Taubes, Teicholz, Lustig and Bikman. I look forward to reading Palmer's book to add another element to my understanding of metabloism

Dr. Palmer, I’m a PMHNP student (in my final year) and have been following your work for several years now, this is an absolute masterpiece of a presentation, the best I’ve seen you produce so far. Thank you so much for continuing to do this work. Btw, I presented Doris’s case study in one of my classes. I’m sorry to hear of her passing. All the best.

Hello Dr. Palmer. Just found your channel. I have been watching you on many other platforms for almost one year now. Thank you so much for your invaluable contribution. I know you say a lot of the findings aren’t new, but had you not brought them to light in this your manner, the collective would never have known the important doors it opens now in healthcare. Your work is the very shift both the psychiatric and medical fields drastically (drastically is not even adequate) needs right now. I’m shocked more people are not discussing your work, at least not outside my nerdy circle. I am helping to spread your word, because too many need to know. I would also like to extend my sympathy for you on behalf of your mother. Your story brought me to tears and I wished I could hug you at that moment. You are paying her honor and blessings forward though your passionate work. 🫂 Thank you so very much

Wow so powerful!! Great info and awesome findings. Throughout my own keto journey I have found that my mental clarity has help me. I equate myself to a duck, it (stress, anxiety, and general life issues) rolls off my back and doesn't really have the effect it used to... the longer I'm on it the better it gets..

Thanks for your work related to mental health! I found your through the Huberman podcast episode. I'm diagnosed chronic major depression. Briefly? My symptoms have existed for 15+ years. I started therapy for the first time 3 years ago and light dosage of meds 1.5 years ago, but recently got off due to side effects. My depression symptoms never exceeded light suicidal ideations, with never attempting or even creating a plan. I've alsways seemed to have some optimism about conquering my depression. Anyway, I appreciate finding your work! I am going to be talking to my PCP and my psych about keto as an option to try. Luckily I'm located 20 minutes from Stanford University so I'm hopeful my medical care team is familiar with ketosis monitoring and the mental health info you document here.

Dr. Palmer, thank you. Your work is life-changing and your compassion is contagious. Here's my question: If two people have similar levels of metabolic dysfunction in the brain, why would one person experience schizophrenia and the other person "only" experience depression? Are these conditions associated with metabolic dysfunction in specific regions of the brain, or does it have more to do with the severity of the metabolic dysfunction....or is there something completely different going on? I can only imagine how busy work keeps you these days, but I would love to gain your insight if you have time. Thanks.

Dr. Palmer, what about ADHD. I've fought Chronic Depression since a couple year after Desert Storm. I started IF in November of 2020, then in May of 21 I started experimenting with Keto. Then in September 21 the VA allowed me to volunteer for the Virta Health Reversing Diabetes program. I haven't needed my antidepressants in over a year. But I just discovered I do have Adult ADHD. I must start learning strategies for poor Executive Function skills. Hopefully we will try some meds for a jump start. Note; I was 300lbs ten years ago, now I'm down to 177lbs!

Would a keto or carnivore diet help my daughter who is intellectually disabled? She is developmentally delayed. She eats a very carb heavy bland beige diet.
@rubyhart793510 ай бұрын
I am not a dr, but my understanding is that humans never ate a carb heavy diet before processed food came into our lives. I would recommend looking up Dr Ken Berry on here. Everyone would benefit from removing factory produced foods from their diet and increasing red meat whether they have mental health conditions or not.

Great talk. I've been diagnosed with an autoimmune disease (psoriatic arthritis and peripheral neuropathy) and I'm doing my research on what behavioral and dietary changes can I accommodate to avoid methotrexate. Is there any evidence of ketosis helping people with autoimmune diseases? I would love to hear about people who got better with their condition similar to mine.

According to this retired electrician, obesity is not a metabolic disorder for the simple reason it's caused by calorie restriction. It started with the use of BMI, which Ansel Keys recommended back in the 70s. Like diabetes, it's the result of industry disinformation. But in the case of obesity, it's the foods you're not eating. There are more diabetic normal-weight people than there are diabetic fat people. Diabetes is most likely caused by vegetable oil. As long as they're not consumed with fat, carbs may not be as bad as we think, even though they are nutrient-deficient. Many doctors have no problem telling completely healthy people they need to lose weight. Models have not always been represented as ultra-thin as they are now. From 1959 to 1978, there was a remarkable shift towards a thinner ideal in the fashion industry: models represented in big magazines such as Vogue, Ladies Home Journal, and Woman's Day decreased significantly in weight. During the 1980s and the 1990s, the size of models in fashion magazines decreased even more. (body represented around 13-19% below expected weight)

We only need a very small portion of our brain. So resurrection of cells may not be necessary for complete remission. Do we have a way to measure the possible point of no return? How much improvement would we need to justify intervention? 24:35
@chazwyman5 ай бұрын
The idea that we only use a small part of the brain is a complete myth. We use it all at some point, but key areas are active at any given time. Some areas are known for their functions more than others, and some areas have functions whose failure has more catestrophic effects, but nothing is wasted.

Can ketogenic diet help with autoimmune diseases? In my case is psoriatic arthritis and peripheral neuropathy, probably triggered by chronic insomnia and stress (living in Brazil in the past 6 years wasn't easy. Far right fascism destroyed general wellness and environment)

It helps my Belgian cousin (an endocrinologist) a lot with psoriasis and hashimoto. Eating simple carbs and processed foods is inflammatory to joints. I do low carb and it helps a lot with my osteoarthritis and hashimoto. I am not in Ketosis because I eat some fruits (cantaloupe melons, blueberries, and oranges). I find cantaloupes really help with inflammation). I don't eat grains, legumes or food with sugar added artificially. I eat lean meat, healthy fats, European cheese only (I'm in the US) , nuts, and tons of non starchy veggies. Sometimes I have squash. I take Alpha Lipoic Acid for nerve pain. I avoid almost all processed foods bc they are inflammatory unless I am in Uruguay and I can't resist their dulce de leche. I find gluten and sugar are the worst triggers for me. You just had a Jan 6 repeat!! Lets hope the bolsonaro insurrectionists settle down. They picked up all the bad examples from here.
