This reminds me of a crazy idea I had around 6 months ago to make the Asriel fight turn the entire window into the battle box that the soul is stuck in, while having Asriel himself actually fly around the desktop and shoot his projectiles at you in the window. Him transitioning into the second phase would be like he’s eating every file on your computer. Tbh it wouldn’t even be all that difficult for me to implement myself, as extensions already exist in GameMaker to make windows without a background, and others exist to open multiple windows at once. Never got around to doing it because I have my own stuff to work on though.

@ not built into GameMaker, it uses a third party extension that adds to the regular functionality via a C++ DLL. YellowAfterLife and several other creators have plenty of extensions with meta functionality like this uploaded to itch, including ones for dragging files into AND out of the game window, opening multiple windows/game processes at once, executing other programs, binding the game to other windows as a sort of “sub-window”, and so on. What you may be surprised to find out IS built into GameMaker is 3D games, however. It doesn’t have a 3D room editor, but it’s entirely possible to make 3D games with it, such as IMSCARED.

The fun thing is that Toby fox firstly wanted to make undertale more interactive with player's PC in various ways. For example, the game would delete itself if you'll chose the "erase the world" option on genocide rotute, but because of that and other things, windows defender would take it as a virus judging by the games code, and delete the exe file before anyone could launch it. So I am pretty sure if not the false positive identifying by anti viruses, Toby would do something like that. Tl;dr, good job, this is really impressive!

Actually, it does do that... IF you put Undertale's EXE file inside of the SAVE DIRECTORY, not the game directory. Toby Fox decided to put where it checks to delete Undertale.exe in the save file directory, meaning that it never actually deletes the game. It's likely this was either a mistake, or he decided to keep the code to checking in the save file directory so that steam wouldn't get upset/antivirus software wouldn't get upset as you said. You can see it in action if you decide to put a copy of Undertale.exe in the save file directory and complete genocide. It does actually get removed.

suggestions if you ever return to this: each time omega flowey's screen goes to static right before the soul mode switch, make the background fade to pitch black instead of staying rapidly rabid if you can try making the static bg in the soul segments move like a gif maybe make the souls more stand out in finale startup and further outside the box like give them an outline i guess the healing spawning from further out but moving faster in the intro to finale cause otherwise it looks like the heals are being teleported in change the bouncing flowey tv's face depending on health or damage taking
