Tobias' voice totally fits the band, I thought the same as you when I first started listening to them. No one could ever replace him as the voice of Ghost.

Part of the brilliance of Ghost is that it sounds like... Ghost. You toss a random "metal" singer over this stuff, and it instantly gets somewhat less interesting. This dude can write catchy songs, and is one of the few actually creating art with the dichotomy of the music/vocals/theatrics/lyrics. Originally I was surprised by the vocals as well, but then you read the extremely dark lyrics, see the theatrics, and begin to understand "the joke", and it makes sense what he is going for there. "Square Hammer" is one of the catchiest songs ever written by anyone in my opinion.

I very much appreciate you staying true to your opinion. Most reactors would just say how much they love everything. As a ghost fan, I would urge you to check out their first record; Opus Eponymous. That record is so f...ing kickass, I'm sure it could change your opinion on this. Keep it up and stay true brother!

For me its got to start with Infestisium. Ritual off of the first is good but I have to say its the next three have way more catchier tunes.

If it makes you feel any better, the lead singer himself (Tobias Forge) also has the same opinion of his voice. Originally, he only wanted to be the guitarist and primary songwriter for the band while he sought out a more fitting lead singer's voice, but was told by the record label interested in his music that the voice they heard on the demos was one of the top reasons they wanted to sign this "band" (It's actually a 1 man band who singlehandedly writes and records all the music himself in the studio- playing each instrument himself -who hires tour musicians to dress up and perform the songs live for crowds). The label wanted him to be the lead singer when even he didn't want to be either. Naturally, it came down to either remaining a starving artist on the streets no one's heard of, or take a risk with a company who was 100% convinced he was the voice the band needed. Thus, he gave in and became the lead singer even though he doesn't always think his voice is the best match for his music either.

A lot of people, including me, felt that way about his vocals in the beginning. I let go of how I expect things should sound and got way into them. Great live performance too.

Definitely check out Square Hammer, though it probably won't do much to dispel your misplaced-vocals criticism, but it's absolutely one of their best songs. Then probably 'Dance Macabre' or/and 'He Is' to show the more parody elements of the band (they're also really good songs but you definitely understand them more through those), and finally 'From the Pinnacle to the Pit' would be right up your street I think.

I thought the same thing about his voice until I heard square hammer which for some reason his vocals seemed perfect for, now I can’t imagine how any other voice would even work

I respect your opinion on his voice but in reality you may think a different lead singer would be better however tobias forge is Ghost. The band members dont actually record in studio its mostly him with a little help and he writes eveything. So I think hes perfect for it. But also gotta say I dont believe his intentions were to ever sing. He wanted to play the guitar.

The singer; Tobias Forge, is the founding member and architect of the band. The reason the other band members are referred to as "nameless ghouls" would be that they are just hired musicians. Tobias has hired, fired and been sued by about 23 other players. But the trademarked name "Ghost" is registered to him alone. Just like "KISS" is trademarked to Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley.

I felt this way about Ghost and Coheed and Cambria. I loved the music, but took issue with the voice. Then you get pulled in after 8-10 listens, and you can't imagine it any other way/don't want it any other way. Also. i've seen many amazing concerts, but i've never had more fun at one than at a Ghost concert.

Hallo :) I think what you notice is: He Sometimes sounds powerless, soft harmless, even bored. I think it a Stylistical choice. Because the devil is a deceiver, (?) And that's really creepy. In a good way. Greetings from Germany.

Fun fact: he never really wanted to be the singer. The band is his brain-child, and he wanted to get a singer so he could be the guitarist, but no one would take the part, so he got stuck with it.

Hey! Enjoyed your video. His voice has been an acquired taste for me. My instant love for Square Hammer came with a caveat. I'm not sure if the taste had been thoroughly acquired by the time Rats came out, or just that his voice was the perfect complement to the song (for me), but you're the only reason I'd have ever thought to question it. I appreciate you doing it so respectfully.

I am a recent fan of ghost and in my personal opinion the voice fits with the rest, personally I wouldn't change it but I can see why some people feel like it doesn't belong there.

Maybe you thought the voice don't match with Papa (name of the singer) bc he uses a mask and you can't see his mouth moving, it looks weird to see his voice coming out his face haha

As I love Ghost they are refreshing, I tell ya I got tired of Nu Metal and what came after it. Ozzy, Alice Cooper, Black Sabbath, blue oyster cult in allot of that in them. That is stuff I grew up on and having a Eagles like harmony sometimes I personally enjoy. the theater images of Evil Church with a wink of humor is even more awesome.
