Native German Speaker here In the lyrics there is no indecision at all because in the lyrics is no "Yes and No" but only "No" the verse is literally word by word: You have me asked. (= German word order = broken down into You (Du), You have (Du hast), You have me (Du hast mich), You have me asked (Du hast mich gefragt) = basically "You have asked me" And I said nothing. (meaning "I didn´t reply to your question") the chorus is the church wedding vow which is asked by the priest to both of the couple seperately during the wedding ceremony directly before he declares the couple to be married - and - he answered the 2 questions of 1."eternal loyalty for the partner" 2 "eternal love for the partner" both with a clear "No" even twice 2 times (that´s very decisive and not indecisive..just saying)= basically he is blowing the wedding in front of the altar in the very last second. So basically the song implies that the girl dragged him in front of the altar without having his consent and so he left her right there in front of the altar. BUT there is an - auditive - word play in place in the first sentence by tricking the mind´s first thought in the way that sentence is performed...because as long as the in single words repeated broken down first sentence "You have asked me" isn´t finished with the last word "gefragt/asked" the sentence hasn´t the right context because it sounds as like as saying "You, You hate, You hate me" because "Du hast mich/You have me" and "Du hasst mich/You hate me" sounds exactly the same. (It´s kinda as like for instance saying in English "My, My deer, My deer has " but you very likely will mishear "My dear has" because it will be "your first thought" and only the last word will then reveal if it´s actually "dear" or actually "deer" by then finishing the sentence with the closing word "antlers" = that´s kinda how that worked with "Du hast") But in the aftermath of the song the misheard "You hate me" - although it wasn´t said - gets context because of the following chorus because the chorus implies that he left her at the wedding ceremony which is for her very likely a huge embarrassment..and for doing that to her she might hate him now. The open question is : Was he just mean...or... was he to such an extent under her thumb that only in the face of the altar he got finally his shit together and parted which he should have done way long ago.

Rammstein songs are usually pretty straight forward with their message if you take the lyrics literally. The deeper meaning behind their songs often get lost in translation. The song is actually about toxic relationships or even marriage and not an conflict in one persons mind.

So "You have" is actually the name of the song and mostly what he is singing in the music, but of course he plays around with the similar sounding "You hate", so to an extent both are true here. There's also some other homophones he uses in this song to distort the meaning.

Rammstein's shows are on a whole other world level. Seen them in San Antonio and there was so much heat from the fire show that we were sweating through our clothes. The whole crowd woke up the next day with a smoker's cough! Amazing show!!!!

I was fortunate enough to see them a few years ago as the final act on the first night of a new music festival, they were the only reason I went, and even though it was a ‘small’ venue with toned down pyrotechnics, they had these canons that shot massive fireballs and you could feel the heat all the way across the stadium. But their live shows are awesome, their music videos are absolutely stunning and many of their lyrics are much more deeper and have double and triple meanings. Rammstein is known for their suggestive lyrics. Yes it’s a song about wedding and vows, but the feel of the song suggests it’s not a positive song. It’s embodied in the wordplay of ‘you hate me’ which becomes ‘you asked me and I didn’t answer’. The lyrics don’t say much, but combined with the harsh industrial sound, the meaning of Rammstein songs has to be felt imo.

Fun Fact because it wasnt mentioned yet - the "dance move" Till does at 0:42 onwards resultet from an accident on stage in the late 90s where he dislocated his kneecap and hammered it back in place like this. It was so iconic that it resulted in this dance coming over and over again

Rammstein have always been my band, my band that looks after me when i need help. When the dark becomes too much Rammstein help me find the light again. I have been a fan for the past 24 years, but only in the past few years have i actually taken time and been studying German, this has taken my love so much further for this band. Two days after christmas 2020 i lost my Dad, who i had not seen since my wedding (weeks before the UK went into full lockdown) I was allowed to travel to sort funeral arrangements (by this point we were in our second full lockdown) I was numb or i was a sobbing mess, there was no inbetween. Over time i managed to pick up the broken pieces and Rammstein were right there with me. Skip forward to summer 2022, i was front row at Rammstein in Coventry, when the band hit the stage, i felt like i could breathe for the first time since losing my Dad... surrounded by thousands of likeminded people all screaming along to our favourite band. They saved my life more times than any other band. Music is so so powerful.

Love that you can rock out to Rammstein. They’re definitely not for everyone but they are so good especially live. I got to see them live in the US a few years ago and they put on a complete production and show. They played nonstop for 4 hours its was insane.

Great reaction. I'm a fan since '97. The song that got me was "Engel"- Angel. It was such a unique sound. And they surprise and fascinate me to this day. Btw same lineup from the beginning. What fascinates me are the lyrics (most, not all song). A lot of them have double meaning. Which is a result where all bandmembers grew up, in the GDR. Most lyrics are written in a poetry style and a some are quite heavy subjects, taboos in western societies. They took a lot of heat for that. Society doesn't want to be bothered with taboos. Curious to see, what you think about songs like "Wiener Blut"- Viennese blood (Josef Fritzl), 'Ich tu dir weh"- I hurt you or "Mein Teil- my part"(Armin Meiwes). As well as lighter songs like "Seemann- Seaman" or "Frühling in Paris- spring in Paris", "Zeit-time". Looking forward to see more reactions from you to Rammstein. With love from Germany ❤🤘🏻

The best way to get into Rammstein, is their live performances, dont get me wrong some of their music is absolute master class, but when you combine that with their stage show, chefs kiss. The funny thing is Du Hasst, live is probably their most tame live performance, aside from maybe Engel. Ooh and for a reccomendation Engel, Rammstein, live version A quick side note, Till Lindeman, is probably one of the most interesting frontmen out there. He is not just the lead vocalist, but also the bands lead pyrotechnician. Beyond that, he is an artist, pure and simple, if you should choose to watch Engel, pay close attention to his persona on stage, even if you shut off the music and just watched the video of his performance i think you might fully understand what he ks trying to convey, it is a bit haunting, and it doesnt end when the song ends, even the way that he exits the stage fewls like he is still very much in character.

Oh Rammstein has one of the greatest pyro shows ever, in their last iteration a couple of years ago I went to the largest version of it they ever made, in Mexico City, it was a thing of amazement, they spent over a million dollars per night in pyro effects and you could feel the heat all around, they had about 8 pyro towers across a racing stadium and the field, I'll never forget that night

I think it's both. It's a tense relationship, although worse, she sounds coercive. She's proposed, possibly several times, but he's not consented to marriage. Then it comes to a head. She might have literally told him to get ready for a friend's wedding, or bullied him, who knows, but now he's at his own wedding that he's never given true consent to. And he feels she wants to have him, but realises it's actually more like she hates him, finds the courage to shout 'No' at the top of his voice to the vows, and walks away. Free :)

I do understand people choosing money when choosing a career but you will get bored one day. Most of my cousins are rich due to working in the medical & engineer field. They will always complain about their job. Money does make people happy but not all the time in certain scenarios. It's okay to switch careers in your lifetime. For me, I will say choose interest & challenge over money when I chose my current career that I'm attending grad school for the fall. You aren't alone in this journey. Indecision paralysis is so hard and I totally feel this huge empathy towards you when you say that wanting to take in something new but worrying about the outcome creates this cycle of being stuck, It’s so incredibly hard to be anxious and fearful of the outcome. It took me a very long time to finally take that jump into a new career and now that I’m here I have people on all sides saying “why don’t you go further”. And it’s hard to explain just how hard it was to get to this point. At first this bothered me a bit, but now I’m so proud of myself. Maybe it’s because of this high pressure we put on ourselves to get it right or else. The flip side is feeling regret when missing the opportunities that come. It’s like we can’t allow ourselves failure as an option so the safest bet is to sit still, I just want to hopefully encourage you that if you take this step and it doesn’t go exactly according to the way you planned, then this is not a let down or a failure. This was just an alternate option. And I know how hard it is to keep reminding yourself of that. You will still deserve to be proud of yourself no matter the outcome, but in saying that, I’m going to keep it positive and say that you may very well surprise yourself and succeed wildly! Just know the opposite of “success” isn’t instan “failure”. You are allowed to change the narrative of how you and others talk about your journey. “I tried this new thing and gained a new experience. It didn’t turn out the way it was originally planned, but look what i achieved”. We are rooting for you all the way.

It's hard to let ourselves seize new opportunities or walk on new pathways without projecting how things could be and worrying about the future. Somehow, anticipation helps experiencing a sense of control while facing the unknown. But then the sirens of self-doubt and anxiety can become so overwhelming as a result. I hope you will lean towards giving yourself a chance to experience something that your heart desires regarding your career choices. Even if the results end up to be unsatisfying, you will have lived something that will contribute to your personal growth. Even the paths that we take and seem to lead to nowhere, actually inform us that this path was not for us, or that it wasn't the right rime yet. Rammstein performances are truly one-of-a-kind. I remember standing on the opposite (long) side of a hockey rink and still being hit by those heatwaves from the pyrotechnics. Epic. I did study German for a few years in school, so it was always a good challenge to piece together the lyrics, which I found challenging because of allegories, likeness or so on. Sometimes it was brutally clear. You should follow this up with 'Tier' ( Animal ). You are in for a "interesting" time. Or perhaps "Wollt ihr das Bett in Flammen sehen?". Do dig in, they do explore human nature in their early work.

Rammstein's gigs are another level... but "du hast" is ambiguous. They tease at first saying "du, du hast mich", which could be translated as "you, you have me" or "you have [insert another verb here] me", and they go on to say "du hast mich gefragt und ich hab 'nichts' gesagt', which means "you have [asked - the verb inserted here] me and I said 'no'". And then, they go on about not wanting to spend their lives together with someone ahahaha If there are any Germans around to correct me, I will be greatful, cause I am Brazilian hahahaha German is my favorite language ever and the one I can speak the least :P

Also, not to get you 'biased', but Rammstein's songs are all full power critiques, so... "Rosenrot" is about abusive relationships, "Ich will" is about the never-ending search for success and how people act when they get there, "Stirb nicht for me - Don't die before I do", personally feels like the lengths to which loneliness could take you, "Sonne" sounds like drug addiction, "Amerika" is an obvious ironically criticism-loaded song... even "Das Modell", which they recorded over Kraftwerk's hit song for "Domino"'s soundtrack is heavy af... lots of material if you wanna go down international songs

I don’t know how your song request system works but I just want to say “The Downward Spiral” album would be perfect for a video at some point if you’re looking for recommendations. I don’t know if you do albums or only individual songs, but its a chronological story with a lot of things that would fit with this channel and speaking about mental health.

I saw Rammstein back in 1998 when they were touring America. I believe for the first time for this album. It was an eclectic mishmash of artists but I went there specifically for Rammstein who if memory serves me correctly, played their set right before the headliners Korn. That one song does not do them Justice in person. They are pyromaniacs or at least they were at the time from wearing a fire retardant trench coat while singing a ballad to actually pulling out a flamethrower and waving it out over the crowd and all the other pyrotechnics that you see in this video. In 98 I was 22 and it was surreal seeing a band do this kind of stuff. I still remember the heat coming off of the stage curling my lashes LOL. And seeing the size of this crowd in Paris dwarfing the size of my stadium in my hometown probably by 10 or 20 times. The size was incredible but the audience was no less engaged There have always been a couple songs on each album that have raised an eyebrow or created some sort of controversy or dialogue. I love your channel. Love how you break down the songs with an authenticity, professionalism and empathy. Although this is a Rammstein video, I cannot wait to see you continue to go down the rabbit hole of Ren 🤘🥰 keep up the great work!

Amazing concert. Also something to think about. A German group who sings in mostly German doing concerts in the USA and selling out stadiums. I saw them at the alamo dome on the same tour as the video, it was amazing.

The song is illustrating that there's no such thing as everlasting love, and that all love/relationships are destined to deteriorate and die eventually. The lyrics are from the perspective of an ex-lover who looks back on the relationship and asks the other person whether they would still be so faithful and devoted to their partner if they were still together. The refrain poses the question: "Will you stay with me until death do us part; will you remain faithful to me all the days of our lives?" The "yes no" essentially says that the answer is "no", suggesting that the partner is not as faithful and loyal as they once claimed. The song is a reflection on relationships that ultimately can't hold up, and the feeling of disappointment in love that comes from this realisation.

I think where the confusion comes in with the translation is when they released an English version of this song and changed the lyrics to “you hate” instead of “you have.” I know you have and you hate sound practically identical in German.
