Run the Jewels are a difficult one because their music doesn't lend themselves well to singles. Their second and third albums (this being from their 3rd) are structured in way that maintains that flow and energy throughout so pulling out a single track takes away from the experience. Definitely worth checking them out. The black guy is Killer Mike from Atlanta. Did some stuff with Outkast back in the day and is a bit of an underground legend. The white guy is El-P whose a bit of an NY legend and has been around on that scene since the 90s. He's also the producer of this track (and most of their albums). If you enjoyed the production, then RtJ's 3 albums and Killer Mike's 'R.A.P. Music' are worth checking out!

I love rap without hooks and corny shit so run the jewels is perfect. El-p is such a dope producer and lyricist going back to company flow days. Killer Mike has been dope forever. RTJ is killer
@sharptakes16622 жыл бұрын
agree, the fun part of rap is trying to digest the assault of poetry delivered at you, picking apart the lyrics for days afterwards, then tryna rap em yourself lol. when its all just hooks and stuff, there's a place for that, but it isn't nearly as meaningful.
@mollyjaneanderson91444 жыл бұрын
the more you listen to them, the more you hear, the more you love them. they're just so fast and so solid and so consistent.

There are a LOT of nods to how they're being set up here, but my favorite is the "Blind" man looking down to visually check the hand symbol he's supposed to make from his card.

Please react to more of thier music! They go against the grain theyre very unconventional hip hop thats why this one song wasnt formatted traditionally. But these guys are KILLING the game right now. The white guy (El P) does all the production for the group and hes AMAZING at what he does and the big guy (killer mike) is a BEAST lyricist along w el p they play off eachother so well. Please do move vids on them and thier 3 Run The Jewels albums!!!

I don't get what exactly you didn't like? That there wasn't a chorus? The beat is insane, delivery is great, them going back and forth spitting hard and funny bars is amazing.. you'll have to listen to them a few more times I guess, they are one of the most unique rappers today

MY caveat: I have just finished a glass of wine... Dude, I agree. I have been watching all the metal heads react to this song on youtube lately, and I think their white guy bias is showing. They just don't get it, and it's a "missed opportunity."
@dfeliz834 жыл бұрын
Hes a metal guy. The fact that he can lean that much into it says tons about their music. Read between the lines. But this music is about message, dope beats and rhymes. there is always a history, or moral lesson to be taken from the tracks. These guys spit the truth in an aggressive and fun way. They also get real REAL when its warranted

RTJ is layered. Its like Tool or watching the Big Lebowski, every tinge you watch you find something new. For instance of you check out the highlighted rhyme lyrics vid of this you'll see how crazy their timing and message go together. Check out Angel Duster, that's got a hook... also my fav

3:00 - I love the little detail of the "blind guy" looking at the card what gesture he's supposed to show. 3:40 - that part is insane, those are actual real prisoner numbers in the US. At this point US has the most prisoners per capita, fucking ruthless dictators can be envious of those numbers.

Check out "CZARFACE" with Inspecta Deck from the Wu Tang and Esoteric, Esoteric is a white dude from Boston along with 7L his DJ... El-P is one of the dopest producers on the planet. Killer Mike & El-P are both beasts on the mic. What's not to love? Check the meter, count the rhymes: Every new record's my dick in a box / We here the goons, eat them rulers a lot / You're getting used to me doing no wrong / I don't play chicken, you prick, I'm a fox / You wanna kick it, I'll give you the rock / You kiss the wood chipper blade if you bark / I'm fuckin magic - in fact, I'm a warlock, can talk / I got a unicorn horn for a (stop!)

Video production wise I love that it's all like...you don't have weird cuts where they aren't doing something different from the last camera cut if that makes sense. As far as the song itself goes, I mean not everything needs to be hooky just sometimes ya gotta have a message but it's hard when every album is 100% full of bangers.
@kyleleehufnagel5 жыл бұрын
Killer Mike - “Reagan” is a much better lyrical message song. This is more of a playful into to their music. Run the Jewels - “Christmas Fuckin Miracle” is a very good message song as well

My dude? U just learned a very important fact/lesson about Hip Hop...MOST of the dopest tracks in Rap Music do not have hooks. It’s ALL about the lyrics...💯 Appreciate u my guy!❤️ Btw, if u like dope, well produced videos...u gotta peek “Vossi Bop” by Stormzy & “Close Your Eyes” by Run the Jewels. Be well, brotha. The video is loaded with political messages... It takes more than a few run thru of any of their songs to get a true grip of what their lyrics mean... El-P is one of the greatest music producers of all time... He has morals and standards that do not exist anywhere else within the industry imo... Close your eyes and count (to fuck), is also an absolute banger with a serious message too...
