When setting a gate post I was taught to drop an unopened sack of concrete in the bottom and then set the post on it and pour. Never had one settle since.

So a big time saver for us when doing a roof was to make sure we were good and square and then before we unpacked the roof panels we would line them all up with a piece of wood and a hammer, then mark the top sheet for our screw pattern and drill each spot with a 1/8th bit. Then we didn't have to pop chalk or measure in place once the panels were put up we just run the screws in the little hole and you are good to go.

I've seen guys cut a upward facing "C" on the bottom of post and bend it outward. That allows some concrete to enter the inside of the post as well as adhere to the concrete better. Thanks for sharing, learning lots myself.

I dont blame you on the post sagging. I couldnt handle that either. Still looks great though but id have to go back and fix it like you. Happy New Year!❤🎉

Weld a piece of plate on the bottom of your post and it will keep it from sinking on you. Also nice meeting you the other day!

We run 8” for roofs in SW Ar. 20’ span. Another route on the posts slipping in the concrete is to pop a couple holes in the bottom of the post. Or my personal favorite is to weld on a plate in the bottom. I usually go double the post width for plate size.

It does look really good. That's a good tip about putting rebar on the posts. Thanks!

I used to weld a horseshoe or rebar on the bottom of a post, what I do now is cut a slot into the post bottom and pull it out towards the upside and allow the cement to fill the post. I also don't dry set anything structural, fence posts doesnt really matter but post like this, I either fill from the top with concrete, or allow the bottom to fill up. The little tags at the bottom adds a little more strength and footing, if you will.

The next time you do a metal roof Mr. Ross. Punch holes with a AWL. Then drive your screws all in a nice row.

Been building for 15+ years. What we do on these is I cut pieces of 6"x3/8" flat metal into 6x6 and weld 3-5' of 2 7/8 pipe to it, also cut my triangles out of the 2 7/8" so concrete will lock it in. I then layout the the measurements drill my holes and place my plates and pipe in the holes. I've never had one move this way. I shoot them with a transit that day, then when I come back I have all my measurements for cuts and we cut the 4x4 or I-beam for each plate elevation and weld it up. We can do a job like this in less than 2 days. Sure everybody has their own ways but this is what works for me and is the most economical and fastest way of doing it for me

What I’ve done to prevent posts from sinking just torch a hole on your post to let the concrete in and feed a piece of rebar through the hole. It works really good

Austin you put the screws in the water line on the roof lol. The ribs are where the screws go lol. Keep trying

Probably done as much roof as Austin, but instructions say use the flats in a specific pattern. That is why I don't like tin roofs. Thousand holes to leak through. The old ribbed barn roofs panels, we put nails in the peaks.

It sure seems as though your name is getting known. It must be if some oldboy has a job, but doesn't know who to get, he asks his church buddy, who tells him to call that AROSS cat. He does good work. Keep moving forwsrd Austin. 😀
