@@kl8455 F&J's former manager, Janie Hoffman really screwed up opportunities for the band. Jason Newsted tried to get his former band to open for Metallica during the black album tour. The reason it never happened is because Janie had an issue with Metallica's manager and told him off. F&J was blackballed from ever getting the offer to tour with Metallica again. This is just one (a major one at that) of many times Janie blew great opportunities for F&J because she let her personal feelings get in the way of professional business. I was friends with Ed Carlson, that is why I am aware of this. I told him that it were my band, I would have her fired. Unfortunately, F&J did not have a leader, per se. I highly doubt if all of this went right that they would have as big as Metallica, however, I am certain they would have been much more successful.

When the Storm Comes Down was the first time I saw them live. did have Eric AK stand by my best friend and I in the crowd watching Mercyful Fate after he was finished with their set.

On the original vinyl, there was no audio break between the songs, so the album starts with the world as we know it ending in Beyond the Black. There's this post-apocalyptic wind that blows and then the drum triplets of Metal Church rise out of the wind. Serious eargasm at 17 years old!

The entire album is an underground classic, not a bad song on it. The "ballad" Gods of Wrath (About the myth of Prometheus) is incredible, I dare you to not bang your head during the chorus, so damn heavy! The album was originally released independently by the band but Lars Ulrich was a huge fan and got them signed to Elektra who re-released the album.

Honestly have trouble calling them underground. My first experience with the band was them getting radio play years ago. Lesser known yeah, but any band that can get any form of radio play even on rock radio immediately puts you far above the popularity most metal bands will ever get

As a composer, I would say writing a good song is a skill of itself. If you can write effective songs, that is indeed a strong skillset in music regardless of how technical it is! Also, Kirk Arrington's infectious grooves are INDEED underrated! I once knew a drummer who could play them and it's more technical than you'd think!

Great reaction, guys! Please check out "No Place for Disgrace" by the band Flotsam and Jetsam! It's the title track from their 2nd album released in 1988, and it's about Japanese Samurai warriors. Jason Newsted formed this band before joining Metallica in 1986 after Cliff Burton (bassist) died in a bus accident. Flotsam and Jetsam are still going strong. They released their 14th album last June. Thanks!

What albums did Metal Church have after the debut album from 1985? A BUNCH. They have been releasing albums ever since. They had a brief hiatus in the 90s during the Grunge period, but came right back in the late 90s, and have been releasing albums throughout the new Millenium. However, they might be done now as their returning vocalist killed himself around the same time Dusty Hill from ZZ Top died. But here's a list of Metal Church's discography: Metal Church (1984) - David Wayne on vox The Dark (1986) - David Wayne on vox Blessing in Disguise (1989) - Mike Howe on vox The Human Factor (1991) - Mike Howe on vox Hanging in the Balance (1993) - Mike Howe on vox Masterpiece (1999) - David Wayne on vox The Weight of the World (2004) - Ronnie Munroe on vox A Light in the Dark (2006) - Ronnie Munroe on vox This Present Wasteland (2008) - Ronnie Munroe on vox Generation Nothing (2013) - Ronnie Munroe on vox XI (2016) - Mike Howe on vox Damned If You Do (2018) - Mike Howe on vox From the Vault (2020) - Mike Howe on vox So if you notice there, their first two singers came back later on, Wayne in 1999 for one album, who then later died of natural causes, and then Mike Howe who left during the 90s mess, but then was called back when Munroe left after the 2013 album. However, like I said, Mike committed suicide during the Pandemic. Not sure we ever got the motivation, but it really sucked to hear, because everything seemed to be looking up for him and band after his return to the band in 2016 after 22 year break. Long time fans of Metal Church always loved Mike's haunting vocal style, especially on Blessing in Disguise in 1989. Of course, OG fans preferred Wayne's vocals, but I didn't come onto the band until after Mike started with them for Blessing. But anyway, those are all of Metal Church's albums. And what's cool about that From the Vault album is that they did a few re-records of a couple old Mike Howe songs from Blessing. "Fake Healer" and "Badlands." Both classic songs from that 1989 album redone within the last few years. Fake Healer is a classic that's about a doctor/surgeon who's only in the profession for the money, and is overly worried about malpractice suits.

In the late 80s, I used to know a guy who worked at a club where Metal Church was playing, and he got me in for free but I had to help them set up the club before the show (Moving tables and chairs into storage etc.). Got to see Metal Church soundcheck and a little later one of the guitarists walked in and asked if there was any fast food restaurants nearby. I said there was a Burger King around the corner. He asked if you could walk there. I told him you had to cross a busy intersection. He asked if I had a car. The thing next thing I know, I've got 3 members of Metal Church in my car and I'm taking them to BK. When they got in, I was listening to this album. The drummer said "Come on! Don't you have anything else to listen to?" lol
