I met Mike back in 89 when metal church was playing in my city at a smaller venue. I was waiting to getting a beer and he came from the back to grab a beer himself. I asked him for his autograph but I didn't have a pen. He went and got a pen from backstage, came back and signed a piece of paper for me. Absolute awesome guy. R.I.P Mike.

Such a kind man. I’m so sorry he was hurting to the point of needing to leave us. Sadly, I get it, I empathize, and understand. If you suffer from depression, my heart is with you. Those who don’t have depression cannot understand. Those who prescribe meds don’t even understand, but they generally are sincere in their attempts to help. I know that most people have good intentions. But I’m telling ya, depression is gnarly. Just wishing so much. Love to everyone.

My wife and I first Mike (and the rest of the band) when they toured with Megadeth a few years ago. After an impromptu meet and greet between bands we went back to our seats. Who do we see but Mike walking around the arena. As he came down the aisle I spotted him, he remembered me and came right over, pictures, the works. Such an amazing guy and talent. We met him once after that after Stet joined and they toured with Doro. The news hit us very hard. I still have my Mike Howe for President sticker on my Challenger R/T where it will remain forever.

Depression is a serious mental health problem, the worst part is that people who don't have it say shit like "Get over it", if that's you, just walk away, you're not helping. RIP Mike. I had severe depression, attempted suicide and wound up in a hospital for many months in the 90s, listened to a lot of music, Metal Church's Badlands off Blessing In Disguise is my favourite MC song, very inspiring about battling depression, "I know these are the Badlands, somehow I'll find my way". Depression never really goes away and I still go through periods of it for no reason, music is my therapy and weed is my medication, it works for me.

Just double checked to be sure and yeah, Mike Howe co-wrote Badlands. Metal Church, particularly Badlands got me through that stay in the hospital. Ironically so did Suicidal Tendencies, How Will I Laugh Tomorrow... is a criminally under-rated album.

I know how amateur psychologists can be. My father was killed in 2021, and there's been numerous times I've stated how much better it would have been if I was killed in my father's place. With two exceptions, everyone always tells me "don't say that." (As if they were my sole arbiter and I set out to feel bad.) I'm glad that you have ways of mitigating your depression. I still remember the altered hunger and sleep patterns, and it makes me ill.

I saw Mike at the Waters Club in San Pedro, Ca when he was in Heretic. He was phenomenal and clearly destined for big things. Everyone was excited because a couple of the Metal Church guys were there. No one knew they were looking to steal Mike. And they did. He left Heretic and joined Metal Church, and Dave Wayne left Metal Church and hooked up with the guys from Heretic and became Reverend (world won't miss you is a fantastic album). A trade that made two great bands. Now, both Dave and Mike are gone. So sad.

I've been getting back into Metal Church pretty hard for the last six months watching interviews and listening to the music again. I haven't taken a celebrity's passing this hard since George Carlin passed away in 2008. God bless Mike and god bless Metal Church. His wife didn't care much, he put his career on hold for years to follow her around country, supporting her with her career!! Don't think she was happy him rejoining Metal Church in 2015, she just walked out on him and they consequently divorced, that definitely didn't help him😔 He was a lovely man, so devastating he is no longer here. Rest in Peace Mike🙏🙏 I pray that I won't carry all the pain to the end , which sadly he did🙏🙏😔😔❤️❤️❤️

Mike Howe will always be one the BEST voices in Metal. Last month I finally managed to find ''Damn if you do'' on vinyl and little did I know about his health issues; I saw Mike and the band live at Vagos Metal Fest, Portugal, on August 12th 2017, a day to remember in full Metal glory. On stage, Howe made it clear why he had been chosen to replace ''Reverend'' Wayne, regardless of their different vocal styles. Metal is poorer now, but Metal Revolution is always underway. We shall remember him. RIP

It takes a strong person to do suicide. People always say it's a cowards way out but it takes balls to kill yourself not knowing what will greet you on the other side. I tried it once with a belt. It broke though and I never attempted it again, long ago. Somehow a thick leather belt with double closers snapped and I fell to the ground I figured it was a sign. I have a new belt now. The silver lining I guess.

Last time I seen Metal Church was back in 2017. I ran into Mike on the floor and I said “hey, how’s it going, omg 😀” and he said, “omg” and gave me one of the longest, tightest hugs I’ve ever got. It was like he knew there are people out there that just needed that kind of love. He was so sweet. RIP sweet angel. You are missed and never will be forgotten. 😘😘🤘🤘🥲

This is so sad for me. I wasn't a big Metal Church fan back in the day since all I had heard was from MTV. A friend of mine turned me on to their first few albums when we were deployed to the Gulf war and I heard the real Mike Howe, Anthem of the Estranged, In Harms way, etc... His voice and the band's lyrics got me through that horrible time. When he reunited with the band and I heard his voice which was still awesome I loved it and hoped to see them on tour. Unfortunately I never had the opportunity. I only wish I could have been there for him, like he was there for me.RIP Mike, you were truly a gift from God.

Sadly some times you don't even realize that your suffering from depression. It can be a very sneaky condition. Mild depression can manifest itself in ways that you don't consider. If not recognized it can expand and totally overtake someone.

As someone who has used various antidepressants in the past, it's a bit idiotic for the band to blame them for his suicide, unless they have conclusive information. This of course doesn't preclude someone from abusing or misusing them by mixing them with alcohol or other contraindicated drugs. His suicide and antidepressants probably have a more likely cause in common, depression. Antidepressants can help mitigate the effects of depression, but they're not a cure all. Not all antidepressants are a good fit and it can take a lot of trial and error to figure one that works effectively. Myself, I've been off of them for sometime, and am going to experiment with dabbing as an alternative (so I'm not some stooge for pharmaceuticals, but neither am I some Gwyneth Paltrow/David Avocado Goop style anti-science alarmist).

This is April 2202 and I am just now finding out about Mike’s passing! I am glad to read many nice words and praise about him being a nice and genuine person. I had the Pleasure of meeting him at the Roxy in Hollywood right when he got the gig to play with Metal Church! I was a fan when he was with “Snair” and later with Heretic. He was so cool and easy to talk to and he is already greatly missed. Bless his boys and family and may he Rest In Peace.

The Human Factor was the thrashiest album I ever heard. Badlands and In Mourning are amazing songs. I saw this tour in the Summit in Houston back in like 91' or something. Metal Church just blew me away. RIP Mike. 💜☺🙏👍

I just found out....OMG...feels like being hit in the gutt by a young Mike Tyson. I feel like this just knocked the wind outa me. I never knew Mike Howe but I darn sure loved his voice and his music. @@RogueBoyScout That's not entirely accurate. I work at a substance abuse treatment facility and most of our clients are state funded. 26k worth of treatment. And that is 70-80% of our clients. Now Mike may have not had a substance use problem but it still makes your statement inaccurate. Btw, ask Canada how happy they are with their Healthcare system. They will tell you it's trash. And they have only a fraction of out population. People act like there is an easy fix. There isn't. That is not to say improvements couldn't be made.
