What a sad story. I agree, what a disgrace. This place needs some love. What a shame. OMG!! They found the coffin and didn't try to figure it out. How sad. Nice story👍🏻👍🏻30

i wonder if the zinc was thought to 'hold in' the illness/contagious TB (then, known as consumption) 😢😷 Thank you for finding her story for us🙏

Metal coffins were used when you had to travel with the body. You could seal the body in.

I used to live in New Mexico, Las Cruces to be exact. I did a lot of "work" volunteering to take photos of headstones for friends and relatives of the deceased. I have photographed many headstones in New Mexico and I can confirm...way too many old cemeteries are left unkept. I normally focus my attention on the older headstones, simply because I want to document their existence before mother nature and the elements have time to break them down into untraceable pieces. So many just have "chips" of what was once a headstone. I have even encountered one instance in Las Cruces where the family of their loved one set the deceased's ashes (in an urn) on a fence post and left it there and drove off. Not sure what to believe. Did they not have enough money to have the urn interned or did they simply drive off and forgot to finish the task at hand. We will never know. This is another reason I plan to be cremated and will request my children to disburse my ash remains in whatever place they find calm and peace...or where I found the same.

I really do love this video, but I am still wondering who the young woman and boy are???? They appear in the video at .57 until 1:14 supposedly with Kate and her baby George or was the old photo just a representation of Kate and little George? Also, what really happened to John after Kate passed away? Fortunately, there are a lot of online articles that I have just started reading which give an account of John and Kate Kingsbury. Some of the online articles were originally found in El Palacio (The Magazine of the Museum of New Mexico). The first one I just started is called "A Beautiful Death on the Santa Fe Trail" written by Frances Levine PhD in 2020., and Frances Levine is president of the Missouri Historical Society, St. Louis, and the former director of the New Mexico History Museum and the Palace of the Governors. The next one I will be reading is "Kate's Final Journey" by Alysia L. Abbott PhD ( a Southwestern archaeologist for over 35 years, and she has been researching Santa Fe’s Historic burial grounds for a decade. She thanks the many archaeologists and historians, in particular Cordelia T. Snow, who have for years been piecing together the locations and histories of Santa Fe’s lost dead.), written in 2020 and originally accompanied Frances Levine's "A Beautiful Death on the Santa Fe Trail". Alysia L. Abbott also has another article written in 2021 called "A Hidden History of the Dead " -(The lost Historic graveyards of Santa Fe are underfoot, if not top of mind.) Finally,, as I continued looking and scrolling down, there were several pages of articles about John and Kate Kingsbury. So, I will be busy reading, and perhaps I may find answers to some of my questions. I may also see if KZbin has more recent videos.

The odd fellows you find quite a bit in the u.s.a Southwest. They were very big group in the late 1800s. There's still some of their meeting halls left. And they are still active
