We make another visit to the site of an early 20th Century Canecutter's Social Club -- widely known as an illegal "Casino". The original building was constructed in the late 19th Century for the large numbers of migrant canecutters employed on the North Queensland canefields. During one wild New Year's bash it burnt down early on the morning of January 1st, 1928 -- but was quickly rebuilt and continued to operate as "The Casino"! Happy Hunting everyone! Excellent video NQ! I always look forward to your trips to the ol' casino. Such beautiful surroundings and always good finds. Nice going on that silver. No trains this time though. Just got another foot of snow last night. At this rate the ground might thaw out sometime around June. I'm watching too much KZbin lately. :)

Warren & Colleen - well done on this visit to a favourite spot. Proves that a site can hold more finds - if you keep looking and as conditions change over time. The coin grading system has been updated to include "Ultra-Cactus" - good one. Yes - great finds are often near the start of the hunt..where the car is parked. Lovely Silver's and that watche was a good find too. Cheers GL & HD Ian

Thanks for your comment Iroc - we are looking forward to this year's cane harvest when the field will be deeply tilled. The 'great finds near the car' theory seems to hold. Hence I would never recommend catching public transport to a site as you would be left without a point of reference. Happy Fossicking mate! Warren.

I've found a few unopened rivets and copper burrs here. It all is plantation workshop scraps, c1878-1920. Dated coins are 1872 worn Quarter, 1883 and 98 Nickels and a Pantheon Saloon token "Good for one draught beer" . No "S" counterstamp post 1900 when Jim Dodd died and his son in law took over. That was in town, on Nuuanu Ave.

Warren your videos are always great to see. Besides all those nice finds, I must agree with you when you say that fields producing a lot of finds keep on producing items even if you searched them many times before. I was wondering, to what depth can you Garett AT Pro go ? I know its hard to evaluate, but what do you think ? Thanks for sharing,
@NQExplorers
@NQExplorers 10 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment Jerome - we find that the AT Pro actually goes very deep even on small conductive targets (such as the horse brass studs). We regularly dig these on a strong repetitive signal with a solid target ID at 8 inches - depending on soil moisture conditions and other factors of course. No problem hitting coins well below 8 inches with that stock DD coil. Happy Hunting mate! Warren.

Hi there Warren. Love watching your videos on gold detecting. I bought my first Gold detector when I was about 16, it was a Garrett ADS Deepseeker . Sadly I never had much time to use it but I always loved the idea of finding gold with it. Two years after I purchased it I sold it on account of needing the extra money at that time. 35 years later I just acquired my second Garrett detector, model AT Gold and Pro pointer, which I acquired from True Blue Camping & Canvas at 4 O'Loughlin street North Mackay Qld. Eventually I'd like to get my hands on a ATX model and go full time detecting but i figured that I better start out slowly and learn with a basic detector until I gather some skill. Would love the opportunity to some time to tap into your wealth of knowledge to learn a few tricks of your trade. Do you conduct classes on prospecting at all? cheers Kelvin

G'day Kelvin - congratulations on the new detector mate. We are working on conducting Garrett Training days around the dealerships & have discussed this with Kerry at True Blue & think it is a great idea. Keep an eye on our Facebook page -,plus you can easily contact us there with any questions. Always happy to help out so don't hesitate if you need any tips or tricks in the meantime. Cheers mate. Hey, i have saved up enough to buy a land roverdefender which is what u guys have, Should i put my profits into a Defender and I am a kinda tall person around 6.2 ft, is there enough leg room in the defender? Thanks!
@NQExplorers
@NQExplorers 10 жыл бұрын
G'day Harry, thanks for contacting us - yes you are a big bloke at 6'2". You may find that you can't set the driver's seat far enough back - but this problem is common so there is an aftermarket set of seat slides that you can replace the originals with so that the seat can go much further back. You will find it quite OK then. Hope you get a Defender, second to none off road, and back to basics motoring! We love ours. Good luck mate. Warren.

@NQExplorers
@NQExplorers 9 жыл бұрын
Nonyo Bidness Thanks for your comment Nonyo, although perhaps you are not familiar with Australian recovery methods. That is a Prospecting Pick, not a pickaxe. It is used for prospecting for gold nuggets in dry, hard Australian soils. Target recovery with a Prospecting pick is a learned technique and we don't damage any targets we recover (particularly gold nuggets). It is a target recovery method we have used for over 30 years of detecting. We hope you enjoyed our video mate - Happy Fossicking! Warren.
