Looked like obsidian, glass like rock formed by volcanoes, plains Indians went into Yellowstone Park, gathered obsidian and chipped arrowheads, spear points and religious items, beautiful stuff. I grew up 50 miles away from Yellowstone. History lesson.

Gidday chris, its in the low to mid 30,s but its the bush fires adding to the heat, worst we have ever had, we could do with some of your snow, anyway it wont last for long and then its detecting time, 2019 with the new coil l will hunt out another beauty and film it, like you say, its a buzz, cheers Russell.

Love your vidoes, I'm heading to Australia for a year at the end of Jan. Someone let me know you drive a sprinter. How does it treat you in the bush? I'm planning on getting a sprinter and am wondering if its going to be able to take it. I was hoping to put a diff lock on and some all terrain tyres at the very least. Any info would be wonderful, I'm hoping to spend some months in the bush prospecting.
@TheNuggetMagnet5 жыл бұрын
Gidday Casey, real glad you enjoy the video,s, and hope your trip is a success, l actually drive an IVECO and its 4WD, Not sure the sprinter is 4WD, anyway as long as its not a long wheel base you should be able to access most places You will come across creeks and washouts that will snag a long wheel base, Feb and March are very hot months so do a little research on the weather patterns in the area you wish to prospect, and never forget your GPS unit, it can all look the same out there, thanks again for watching ,cheers NM

How does it work over there with regards to a lease ? Do you have to buy one to detect, or can you just go bush and search ? Cheers NM 👍🏻
@TheNuggetMagnet5 жыл бұрын
Gidday mate, first you need a "miners right" $25AUD for life, cheap as, then visit the "DMP" Website here in West Oz to download the Tengraph system to see where you can legally detect, it is mainly bush out there, however it is almost all under lease so care must be taken to know exactly where you are out there, stay safe and NEVER forget your GPS, cheers NM.

@@TheNuggetMagnet - It looks like the obsidian that can be found at Glass Butte in Central Oregon. A side note, during the Paiute/Snake(Shoshoni) War, the Oregon Militia and the US Army built an outpost there to guard against the natives obtaining this material. It was considered by the military as a vital ammunition storage and manufacturing site. The surrounding tribes would trade furs, grain, gourd or fresh meat to the tribe that had possession of the butte. On my brothers property we would go looking for arrow heads and other artifacts. To find the broken arrowheads, we would sit on the shore of the ancient dry lake, where the village’s knapper’s lodge circle was. The one surrounded by the most flakes, my brother would sit in the middle of the flakes then and throw one of his broken arrowheads, as if he were frustrated for breaking one. Where it landed we would search for more the, search usually turned up more broken ones. On my property I found what is commonly called a “bird arrowhead,” These are small, around ½ inch (12.7mm) long, it had to have been one that was lost during a hunt for waterfowl that frequented the old lake shore, that my property is along. Some of the Glass Butte obsidian arrowheads had been found as far west as the Pacific Coast. The obsidian from Glass Butte and Black Rock Desert in the northwestern corner of Nevada was highly prized among the tribes of the Pacific Northwest region at the time.

@@TheNuggetMagnet You can never know what you will find in our high desert region of Central and Eastern Oregon. When my brother and I went hunting for carnelian agates and fossils, we carried a bag of marbles in our pouches and every time we fund some thing of interest or a large enough agate we would leave a marble behind. The day we hunted the Warner Escarpment it had rained real hard. As I shock the water off of my hat, I looked down and saw a garbanzo size white rock that a gopher had just pushed out of its tunnel. I picked it up and when I held it up the sunlight and could not believe the colors that I saw. My brother told me I had found a precious opal, it weight out at 12.5 carets (2.5gm). I showed it to an appraiser who told me they could revel a Coober Pedy opals in value. I still carry it in my medicine bag, just as I found it. If I had the appraiser value it, it would have cost me about 1/4 of its value to have it done, at the time I did not have the extra money. Need to get back over there and see if I can find another. I found a few ounces of carnelian chip, but the big find that day were the coprorlites. Especially the whole one that had a piece of what looked like a chicken leg, would ever left it must have had a bad day that day. Well this 70 y/o lady needs to run down to the market and get some groceries, Have a great time prospecting for gold, find a lot.
