I'm a family genealogist as well as detectorist. I have found many of my family members deep in the woods in similar cemeteries. I always put my hand on their grave, say a little prayer, and then say aloud, "You are not forgotten."

Glad you enjoyed your time in Louisiana. Those blobs you found could have been from civil war camps where soldiers would melt lead over a fire and fill bullet moulds. Those are pretty common outside battlefields.

I have to say I'm very proud of you for trying the alligator! I'm from Louisiana and it's amazing! By the way the trees with the weird roots are actually cypress trees. Scientists don't really understand why they do their roots like that. Some think it's for stability, others think it has to do with getting certain gasses from the air. Either way, they're one is my favorite trees 😊I'm glad you got to enjoy them. You picked a good time of year to go. But I hate to break it to you, it's not even really hot yet. LOL In August it will be 35C with 95% humidity!

Except the heat, humidity , critters, and "poisonous" weeds, you did very well on your Louisiana visit. Congratulations, Dawn !!! You had great local companions, which helps. All the best !!! See you on the next one...

It can only get better from here on out! I hope you can find Civil War artifacts, a Reale, or something from the Spanish American War that would be nice! Anything is possible! Good luck, til next time, stay safe, have some fun and dig, dig, dig...

Ooohhh! Dawn,I am very proud of you for eating the gator! I grew up in deeeep southeast Texas, where the culture is very Cajun, everyone has a French last name,Dugat,Lafore,Renaud,Labrie,Goss. Nutria,a South American rodent,is delicious, they call it “Nutrarat” in the place I grew up. Also,I tried my metal detector for the first time the other day,in my back yard! It was very confusing, actually. But I found a couple old roofing nails, from about 25 years ago,so yay the machine officially works! Be well,Dawn,I’m glad to see the nice time that you had, over here.😊
