I have been metal detecting for about 2 mos and have been watching many videos. This video has the best tips I have seen! My house was built on 1928 and my town was discovered in the 1700s. Even after adjusting all my settings to my Minelab X-Terra Pro most that I have been finding is crushed aluminum. Your video helped explained and was an eye opening to what I have been doing wrong. Thanks this will help me a lot!

Glad I watched this. Coming up on 3 years, but still a lot to learn. Thank you for these tips. I’ve seen them before but not explained as clearly. I’m swinging a Nokta Simplex + and have my first farm field permit. My very first target was a soda can. Also lots of bottle caps too. Any tips on distinguishing them from possible gold jewelry or nickels that I want to dig? Also I’ve seen plenty of phantom signal. These are ones where I get a solid hi tone both ways. Then dig the hole only to find absolutely nothing, no matter how deep I dig. Thanks, Dave. Reading, PA
@Treasure-Charger
@Treasure-Charger 5 ай бұрын
Thanks Dave! I haven't had success in distinguishing the lower tones, so I still dig many pull tabs and bottle caps. I also have got some phantom signals. If nothing good shows, I move on pretty quickly. One thing I have learned is to dig signals that are loud, repeatable both ways, and not large. Hope this helps and good luck on your hunts! PA is a good state to detect in!

Loved it thank you..still don't know what vdi is?? If you use a tech term can you simplify it for us really newbies...many thanks...
@Treasure-Charger
@Treasure-Charger 6 ай бұрын
Hello Kenny and thank you! VDI is the number that displays on the machine for a given target. For example: a nickel is 13, but a silver dime is 28. Different machines have different scales and numbers. This video uses a Minelab Equinox 800. However, the principles are the same for all machines. Hope this answers your question and have a great week!

In all my years detecting, I've seen so many people that have no clue how to swing a coil. Some hold it way too high or raise it up at the sides of each sweep. I have followed some of them beach detecting and picked up all the coins they missed. a couple years ago I picked up a silver St.Christopher and chain that one had clearly missed. They'd dug a massive hole that they hadn't even backfilled, and it was right outside the hole close to the surface.

I knew how to swing properly before I even had a detector, and I didnt even watch any KZbin videos, just from I guess what ever media I did see that had detecorist in them over the years I seen the youtuber paystreak hand a detector to people in various videos, and it seems like people either dont swing at all, think it works standing still, or the swing like a pendulum

Do you have any recommendations for medal detectors that are quality but not too expensive?
@Treasure-Charger
@Treasure-Charger 2 ай бұрын
Hello, SnapCircuits. Well, I can advise not to get one of the less than $200 models as they disappoint. I do recommend any multi-frequency machine which I believe Nokta has some at reasonably affordable prices. My friend Chris @wicked_digger is a representative and could better help with your question. His channel name is Wicked Digger. He's a great guy too. Thank you for watching and good luck with your hunts!

@Treasure-Charger
@Treasure-Charger 4 ай бұрын
Hello and thank you! I don't have any experince with the Ace. Bottle caps ring 20-21 on my Nox and quarters are 30 so it's easy for me to tell with that machine. However, there still are some cool targets that ring up the same as bottle caps too. I usually leave those for times when I return to sites 2nd or 3rd times just to make sure. I use the Garrett Carrot & how I narrow my target down is by detuning it. Let’s say it’s going off soon as you stick your pinpointer in the hole. I simply press the button once & it will detune it to that distance then every time it goes off I press the button again & so on until I’m right on the target. It’s super fast & you’ll narrow it down within 5 sec. Your way is also good, but you won’t have to turn pinpointer on & off.

@@Treasure-Charger after I sent that message I seen someone else had already mentioned it. I’ve got the TekPoint, Nokta Pulsedive & Garrett Carrot plus I’ve had the Minelab ProFind 35 & I’ll reach for the Garrett Carrot. It’s just tried & true. Simple to use & never false’s. The main thing I look for in a PP is the ease of use & I don’t want to have to look down at PP every time I want to turn on/off. I want to be able to feel button without looking. My 2nd fav is the TekPoint. It’s actually a little deeper than the Garrett Carrot & is also easy to find button without looking at it. Thanks for video.
