The loot table with locations has to be wrong. I metal detected for 30 minutes in the desert and got loot from all locations except for the river. The only other location I could be considered even close to was the beach; I was at least a full square away from any road, forest, or field. I was right next to train tracks for most of it, though, if maybe that counts as a road? Interestingly, on the two occasions that I found cans of beans, I found a batch of 5 to 7 in the same area.

Rust Labs has a 'Detectables' tab which seems more comprehensive. They're using terms like Railroads, Lakes, Swamps and Everywhere, on top of what Jfarr used in the video.

I managed to loot a jackhammer in the desert with a metal detector so the loot tables you listed aren’t comprehensive. This was a rustoria official so I don’t think it’s a server change to the loot table but maybe

Is it possible you were near a forest biome or a cluster of trees within the desert that may have counted as the deserts forest biome?

I don’t know if it had something to do with the server, but I found a large backpack in a brown crate on reddit low pop which is an official server

Is this the larger box shaped crate with the straps around it or the smaller rectangle brown crate? At the time of filming, I spawned like 100 boxes of each of these versions and found nothing. Only the military crates provided results.

I think some of the animations could do with a bit of work. The transition from the metal detector to another tool is somewhat abrupt, causing a jarring effect.

TL-DR: Backpacks are definitely worth it. Military backpack need to be nerfed b/c 28 slots is stupid. Metal detector is worthless at this point and you shouldn't waste your time with it.

So far - we have had a 100% loss rate if you crash (dying in mid air) a mini while wearing a backpack (large only, haven't confirmed with small) - be warned!
