Wow, I've just discovered this project and the overall quality is already impressive! The cutscenes look superb (like a mix between japanese manga and european comics, great style!), the in-game graphics are sharp and detailed (with some very well done explosions, this makes you want to blow things up even more haha), the sound is that of a genuine arcade game (read: dope) and the gameplay seems fast, tight and fun! It reminds me of Mercs that I loved back then on my Mega Drive =') Keep up the good work! I'm gonna follow this carefully. edit: so it's a port of a MSX game that you started to develop before? That's so cool. I've just looked at it and the MSX version looks great too (it seems to use the latest MSX model, the Turbo-R with all kinds of upgrades, right?) but this Mega Drive version shows some neat improvements such as more colorful in-game graphics (the flowers for instance which have many colors here), faster and smoother gameplay and also a smaller HUD bar. Either way, please make this a must have for MSX and Mega Drive fans! ;)

@@scamico1176 And who might you be? Lol. I'm quite the fan of Kai's projects. His games are all different genres and have neat extras. Dim X has the best red&blue style 3D I've ever seen. Most of his games require special hardware that few people have, so nice for him to get something out that is just plug and play on a popular main-stream system. He's been making games since the 90's.

@@MauricioCresti I think the MSX version is great as is. Gameplay is well balanced and the difficulty is just right. I hope the MD version does well for Kai, but I don't see myself playing it over the MSX original. If you like 3D and have a good monitor, Dim X is really impressive. The 2D youtube videos don't demonstrate the game well. Playing in 3D is mandatory to really appreciate the game. As for the troll.....lol...

Sorry, but in order to add a second player (which needs 2 sprites and 6 sprites more for his bullets) we would have to remove the maximum number of enemies and some enemy bullets and this would affect the game-play quite a lot, and since most retro-game players play alone anyway, we belive it is best to focus all the resources on a 1 player mode.

@@WeskerSega we would have to redefine the while game and the whole playability for both modes (so it doesn t get too easy with 2 players) and the game and gameplay would be affected dramatically for everyone, just for the odd chance that someone wants to play it with someone else for a while. Los felicito por el juego definitivo, está muy bueno. Pero tal vez para una ampliación o secuela pudieran tomar en consideración estos factores: El juego tiene la jugabilidad de Mercs y el ambiente y trama de Metal Gear 2D. Eso suena muy bien en teoría, porque ambas son franquicias famosas de temas bélicos; pero tiene un problema: la poca variedad de enemigos y escenarios que impresionen. En Metal Gear 2D la falta de variedad de enemigos grandes y vistosos se entiende por su jugabilidad pausada y de sigilo, de infiltración. Pero en el caso de Mercs, un arcade puro y duro, se resiente la falta de enemigo grandes y espectaculares. En Mercs te enfrentas a aviones caza Harrier, Helicópteros Hind-D, barcos lanzallamas, trenes con cañones; una gran variedad de distintos tanques y vehículos... Otro factor importante (y que fue critica en su momento para la versión de Megadrive de Mercs) es la ausencia de la opción para dos jugadores simultáneos. El grafista es bueno, los elementos se sienten integrados; pero hizo un único modelo de tanque, que aunque vistoso, no impide que se eche de menos más variedad de enemigos y escenarios. Si necesitan ayuda en el apartado grafico para una ampliación o secuela, estamos a la orden, me encanta hacer pixelart de vehículos militares reales o ficticios, como submarinos, bombarderos, etc, y no cobro por esos servicios, a lo sumo una modesta aparición en los créditos.

Do the voices have to sound scratchy though? What about that patch that Street Fighter 2 got to get smooth voice samples, does that apply here too?

We are using the best Genesis/Megadrive music and sample driver available for our needs. The lack of a better sample quality is not due to a bug, but due to the fact that we use 4 sample channels at 8Khz each, while Street Fighter uses 2 at double that rate (so it can provide twice as much quality when patched). The hardware provides a maximum quality of 33Khz for 1 sample channel, half of that for 2 and 1 foorth for 4 channels, so that is the reason why it sounds as it sounds. And we DO need 4 channels: 1 for the music drums, 1 for the player's shots, and 2 for explosions and enemy screams. Otherwise we would only have 1 sample channel for all the sound effects and another for the drums, and the quality result would be worse since all the in-game sound effects would be constantly cut when a new sample effect starts playing. That is ok for a game like Street fighter 2, but not for a game where there are constantly multiple sampled sound effects playing at the same time.

Está muy bien, como la de MSX. Lo que veo que habéis cambiado algunas cosas. El tío puede disparar sobre las barreras, y tiene rifle de francotirador, escopeta recortada, etc. Eso hace que la versión de Megadrive sea más fácil que la de MSX. También veo que por fin, el prota puede andar bajo las hojas de los árboles. Supongo que estará programada en C con el SDK que hay por ahí de Megadrive. La Megadrive va sobradísima. Muy buen trabajo.

Can you comment the differences between the MSX (V9900+OPL4+TurboR) and the megadrive release? I already noticed the sampled voices from megadrive version.

Sure. The v9990 version works on a 256 colors mode, 1 plane (the characters can't go below the tree leaves or behind any object), at 30FPS on a 8 bit computer, there is only 1 main weapon (the rifle) and the grenade launcher. The music sounds with 24 PCM channels of 44khz each. The Genesis/Megadrive version runs on a 61 colors mode, 2 planes (the characters can go below tree leaves or behind objects), at 50 or 60 fps on a 16 bit processor, there are 4 different weapons and the grenade launcher. The music sounds with 5 fm channels, 3 psg channels and one 8khz PCM channel for the drums, and three 8khz PCM channels for the sound effects. This version has 4 difficulty levels instead of 2 and many improvements (more screams, certain objects generate more explosions, not just one, more enemies on screen, bullets impact before they disappear, and many more improvements.

The Megadrive version is much improved because it is a 16 bit system with many, many more resources, and it would be a pity not to use them.

I really wanted to like this but the SFX is way louder than the BGM. The shooting drowns the soundtrack waaaaayyyy too much on the Genesis version. Hopefully there’s a way to fix that or it will be fixed at launch. The MSX version sound is far more balanced.

No problem. I balanced the sounds VS music using high quality headphones and testing it in both emulators and the real console (with headphones). Some TV sets have poor speakers (unbalanced high frequencies) and can change the end result. You might want to try it again using high quality headphones, you might change your mind. Sorry, but adding 2 players is not a possibility. We used 100% of the resources for the 1 player mode since this is how most retro-players play these games. In order to implement a second player this would require to reduce the amount of maximum enemies on screen, in some times even their size, and also the amount of enemy bullets, since the second player requires 2 sprites for itself and 6 sprites more for his own bullets. This would mean that the game would become massively easier on 2 players mode, which would require to radically modify and re-balance the game difficulty for less enemy elements, which would radically change the game playability and feeling itself (fewer but harder common enemies, and less but faster bullets). This would turn this game into something completelly different, on a direction we were not going for. This is the exact reason why Mercs has only a 1 player option. I hope you understand that our decision was to benefit the majority of players and to offer the most amazing run and gun action game possible for 1 player.

Thank you for your interest ^_^ Sorry but it will only have the Mercs, commandos, etc control scheme. The Shock Troopers control scheme would radically change the game-play and therefore the game itself, and that is not what we are doing with this production. We are going for a classical old school run-and-gun from he 80's.

The difficulty is way too soft. The enemy bullets are slow, and they do very little damage.

Which difficulty setting did you choose? there are 4 difficulty settings. Did you get the good ending? it is not easy to get it, as explained in the manual. Did you play the full game or the demo? The demo just shows the very first levels which are the easiest ones, offcourse. I am asking all this because after sending more than 700 pre-orders noone who played the full game has ever told us that the game is too easy, and much less if they tried to get the good ending, so just wandering...

@@kaimagazine8221 I just beat the demo on Hard mode, the first time I played it, without dying. And then I got to the final boss on Nuts mode, and only died one time. How many levels are there?

@@pancakebreakfast3188 the demo is 3 areas and 1 boss. The full game is 10 areas and 4 bosses, and offcourse they get harder and harder. One of the ways to get the good ending in the game is to finish the game without dying and without using codes/continue, so offcourse it is possible to finish it without dying.

Hola, la denuncia por violación de derechos de autor por anunciar y poner un enlace de descarga ilegal de nuestro juego la pusimos antes de escribir dicho mensaje solicitando la retirada del video. KZbin tarda horas o incluso dias en revisar un video. Si este señor retiró el enlace de descarga, pero youtube decidió borrar el video a posteriori, será porque en el título y descripción del video seguia haciendo mención de piratería, y además daba un enlace a un grupo de discord, insinuando que la rom se podía encontrar allí (lo cual hemos confirmado a posteriori) así que si este señor hubiese hecho las cosas bien (le solicitamos la eliminación de TODOS los enlaces de descarga) KZbin no habría tenido motivos para borrarle el video. Un saludo.
