Really good tip on the rubber gloves! In addition to the reasons you stated, I think another would be that you have some cloth to absorb your had sweat so it's more comfortable. I hate wearing rubber/latex/nitrile gloves because my hands sweat really bad.

Great video man. Love the tip about the flap disc. I’m changing how I do that now Congrats on the chop saw. You’re gonna love it. One mistake I made on mine first day. I was cutting some one inch flat bar like you were aNd didn’t get it tight enough and it came loose and got into the blade and ruined my new saw and scared the hell out of me. Yea it was quite a bad day. Now I crank my material down hard. Great tips man! Thanks for the effort!

I have had metal shavings in my eyes too! Not fun. For me, I actually didn't know I had gotten them in my eyes until the next morning. I woke up and my eye and the surrounding area around my eyes ached. My eyes were really bloodshot. I went to urgent care (not ER but no appointment necessary) and they scraped my eyes with the needle on the end of a large syringe and told me to "hold really still". 😁 They actually did an ok job with the crude tools they had, but they didn't get it all. So I ended up going to an ophthalmologist to have the rest removed. He used a tool that seemed a lot like an engraver to me. He told me not to blink so of course, I blinked and it didn't feel good. Luckily I good and seeing well. I was nervous the first time I had an MRI after that because if I had any metal left in my eyes the MRI could potentially pull it out but it was fine. One lesson that has come from all of my various injuries is that you are often better to wait for a specialist to work on you than just going to a general-purpose doctor. The specialists have all the right tools and skills to make things go much smoother with a much better end result.
@BrandonLund
@BrandonLund 3 жыл бұрын
I had to chuckle as I read your comment when you mentioned the part about the MRI...I had one a couple years later and was petrified as I laid inside the tube hoping and wondering if they got all the metal out from all my previous injuries and if they didn't what I was going to feel as it got pulled out from the magnets. Scarry stuff!

Those saws are impressive, there's usually a little compartment to catch most of the chips. The problem I had with mine was the noise, the head did not swivel for angle cuts- which means long pieces need a lot of space for angle cuts. I now have a Femi bandsaw with a swivel head and auto cut off, and its portable too. Good point about the grinding dust in the hair, be aware guys, you can negate the protection of the mask somewhat if you don't dust yourself down masked up before taking your work gear off.I stopped using old underpants for rags as I found they left skidmarks ;).
@BrandonLund
@BrandonLund 5 жыл бұрын
Your right about them being loud. You definately want hearing protection. I see what your saying about the head not rotating. I noticed that too. I'm thinking about making a swivel base that the saw sits on. I might mess with that concept a bit. I was waiting for your comment about the underwear! You never dissapoint! Lol. Have a great weekend buddy

When you square off or cut an angle on the end of a piece it is a good idea to make sure you cut off enough material that it can’t fall between the saw blade and the base. If it drops into the slot it can jam and knock off carbide teeth and those blades are expensive coated to a half inch of material. Don’t ask how I know.

@@BrandonLund distress the wood... Throw a bunch of bolts, chain and nails on the ground. Place your board on them and drive over it. Ease the edges with a wooden mallet. use a first coat of dark walnut. FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS ON THE CAN! Different grits produce different results. It is amazing what you find afterwards in the shower. I was using a wire wheel one day and found an inch long wire had gone through my clothes into my arm. They are nasty. Great video. I also use pants, socks and whatever is being thrown out. Would you recommend the cut off saw with steel blade rather than a bandsaw?
@BrandonLund
@BrandonLund 4 жыл бұрын
Its crazy the stuff that gets embedded. Check out this weeks video. I talk about this quite a bit and different tools to cut. The portable bandsaw was my #1 choice...until I got a chop saw. They each have their advantages but I really like the speed and accuracy of a chop saw.

Another great tool for your shop. I have one of those super magnets about the size of a tuna can mounted on a old broom handle it works great for pulling all the bits of metal off your clothes,face,head, it even pulls them out of your skin and works great for finding anything lost in the dirt or grass and yes it has a big bite and I have been bitten a few times. How many R P M s is your saw running at ? Thanks TANK
@BrandonLund
@BrandonLund 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks man! I'm really loving the saw. The amount of time it saves me is incredible plus I dont have to do anything special to get a straight cut like when using a portable bandsaw. It spins at 1450. It's real torquey. I like your idea with the magnet! I might have to steal that! Lol. Thanks buddy!

Making two rights and no left ??? We've all done it. Some guys do it repeatedly. I worked in a factory that made thousands of pieces backwards before someone caught the mistake. The set up guys forgot to switch the jigs during the production run and the welders just kept making left sides. OOPS !

gord johnson at least the good thing in a factory is that you can set up a special work shift to do the opposite part more times and then you don't have to waste everything you already assembled. Whereas poor Brandon had to disassemble a working part.
