I've been checking out these various hoses online: Metal Hose, Hercules Hose, Bionic Hose. They all seem to have the same problems. For the most part they are as awesome as advertised, BUT the inner hose (which has to be thin and flexible in order for the hose to have all those wonderful properties) separates ON THE INSIDE from one of the ends. It can't be fixed like a regular hose. A secondary failure is that the metal coil separates from itself sometimes, exposing the inner tube which isn't meant to last unprotected by the metal.

So far so good, but I'm only six weeks in. I was wondering about the issues you are noting as I can see those as potential weaknesses. IF, what you are saying happens in the first summer, then the economics of them may not be worth it. They are NOT inexpensive hoses. I might go back to the end of season on sale flexible green ones if I start seeing the problems you note. IF they last two years though, the ROI would likely be worth it. We will see.

I had this separation problem. The hose has a warning not to keep in under pressure. I am on my second hose (the company replaced the first one) and it separated again.

I have several of the bionic and had that issue on 1 out of 3. Not bad, but in fairness I think the metal got run over at some point. I have had them for over a year, so decent compared with the summer heat damage on the regular hoses.

I have had my 100ft. stainless hoses for 6 years. I live in Texas where the summer temps are 105-118 degrees. Both of my 100ft. hoses are outside in the hot humid elements. We got snow one year. (For 2 weeks.) My hoses remained outside. Both work fine. I am happy with no tangles and works great, ANY plastic hose lasts one year outside due to the weather. No one wants to drag hoses in and out every other day.

I have it for 4 years+, it is wonderful. No more punctures by nails or anything sharp on the ground. It doesn't kink with the rubber ones either. It is ok to drive on top of it. I bought 2 more for various parts of the yard. I highly recommend it. 🤗🤗

I've used lifetime rubber hoses for years and decided to try this hose. At first I LOVED LOVED LOVED this hose but 2 weeks into using it daily the end that attaches to the spigot blew. After pulling back the rubber green cover I found it had blown the hose out of the rubber gasket connection. Although I was able to force the hose back in it wouldn't hold under pressure and I see no good way to replace the end if the connection stops holding. It isn't like I an cut off the end and put a replacement on it like other hoses. So for me I will stick with old fashioned lifetime rubber hoses that continue to last me for years and years even after being left in extreme hot and freezing conditions.

Just trying to help...were you aware of the 12 Month Replacement Warranty? I wasn't until I looked up the info online...didn't notice anything about a warranty on the outer packaging. Hope this info finds you in time. Good luck!

Bought a 50 ft metal garden hose in spring 2017. Lasted til June 2018 before the connection joints at the male and female connectors at each end began to leak. Metal casing came apart, too. I drained the hose in the fall to make sure there was minimal residual water in the line during the winter. I REALLY liked this hose for the light weight, flexibility and ease of movement, but it didn't last. Not sure I'll buy another one.

I've had mine for two years and I will never buy a rubber hose again. I seen a lot of bad comments about this hose and it might be because they are buying cheep brands. I hate rubber hose because of them kinking all the time, these don't and they put away easily when done using. I've even ran over mine twice and have not had any problems. Love them and glad I found them!

I can’t say enough good things about this amazing hose. It does NOT heat up in the sun. It’s lightweight and easy to handle. I bought one for my Dad who is 87 and he too is amazed by the hose. Best hose on the market!

I love my steel garden hoses. I liked the expanding hoses, but my dogs kept chewing them. No leaks from chewing since I got the steel hoses. I've had them a while. The problem I have is that the male end of the hose attached to the nozzle began leaking and kept getting worse. I unscrewed the sleeve over the end and found that a little blue washer popped out of the metal clamp that hooks the end to the hose. I bought another one, but I would like to repair the leaking one if possible. The hose itself is in great condition. Do you know where I can get the proper fittings to repair steel hoses?

I've owned two of them. I have several dogs who like to chew regular hoses. Thought this was a solution. It did solve the dog problems. However both sprang leaks in the middle areas of the hose with a fairly small interval of use. And both leaks progressing to gushing very quickly. Hoses were trash then. Still looking for a dog proof hose.

Mike, can you perform the same exact test with the Steel Metal hose vs. the Hercules hose. You hammered the Hercules, but not the steel. I wonder if it would be the same effect. It would be good to see a vs between the two as Hercules is coiled around an inner tube whereas the steel hose is not. Thanks.

is it supposed to hold up in cold at all? even with no pressure...(its gets very cold in PA and we have lost hoses to the cold, even when stored properly) if that is a claim they make, perhaps you can put it in the freezer?

Had mine (2 of them are 100-foot long) for 5 years now. The gaskets hold up good. No problem with heat. They don't kink either. Pressure on them is good. I've had flat spots where something heavy was dropped on one. The only issue I noted are the fittings. You will note the fittings are "aluminum", and they are of good construction. The problem comes from this fact. If you live in an area where there is no danger of freezing and you leave the hose attached to a brass fitting over a period of time (year or more) the aluminum and brass will weld themselves together and you'll need pliers to disconnect them. The solution is to install Teflon plumbers tape on the male fitting threads. My hose cart has brass fittings and that's how I found this out. In all totally satisfied with mine.

I connect 2 metal garden hoses together and store them on a wheel type storage. I pull them completely the 100 feet length. I really like the metal garden hose but it starts leaking at the connection of the two hoses.I tighten the connection but it doesn't help. The leak comes from between the connector and the hose

I have the AquaJoe 100 foot stainless version. First one busted within 6 weeks w/ very light usage. They honored their warranty & hose #2 kinked/dented within 2 weeks lol.

I came across this video searching to repair my metal hose. I bought the exact hose and loved it for the short time it worked. After just one month of use the rubber tubing inside came loose from connector and it slipped about 2 feet inside the metal casing. I can't figure out how to fish it out to repair it. The rubber insert doesn't have bands or anything that keeps it from slipping inside. Bummer, I really liked it.

I posted the other day about me having one of these and the nozzle blowing off I sat down and look at it and took a pair of long nose needle nose pliers and out pulls the clear rubber insert I got it pulled out I got a small clamp I put the threaded end back on with the clamp it’s working fine

How would you compare it to Pocket Hose? I like the pocket hose as it takes up a fraction of the space of a regular hose, and where we are living, space is critical.

I think they are marketed with different purposes. Retractable hoses like Pocket Hose are highlighted for their ability to retract into a very compact state, while Metal Garden Hose is promoted for being lightweight and highly durable. Most retractable hoses I've used in the past didn't last very long, which is why something like Metal Garden Hose may appeal to some consumers.

So far it looks like a good alternative to other lightweight hoses that get destroyed in weeks. I also wonder how hot the metal will get under high heat. Although it would cool down quickly when turned on with cold water running through it.

I made a rust proof leak proof garden hose. Just get two hose ends from a hardware store, one male and one female then get some food grade plastic tubing of the same size. (ex. 5/8 hose ends and 5/8 plastic tubing) Most hose ends you buy come with a clamp. I made that after I bought that stupid pocket hose and it never leaked. the only problem I had was I used the pocket hose ends and they broke off, easy fix replace with brass.

I just received mine today from HSN under the brand Belmont hose. I was right away disappointed to see aluminum couplings. Also, I could not find any specs on that, or hose diameter on the INSIDE of hose. Or any measurement of diameter period. The 100 foot hose was on sale, which I need the extra length as I only have one outdoor spigot. I do have 30 days to try, but I live in MN and the aluminum couplings turned me right off, and claims have been made aluminum to brass will fuse and ruin the spigot on your house!

Mine blew after 2 weeks but I do have incredible water pressure. No matter how tough the hose is it still has a lousy connection on the spigot end. Good thing it was the connection because I don't see how it can be repaired if it is anything else.

These are okay for watering potted plants, or washing the dog, but they simply don't flow very much water, due to the small inside diameter and the restrictive fittings on each end. Filling a 5 gallon bucket or a small kids wading pool with one of these will take 4 or 5 times as long as a regular five-eighths inch garden hose, and rinsing off the family car will take twice as long.

I have 10 metal garden hoses and they have all failed because the inner hose is either plastic or vinyl and it ultimately tears if you do not keep the hose in a linear position or if you pull it from a real by the nozzle.

I purchased one of those horrible stretch black hoses for my RV water supply... when it arrived I read the tag...."NOT for Potable water" Is this metal hose OK with water I need to used for drinking and cooking.

The packaging states that it's not to be used for drinking. It states: "Portions of this hose are known by the State of California to cause cancer, birth defects, and other reproductive harm. DO NOT drink from hose. Wash hands after use."

I would say it does. I purposely left it on the patio where my big dog is always playing. We step on it and drag it around all the time and it doesn't seem to be affected by the concrete.

What I'd like to know is if it's the same rubber tube insert on the inside. Care to cut it open? If it's like the X-Hose and the others, then it might not last very long in Phoenix. Like Las Vegas these kinds of things last 2 weeks in the desert and just leak like hell after that.

I have had and used mine daily for over 7 years. Just yesterday though, mine got stuck on the hose bib so need to replace. I'm in Phoenix and never got burnt once and it coils up beautifully and is lightweight with no kinks.

All the tests you performed are real and positive. But when I pulled the metal hose to unravel it , the green connector started to leak, and I cant find a repair kit for it. Can you show me how to repair the leak.

I got 2 of these because my neighbor keep cutting my hoses. Putting slits in them and running over them. He even went as far to have his Aunt go to his house every day for 2 weeks and run over my hose. Even after I reminded her it was there. But she still did. It stopped the cutting and running over because they are not burstable and puncture proof. But the down fall is that the ends blow off so you have to press them back on. P.s. both units hookups are on his side of the unit. In case you are wondering why it's in a location to be tampered with.

LOOKS LIKE A GOOD PRODUCT FOR FULL-TIME RAVING. DOES IT COME IN 25' AND CAN IT BE USED AS A POTABLE OR DRINKING WATER HOSE. I'M SURE SELF REGULATING HEAT TAPE WOULD WORK REALLY WELL WITH THIS HOSE. GOOD REVIEW AS USUAL.

Thank you brother. I was thinking of it as a drinking water hose for my motor home which I'm in FULL-TIME and drinking water hoses from camping world and other places just don't hold up. Kink the Chinese brass is garbage DAMN shame because it looks like the last hose you would have to buy. I'm going to have deal with the garbage till someone can make a drinking water hose that lasts more than a year. Or build my own with premium brass fittings.

pressure depends on what your water pressure is from the hose bib outside .City water and well water would have different in pressure

Not necessarily. Most city water is around 50 psi - there is usually an in-line limiter if it is higher. My well is set to 45 - 60 psi, so it is just as high as city water. The usual limit is either long runs of small diameter pipes to the hose bib and/or small diameter hose. That hose looks like it is 1/2" inside diameter at best. That will reduce the pressure at the nozzle quite a bit - especially over a 50 foot hose run. You would have to cut a hose in half to find out what the internal diameter of the internal hose actually is.

As with many hoses, there are internal different diameters. Most appear to be 3/8ths like most hoses. Smaller diameter, more pressure, less water, depends upon your needs.

After just one season I can tell you that both of my hoses of this exact same brand both started leaking. The material inside the metal just deteriorated and broke down and now the entire thing is garbage.

I have a really big yard and back deck. Of course we started with regular hoses. They kinked or were so heavy they were nothing but a pain. I do have two 100 foot Craftsman practically indestructibles that have ended up being "the first step" in my hose set ups. They go on the spigots and then I just leave them out all year on the ground and hook up the flexible ones on their ends at the beginning of summer. I have a really big yard and we have lots and lots of hanging flowers. Our property butts up to the mountain, rocks etc here in Clancy MT. Here in August, it is hitting 90 every day and with the dry wind, sometimes you gotta water hanging plants twice a day. It is pretty, but what a bear. I shake my head a lot. I finally ended up buying those green flexible hoses that were so popular here a few years ago because of their weight and ability to move around easily. Their problem is durability. As you might have noticed they are good for one summer or less and then they start leaking/spraying in the middle and depending upon their ends (plastic/metal) they break but they are nice for moving around. The best part about them is the turn-off ends that come with them. I have them on everything. So, for like three years, I buy them cheap at the end of the summer and get them for like half price at various places, use em one summer, buy another bunch. Then my wife bought a 110 foot version of one of these metal ones on one of the shopping channels and I'm like yeah, right but I was willing to try anything. Surprise surprise, that thing is nice and did what they said it would. It pretty much matches your review. I love the weight and durability, particularly when compared to those flexible green ones that are good for six weeks or so. That long one has actually taken care of the back yard/deck situation. So, she saw two 50 footers on sale at another TV shopping site and I got those for the front. Then I saw a fifty footer on sale at Walmart for 25 bucks and got that. So, in terms of length, I'm covered now. I also use quick connect things I get at Home Depot to quickly adjust lengths but seldom need to. I'm impressed. Long term durability being the only question at this point. Frankly, they are all good including the cheapo Walmart version. The primary difference is in the couplings. The one she got has the colored aluminum like in your video. It "appears" to be the highest quality. They all CNC'd aluminum with weight/thickness being the primary difference. I can't see the actual connection under the metal hose. The free sprayers are just all right. They are good for a high pressure get the mud off of something and that is about it. The two 50's I got are second in quality imho, but roughly equivalent quality and I prefer the two fifties over the 110 for adapatability purposes. The Walmart version has obviously thinner aluminum ends but they work fine so far. So, I'll be interested in seeing how these last. From a daily working standpoint, they are great. They do not kink, but like you noted, they can get into a knot. I have no idea how that happens by the way. So, I'd give one a try if you use a hose a lot.

Hose came apart at connection, they would not replace. Don't waste your money.

Just trying to help...were you aware of the 12 Month Replacement Warranty? I wasn't until I looked up the info online...didn't notice anything about a warranty on the outer packaging. Hope this info finds you in time. Good luck!

Yes....they leak. They cover you under warranty. Not with a replacement home but with cash instead. That tells me the Zero G is yet another bad hose. Disappointing, I had three bought at different intervals. All but two leak.

Will this hose survive weed wacker? Every hose I buy, my boyfriend always destroys it with the wacker.
