To anyone that thinks MGR contradict's Raiden's character development, know this: The backstory for MGR is that Raiden, even after getting artificial skin to conceal his cyborg enhancements, could not find work to support Rose and his son that didn't involve war. That's why he found a job working for Maverick, believing that specific PMC was about peacekeeping and security consultation, not being a hired gun for war like in MGS4. Which is why he's always going on about justice, which is why he believed what he was working towards was right. As the game progressed, you see Raiden steer himself towards a path lead by his own sense of justice.

In a way, Raiden's story is about accepting whatever fucked up past you may have and embrace everything that you once were. Jack has spent all his life trying to forget who he was, but eventually he realised he could never fully suppress it and move on, so he accepted it. He knows he's a psychopath, and he's okay with that. Because at the end of the day, he's still a Hero.

Raiden starts out so goofy and awkward and then becomes one of the most intense and interesting characters in the whole franchise, but what makes it work for him is that the progression feels so natural and unforced. Excellent character development and writing makes that possible, and an excellent VA makes it happen.

This was awesome. Shame about the song at the end, but still. Should do one for Ocelot. People don't realise it, but if the Metal Gear Solid series is about any one person's story, it's him. He's in every game. He's the reason for the success of the mission in MGS3. Him being a double agent results in the US getting hold of the Philosopher's Legacy, which he then gets hold of for Zero: without him, the Patriots would never have happened. He's also the reason that Big Boss joined the Patriots originally, by his request. Big Boss being in the Patriots, and then leaving, lead to Les Enfants Terribles. He's the one who recovers the Metal Gear blueprints after MGS1, when it's revealed he's a spy, which is the reason Metal Gears spring up all over the world. He orchestrates all of the events in MGS2 and MGS4, and is the entire reason that they were able to stop the Patriots. In every single game, he's actually been the most important character. Should be called Metal Gear Ocelot.

leerobbo92 He is by far one of the most active and important characters but I would point out that he only first appears in MGS1 so he hasn't exactly been in every single game but it was close. He wasn't there in Zanzibar land to even know that Grey Fox had died there, but there is always the possibility the two met while being apart of Diamond Dogs and had some sort of rivalry going on. Ocelot's story is far from being done in my opinion.

From some different fandoms and their arguments to say that this game does not concern as Canon for what the story is ridiculously silly and nonsense. those have not seen the codec conversations, what MGR explains it, and why Raiden goes for fight, and not to stay with rose, is like this; Raiden lived with Rose happily. The problem? clearly because of his cybernetic body, he could not change it. He had to go with suits to hide his body from people who looked at him as a phenomenon: he couldnt get a job. Because he did not have the money to take care of his family, and let Rose take the load, Raiden had no option but to work in some military center. In this case, as a security guard before entering Marverich. After that, the plot begins with stopping those who killed the prime minister, and he realizes that behind them, they turning this people beings like Raiden into Jack. Taking that which concerns Raiden, he confronts them. Technically, Raiden had a simple task, it was to stop the Desperados, but not to confront them. And after that, Sam, motivating him to proceed with fighting Desperado to World Marshal, which in the DLC he could not complete, it is as if he was trying to pass his legacy to Raiden to go against those corrupt, and thus know what " Reveangeance " is. Which makes me think that Sam starred in the story, instead of Raiden. So... I dont understand this people and his ideas against for a game that is not Snake; The poor man had a month to live, and that was said in MGS4, this game is when 3 years later passed, it continues to raiden.

As absurd as MGS4 was as regards Raiden, I couldn't help but feel that the moment in which Jack and Raiden Jr. stare at each other was masterfully done. They're looking one another with a kind of fascination: Jack seeing the child he never thought he'd have, and John seeing the hero he thought was only fiction. I really do like the meta-narrative around Raiden as a self-insert character and the ambiguity behind everything leading up to and occurring at Big Shell. Bruce Wayne and Zero struggled long and hard against all kinds of opponents and loss solely for what they believe no matter what it means for their lives and both unsurprisingly, gracefully reject the notion of being a hero because of perceived wrongs and reprehensibility about themselves and their morally shady actions for knowingly greater causes. It's not for any sense of glory or pride that they fight against any overwhelming odds, it's solely their ideals and faith in the people around them they place higher that made literally both of them unfazed to suicidally and painfully blazingly crash from space if it saves the world and Jack is no different in his fearlessness towards death and will to cut his own future and justice in the face of entire global military corporations capable of taking him on and down resolute to ensure no child ever knows the long and painful, but gods thankfully optimistic journey of insatiable maniacal beast and cynical soldier to loving husband, father and hero redemption he's had to take. Sorry if all that text, metaphor and emotion seems excessive, I just wanted to let you know just how fucking good that was and I'd say I did.

Big boss’s whole thing was that a soldier’s mind never leaves the battlefield. We’ve been told this throughout the series. Same with gray fox,most of fox hound, most of desperado, and especially the same with Jack. And like gray fox, in the end Jack chose to fight for what he believed in. not being tools for the government or anyone else. Preventing other kids suffering his same past as child soldiers. Rising is goated for that. Honestly felt more in line for mgs2 than mgs4 did in terms of raidens charecter.
