I love how every soundtrack in the beta version were a lot more focused on the instruments sounds, it's much more rock than the final release

They were given a lot more synth, probably to fit in with the cyborg theme... Or to give them even more energy. Still, they're great tracks on their own. If I had to guess, some fo them were made without an explicit purpose, like Red Sun and Stains of Time, and were later adapted to be the boss themes of Desperado cyborgs.

The reason why they remade the songs is to make them fit in with the lore, cause the themes explain the character, like jetstream sam, or monsoon

Yes! That is definitely one thing i would change with all music, have the instrument and the static be evened up as much as locked and loaded was. Making it seem more cool and less too futuristic.

A lot of people here seem to want the beta version of The Hot Wind Blowing, but it sadly may not exist. You have to remember that the DLC was released after the final release, meaning that the version we have now is probably the same as the beta.

My ratings of each version: 0:00 - LOCKED AND LOADED - The instrumental somehow hits harder than Rules Of Nature’s instrumental and the singing’s good, but the lyrics don’t hit for me. Either way, this is an 11/10. 3:21 - I’M MY OWN MASTER NOW - Isn’t this kinda already a part in the actual song? Whatever. 8/10. 3:44 - HERE I COME/A STRANGER I REMAIN - I didn’t even know it had an intro like A Stranger I Remain because every version of it I’ve been able to find on KZbin skips it. The singer’s okay, but it immediately becomes god-tier once the retail’s chorus kicks in. 9/10. 8:51 - THE STAINS OF TIME - No vocals, but this is pretty good either way. Wait, what if they used this and an instrumental for Here I Come for the body doubles of Mistral and Monsoon? 10/10. 11:16 - RED SUN - It’s on the same level of the retail version and I like the build up to the chorus better than the retail version. The retail version’s build up was good, but somewhat about the beta’s build up hits harder. 10/10. 13:29 - THE ONLY THING I KNOW FOR REAL - The instrumental hits way harder and sounds like Sam’s done joking around. Maybe it could’ve been good for the third phase of Sam’s boss fight. But the vocals sound like Demoman’s singing them and it sounds weird. The vocals do get better in the chorus, so that’s good! 10/10. (Wonder if Tyson Yen’ll ever do a cover of this version.) 15:36 - COLLECTIVE CONSCIOUSNESS - Feels so much more aggressive than the retail version, but I hate how the vocals are in a completely different key from the instrumental. I actually prefer the retail version because it fits the vibe of fighting a huge mechanical beast way better. 8/10. 18:09 - IT HAS TO BE THIS WAY - It feels way less climactic than the retail version, but I guess that’s just because the retail IHTBTW is hard to top. 4/10. 21:05 - CUT YOU DOWN TO SIZE - I can barely understand the singer. Either way, 7/10.

All of these vocals are a bit shaky, but I think collective consciousness with its "high pitched" vocals, immediatly ignites a pretty uncomfortable and sinister feeling. But still its better that all of these vocals got replaced with the newers ones.

Opinions on the vocals: Here I come : Interesting how its a darker rendition of A Stranger I Remain. Sounds a little forced but still interesting. 5/10 The Only Thing I Know For Real : Starts very shaky and a little weird, but the chorus is RAW. Really well done after that point, you can tell theres a lot of emotion put into it. 9/10 Collective Consciousness : Starts off sounding weird as well, but gets better. Slight lyric change is also interesting. 6/10 It Has To Be This Way : What happened here?? It sounds like a purposely bad dub. However, the bloostained sand part was decent. 1/10 Cut You Down To Size : Pretty enjoyable to be honest. Not much to say really. 7/10

I love how many beta versions, especially visible in Mistral and Sam, incorporate like 30 styles and instruments throught its course, basically telling devs "We can play it any of those ways for it to sound good, now grab this musical lego and pick and choose whatever you like". Also, love the "Here I come" part of Mistral, shame they chose one Vamp was enough and decided to keep only "Stranger I Remain" part.

They are exactly the same. The instrumental is much different though, and then there's the even older version of her track, that seems to be incomplete. So most people just tied the 2 together.
