This is definitely one of MGR’s stand out tracks, the chorus is just so catchy. Sadly a lot of people don’t get to hear the lyrics ingame, as it’s very easy to beat Sundowner during his first phase where his boss theme is just the instrumental.

Sundowner's name is actually reference to sundowner winds which are dangerous, because that wind is very hot and dry so it makes much easier for wildfire to spread. That's an allusion to the boss himself - he's a warmonger, who's spreadings the fire of war across the world. Same goes for the lyrics - it actually consists of allusions and references to the game's topics and his ideology, as the member of Winds of Destruction.

Yup, he sees love of war, cruelty as something "warm and pure", because it can be seen in children. And description of redness, fires, vulture hunting prey, reptile losing tail is seen by him as "pretty, all the scenery, this is nature's sacrifice". MGR ost is pique of game osts. And i'm saying that considering games like Bastion and Transistor. MGR songs manage to be very fun, hype and meaningful at the same time, conveying very complex ideas and worldview in pretty simple form to consume.

A really weird phenomenon with all of the MGR music uploaded on youtube is that nobody ever uploads the full versions from the soundtrack, which plays the instrumental and then the vocal version on the second loop. I think that's a shame because the entire gimmick of the battle themes in MGR are that they transition into the vocals when the fight gets to a certain point and listening to it that way is a much better experience and would be a more interesting reaction for you to do, analyzing the instrumentals first and then how the vocals transform the song.

The sad part is that almost NOBODY listens to the vocal part of Red Sun, mostly cuz you can just defeat him easily without destroying his shield, and destroying its shield needs some focus and patience to learn, which most ppl don't have when playing casually on the first time. It's insanely fun for me to fight him patiently and get to the vocals, but oh well... One not well thought out way boss fight to get to the vocals part, the rest of the game nails it hard.

There are, technically speaking, stealth sections in MGR: Revengeance. In some of these sections, it is even advisable to take a stealth approach to take out enemies quickly or to avoid unnecessary combat. And yet, most people just rush in, sword swinging, because when you get to hear music like this, why wouldn't you?

imo this is the standout song. It its the only one that so happily presents itself as "a villain song" Every other boss tries to justify why they do what goes on but Sundowner outright is just a villain. He wants people hurt. He wants destruction. And in a weird sense, you get a genuine sense of a character that purely wants to cause harm through his OST. In a weird way I kind of love this song for that aspect.

I personally quite enjoy the lyrics "when the wind is slow when the fires hot" as it references the California Sundowner Winds which Sundowner is named after. Sundowner Winds are clouds of incredibly hot air swept across large areas of land. Additionally, all of the other main villains are named after different kinds of wind phenomena, as there are also Jetstream Winds, Mistral Winds and Monsoon Winds

Revengeance is a truly special game, it's not just an incredible character action game, but it also has excellent humor, writing, aesthetic, and of course, the soundtrack. the music in particular is special, where the lyrics kick in during key moments of the fight, indicating it is the make or break point, BUT ALSO, the lyrics represent the boss's ideology and mentality. The game also doesn't overstay its welcome, though I'd definitely be happy if they made a second one(which they apparently were, but then Konami decided they didn't want to do video games anymore and killed it)

Also to clue you in the gameplay the main series is stealth based with light action segments and the odd boss battle that usually has some gimmick to be beaten. I swear every track in this game is designed to just force you to headbang without realizing it. I may redownload my copy on steam and play it again.

Every boss theme works differently with its lyrics. In some bosses they kick in after you deal enough damage and the boss enters their final phase, in Sundowner's fight the lyrics kick in if you cut off his shields and he goes on the offensive, for Jetstream Sam (The Only Thing I Know for Real) the Lyrics play as long as he's holding his sword, if you knock the sword out of his hands it shifts into the instrumental version, Rules of Nature only has lyrics during segments when you're dealing massive damage to Metal Gear RAY (or during the whole fight when it plays for a lesser robot later in the game). The way that these themes are dynamic vary on a case by case basis, but it always has a reason contextually to happen.

Hi Jesse! I love that you’re covering more MGR:R! If you have time, or have it as a patreon request, you should totally cover Guilty Gear Strive! The game’s OST is pretty rad, much like MGR. My personal fav is The Roar of the Spark, Ky Kiske’s theme. Awesome video once again! 🤘

you gotta play this game. its a short, action filled game that only takes 5-8 hours to beat so you can burn through it in 1-3 settings.

it's either super heavy electric rock with thrash influrnces, or fairly light electric thrash metal. But yeah, hard to find more of.

The genius thing about MGR’s music is they put a lot of characterization for the bosses you are fighting into it

I hope that when he eventually gets to "A Stranger I Remain" the person who requested it sent him the version that has the full and complete song instead of the version that's cutdown for the game itself.
