Personally I'd have gone the other way around. Snake faces Solidus in a desperate attempt for Raiden to wake up since he was unconscious, getting pretty badly beat all over the place, and then Raiden wakes up to find Snake bloodied and beaten. Then he grabs his sword, challenges Solidus, and then SWORDFIGHT. Call forwards to Rising mandatory.

The idea back in MGS2 was the Patriots were just US government and other relevant parties (mass media, big business) creating an AI to ensure society moves along in a direction suitable to them, not a superhero comic book supervillain scheme by a British man, Ocelot, and their minions to enact the will (or not) of some lady. Simulation inception. No matter how you tell the story of mgs2 it's still always canon and yet not canon at the same time and that's fucking beautiful. Maybe raiden killed solidus, maybe he didn't, maybe he was a whiny little bitch, maybe he was a badass, who the fuck knows or cares? Ok, this is gonna be a hot take As someone who loves MGS2 game to death, my opinion with this graphic novel is a bit mixed. In one hand, i do appreciate some of the changes like Solid Snake having more screentime which is always appreciated since Snake is my favourite character in the series and David Hayter will always be Snake to me and perfectly nails that performance, not mention having one of the best lines of all MGS "Fine with me. I'd rather be a mistake than be the one that causes them. Also i do love some of the changes like Colonel complaining about Raiden and Stillman not doing their roles from the games was kinda funny and clever. I also like that Stillman and Fatman had lot more interaction with each other and we finally got to see what happened between Snake and Olga. Also, the bit with Ocelot hallucinating about Liquid and Sorrow was pretty good, although bit tacked on. Voice acting in general is top notch. Changes that i was bit mixed upon was the scenes where Snake basically replaces Raiden's scenes, although i kinda like Snake vs. Vamp fight, even though Raiden and Vamp are more sworn enemies from the games. Although i appreciate them giving Snake more to do than in the game, it was sadly at expense on Raiden's character. Also Rose is not nearly as enough in this novel, but i can sort of understand that because people find her annoying in the game. Oh, speaking of the changes i didn't like was removal of Otacon and Emma's dark family history and Emma barely having a character to her than she had in the game. And when she died in the novel, i just kept shrugging my shoulders because i barely knew this character. Granted, Emma wasn't super deep character in the game version, but at least there we learned about her family history, the trauma of almost drowning and her interaction with Raiden and her Otacon. Even though she said she hated him for abandoning him, she still missed him deep down after all these years. It's quite sad. Look, i'm not expecting 1:1 copy of the original game, but i expected the changes improve upon the narrative than being inferior to the ones in the game. Another change i didn't really like Raiden's character and him being nerfed in the graphic novel. Raiden seems bit too aggressive to me compared to how he was in the games. I kinda liked Raiden being bit of a dork, but with darker side in MGS2. One of the reasons why i like Cloud from original Final Fantasy 7. People call out Raiden being a whiny bitch from MGS2, but i don't think its warranted. For the most of the time it was justified, when he was constantly kept out of loop and having literal identity crisis and seeing all crazy shit. It also annoys me how Raiden felt kinda nerfed during this novel. Sure, Raiden is not legend like Snake, but he can handle on his own. He is not mere rookie as he spent his childhood as a child soldier and had impressive kill count. And lastly, i hate the change of Snake killing Solidus instead of Raiden. As some have said, it feels like fanboyism and pandering at worst even if i love Snake's character, but Snake hardly had any interactions or encounters with Solidus, so it feels really forced to have Snake have final duel with Solidus. Solidus's defeat by Raiden had much more meaning and they both share dark history. Overall this wasn't great, but somewhat decent Graphic Novel. I still think MGS1 novel was bit better in comparison.

If this is any hint as to what we will see for the cinematic adaptations, I'm in, baby. I'm all in. After watching MGS 1 and 2 Graphic Novels, I am convinced that these can these stories can be cut to 2-3 hours and make excellent films, on par with The Dark Knight, Captain America 2, and other blockbuster comic book titles. It may not make as much money, but it will probably make Matrix money. My hope is they base the MGS film on the previous digital graphic novel, and the second on this graphic novel, perhaps pacing the story a bit more and splitting it into two parts. The film series would conclude Solid Snake's story with the third film, Guns of the Patriots This could allow for the actor, after four films, to then transfer the lead to another actor to play Big Boss. Big Boss would then continue the film series with another trilogy, Snake Eater and Phantom Limbs (2 parts). It would have the familiar scent of Marvel.

A little. The one thing I preferred about THIS version over the original is where Snake says at the end, "I'd rather be a mistake, than be the one who makes them." Hey, not for nothing, I wonder how one gets into voice acting. THESE voice actors did a great job, I thought. And I hear it's a great job to have, but that it's not as easy to achieve as it sounds. A part of me always wanted to do voice acting because of the video game from 2001.

honestly this comic is pretty good.... up until Snake kill Solidus instead of Raiden that was Bullshit and I have no idea why they changed it. like others said it feels pandering because people didn't like that Snake was sidelined in this game, even to the point where they outright replace some of Raiden's moments for Snake

I like how this addresses story not seen in the game. Patriots telling Fatman to attack Raiden, Snake seeing Olga etc. It may take a different spin in some parts, but it elaborates on parts of the original story too. Johnson inputting the code, relating to Solidus about the Patriots control of them as president. Good stuff. Although it doesnt pack any of the quality or emotion the original scenes in the game have.

The art style was okay for me, but damn, the script. I'd have preferred an exact adaptation, so that even one that has not played the game can understand what is going on. Completely skipping Olga's intro/fight was an immediate red flag to me that liberties were taken with this, and I usually hate it when that happens. Pacing seems to be an issue too. Cutting a rant short, if the story is going to be different, don't call it Metal Gear Solid 2 Digital Graphic Novel. Give it it's own name so people will know there are differences between this and the actual game script.

Unpopular opinion. I like more how the plot is played out in novels more than in games. It's just the second attempt to the story which now seems to be more thoughtfully and carefully made. The plot make more sense and seems more... solid. Makes everything to be whole, one story. I know Kojima likes to complicate things in games but sometimes they're just more enjoyable when the info is clear and direct.
@Type03xx7 жыл бұрын
While it's debatable whether Raiden got nerfed so bad in this or not. It also make sense in that Raiden is just a rookie, at least compare to many hardened veterans like Snake, Solidus or Ocelot. (Raiden in the game is so strong because of us, the player, just like how we made certain medic to rival Big Boss in reputation and skill) I do admit that I want Raiden to fights Vamp, they are damn arch-nemesis so they deserve their moment of awesome. And if I remembered correctly, Snake didn't do very well with sword or blade. I prefer that Solidus charged at Snake, trying to cut him down, only to be countered last second by well placed bullet in the lung or head.
@teriosshadow1710 ай бұрын
Sure, Raiden is not like Snake, but he is more than just a rookie. He was a child soldier during his youth and had incredible kill count according to Solidus. That alone makes him more formidable than the Medic from MGS5

The comic probably was dubbed some time after MGS2, and Quentin Flynn was starting to get more comfortable with his new Raiden voice, similar to how David Hayter's Snake voice got better over the course of the series. But that's just a theory A GAME THEORY!

The MGS2 video game is still the definitive version of this story, for many reasons, but its dialogue is incredibly long-winded and meandering. I think the Digital Graphic Novel made a valiant effort at making the dialogue more concise and to-the-point.

I much preferred the way the story of Sons of Liberty was told in this graphic novel than how it was told through the game and the lengthy cutscenes. However, the lengthy cutscenes in the game were only good in the scenes where Raiden speaks to Richard Ames, and later when he speaks to President Johnson and to Emma Emmerich, as between the three of them, their lengthy conversations in the game give greater detail to the real agenda of the Sons of Liberty group, the existence of the Patriots and how they work as a shadowy cabal and how the Arsenal Gear G.W. Artificial Intelligence system was created and what it does etc. Aside from those moments, the graphic novel delivered the story perfectly. In certain parts, replacing Raiden with Solid Snake worked well, although in other parts this seemed to have been done a bit excessively, and yes, I think this was just pandering to people (such as myself) who were pissed off with the existence of Raiden in the first place. If Raiden had sounded a little less like a whiny little bitch-boy and more like a young soldier trying to follow in the footsteps of his hero, then I probably would have enjoyed the character more. The only thing I liked was that you got to see another side to Solid Snake while playing as a different character fighting alongside Snake. I also have the Raymond Benson novels of Metal Gear Solid and Metal Gear Solid 2. Metal Gear Solid was great but at times it seemed like Snake forgot that he was a tactical espionage agent and not Rambo - at certain points he seemed to gun down everything in sight. Metal Gear Solid 2 novel literally followed the game transcript word for word. As a fan of the Metal Gear Solid series for over twenty years, I would love digital graphic novel versions of the entire series and would have loved Raymond Benson to write novels for the entire series, not just Solid and Solid 2. I really want a proper telling of the stories of Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 where Snake defeats Outer Heaven and ZanzibarLand. Have been working on fan-fiction novels for both, with them both retconned with stuff revealed in MGSV. And in my fan-fiction, ZanzibarLand is in fact set in the same region where Metal Gear Solid 3 took place and geographically I have placed this region as Kyrgyzstan. Geographically I placed Outer Heaven in Lesotho, a landlocked nation in South Africa.

i dont get the comment of "if they didnt change the story, why would they even make it?", when the very obvious answer is that a new medium could bring new depth to the characters, simplify cutscene dialogue, flesh out story beats none of that requires transforming raiden and then just tossing him aside in favor of snake anyways, mgs2 is a perfectly fine story that deserves a better adaptation

I loved MGS2 and appreciated it's story and plot so much more on my second play through, the first playthrough I was too pissed off at not playing as Snake after years of waiting for the game and kept on wondering when I would get to be Snake again to notice anything about the game tbh. Honestly though, MGS2's storyline is actually becoming a reality in today's world, Kojima called it back in 2001! (probably 1999 when he wrote the original story lol)

As if that's a good thing? This comic serves to at least try to improve the original story at parts (Minus the kill steal Snake gives Raiden at the end). Raiden slipping into his "Jack the Ripper" persona at points, the Solidus foreshadowing, etc all added to this adaptation in really neat ways. The parody comic was just that, a parody. It wouldn't have been a particularly good one if the author just made up things to complain about.
