Fatman is a pretty unique villain for this series. So many of the bosses you face off against are, when you get right down to it, soldiers. They may be motivated be ideals, loyalty, trauma, or just an inability to adapt to civilian life but they are soldiers. They have reasons for what they do. But Fatman isn't anything like that. He's not motivated by a greater cause or some deeply intricate purpose. He's just a monster seeking fame and attention. A mass killer fantisizing about the media and movies he thinks will be made of him as a result of the pain and destruction he's inflicted, not much different from your average school, church, or supermarket shooter.

True. Psycho-Mantis is the only other boss I can think of that's pretty similar in the sense that he wasn't driven by an ideology, but even he was different from Fatman because he was driven by pure hatred and resentment.

Normally your average Metal Gear Solid protagonist would silently listen to the villain monologuing before and after the fight and then leave the battle scene without saying a word.
