Can't imagine what it was like to purchase this game in 2001 and watch this opening. Absolutely mind blowing, Kojima's love for film and cinematography is clearly present here. It feels like I'm about to see a spectacular action movie, which isn't far off from the truth!

@Mr Max Anderson I'll tell you what my dude, the marketing behind this game and the PS2 was nothing short of phenomenal! When they were showing the beautiful graphics, and incredible touches to the game such as the wet footprints, shooting pipes, and water effects, nothing at that time(2000) even compared to what was on the horizon! The '90s were a magical time for gaming, however the turn of the century set the standard for the future of gaming! To me, the late 90's to 2012, was the true golden age of gaming! Then onwards gaming as a whole was destroyed by corporate greed through micro transactions, and a different coat of paint slapped on the same product, just to milk consumers dry! Another thing that's killing gaming, is developers are more interested in forcing their woke b.s.,rather than being innovative and delivering a solid game with interesting characters and story! Oh well, at least there are still the indy developers to bring us unique experiences, but other than the golden age of gaming is dead!

I remember this intro cinematic being part of a demo disc I got way back in 2001 with an issue of Official Playstation Magazine. I had gleaned every bit of info I could anywhere I could (this was pre-internet exposure), and my anticipation was beyond the roof. When I watched this for the first time, I couldn't believe what I was looking at, the graphics were far beyond anything I thought possible and the music was phenomenal. But you know what clinched it? 2:34 exactly in this video, when Snake slowly rises and the music swells triumphantly... At that precise moment my head practically explodes just like it did back in 2001.

You don’t even feel like it’s a video game. The music, the characters, and the story make you a part of the struggle and you feel as though you’re in the fight with them. Harry Gregson-Williams who is an accomplished cinema composer was approached by Hans Zimmer to assist with the Batman Begins soundtrack. Hans said he needed Harry’s help because Hans doesn’t do well with the emotional side of the music. Harry is a master at it. The unforgettable Batman theme from that trilogy is due to their beautiful duet. Two legends.

This game was ahead of it's time. The graphics were ahead of it's time (at least 1-3 years) plus the political message in MGS2 was at least a decade ahead of it's time. Best Metal Gear Solid game ever and arguably one of the best games ever made. It is a masterpiece. If anyone wants to play very good MGS games, play MGS1 (not the Twin Snakes), MGS2, MGS3 and MGS4.

I'm playing through the MGS franchise for the first time now. There is this feeling sometimes before I play a certain game, I have these nudges that it might be one of my favorites ever. I had it with MGS2, and lo and behold the very opening made me cry. I think that's a good start lol.

Seeing the stone tablet to the paper to the digitized codes... as the digital flow of information throughout the years.. the game's primary theme(s) blew my effing mind as a kid. MGS2 is Kojima's Masterwork imho. Love all his other work by the way, but this one just hits hardest for me lol

Because this game is fifteen years old and if you haven't yet played it, you probably shouldn't be watching videos on youtube for a start.

But before even playing the game you don't know who Raiden is, and plus most of the scenes used in this intro are from the Tanker mission. Kojima covered the twist very well. It doesn't really imply anywhere that you will play as anyone other then Snake until it actually happens.

My points is, these images aren't spoilers when there's no context to it.

I remember about two days before the game was going to come out spoilers about Raiden were released when someone broke the street date And images about Raiden came out

I could not contain my excitement when I popped this into my machine on release day. There's no describing what kind of event this was for many of us who lived it. And you have to remember that gaming back then wasn't nearly as big and widespread as it is now and games-as-amateur-film was still a pretty new concept. These days writers who fail to make it in TV or movies go to games or aspire to them directly, but this was something else entirely and not seen widely in the industry. This was a big follow-up to the first game that truly blew everyone's mind and this intro just brings me right back to those days. I used to just boot the game and watch this thing lol

Remember the tanker mission when you first encounter the surveillance camera. Instead of walking past it. Just stand go into first person mode and look down the hallway. It looks so damn real. For 2001 the graphics are still amazing. Even on HD collection some scenes you'll be like damn that looks real af.
