People seem to miss the very ending. Ocelot saying "You're pretty good." means he has his memories back, he had therapies to make himself truly believe he was liquid to throw off the La-Li-Lu-Le-Lo. For him to say that, right before he dies was him remembering everything and he was Ocelot again. Correct me if I'm wrong it's been a hot minute since I delved heavily into MGS's lore.

@davidmenard79595 жыл бұрын
I love how Surreal this scene is overall. Mainly because you slowly realize that they never needed to fight. Both Snake and Ocelot wanted to get rid of the Patriot's influence. Ocelot wanted to destroy it. Snake wanted to remove the rule of GW over the world. Both carry on the Boss's legacy against Zero. Although Ocelot had a more extremist approach, it was all thwarted by FOXALIVE's better outcome. So why are they even fighting if the patriots are now gone? There shouldn't even be a battle in the first place. Other than the pretense of their brotherly conflict, Liquid versus Solid. But Liquid's already dead. So what gives? It's ocelot playing another double agent through psychotherapy, so why keep the act? The real reason this magnificent battle happens is that Ocelot knows of FOXDIE, he knows what it can do. He's seen it in MGS1 And he sure knows as all hell that the Patriots are going to send another carrier of FOXDIE as he performs his stunt. Therefore, Ocelot meeting Snake here on Outer Haven's finale was a willing act of Suicide. And the only reason why they are fighting is simply that. Ocelot wants to relive the feeling of seeing Big Boss one last time, to be honored the feeling of fighting him in battle like they used to back when war was a much simpler affair, back when one fought for what they believed in, not for their own country or its ideals. And with the fall of the system, They have entered a time where they are no longer needed. The husks of old heroes of a now bygone age. And everything must go back to Zero. Solid Snake / Liquid Snake Solid Snake / Liquid Ocelot Naked Snake / Ocelot Old Snake / Old Ocelot.

This is EXACTLY what I was looking for when searching for this fight on KZbin. I don't want to see the player just dominating the fight, winning without taking a punch... that's great for the player but boring for the viewer. This is the climax of the entire series. I want to see an appropriately climactic fight, that up until the end is fairly evenly matched, where Snake takes almost as many hits as he gives. And considering the fight has so many context specific actions, it's nice to see those explored. Really does justice to the fight from a narrative perspective I had the same thought when searching for the fight against The Boss in MGS 3 on youtube. All the videos I found were just killing her as quickly as possible, before the music at the end even starts. The fight is way, way more adrenaline rushing if Snake loses some of the CQC exchanges, and defeats her while the Snake Eater theme is playing Thanks for uploading this.

This is the most hype a video game has ever been for me. I legit screamed like a little girl when they injected themselves with some nanoaids or shit and the mgs1 healthbars started to fill up, it's literally two old dudes having the most scuffed fight ever, yet it feels as if two giantic mountains grew legs and decided to duel and I love Kojima for that, it would never be so good without the entire build-up, the entire game may be just a goofy fan pleaser but I love it so much. Also the music just cements it for me as a legendary moment.

I agree. Man, do I agree so much. I was surprised that so many people hated it, and wondered if they were even... fans of the series or not. It did so many things fantastically, and the "unskippable cutscenes" would've only been an issue for me if they were unskippable in subsequent playthroughs, but they aren't unskippable. In my opinion, it ties up the series very well. The "Snake and Otacon turn themselves in" thing is a pretty cheap idea in my opinion; they'd be letting themselves die for essentially no reason other than to give a "hero dies" ending.

I never understood mgs4 when I played it as a kid but now. They both use their exact same moves as in MGS. It's a carbon copy of the original fight. But now it's just sad. Both are so old and beaten, only pathetic revenge drives Liquid and makes both waste their lives in pointless fighting. But then, something happens. Snake starts using moves both Ocelot and him used on all their history together. Ocelot gets his body, his mind back. Both sons of the Boss. Brothers, Ocelot and snake. It's no longer a dogfight, but an old practise exercise. A sparring session. Even their hp bars change to that exciting time Only for Ocelot, back in his senses, finished but always proud. With the first true words he heard, the first time someone was ever nice to him, says "youre pretty good" Man what an ending
@that_oneguy003 жыл бұрын
Exactly. That’s why this series is so great. Even the worst ones in the series deliver something great. This is why these two characters sit in our minds so many years later. The characters are so captivating and all have their own motivations and goals, like Liquid as you said petty revenge drives him to the brink in which he truly dies and Ocelot gets to truly live again. This is where the Metal Gear Solid series should have ended. Say what you want about the game, but you can’t deny that this fight gives all of these characters, and us, the closure that was needed. Truly amazing.

Everyone jokes about 9:10 but it really feels like the most powerful moment in the fight. Ocelot loves snake in the way that a bother loves a brother, a father loves a son, and a son loves a father. Snake is his rival, friend, and enemy. He doesn't show affection while Snake is conscious because they're fighting, but he can't help himself when snake goes limp from the choke. As soon as Snake starts to come to, Ocelot puts him back in a choke hold. He doesn't want to drop the illusion that this is a real fight rather than the suicide of a tired old soldier who just wants a good world. There's just so much tragedy and strength in this series.

This entire fight is one of my favorite scenes in the entire series. It's just so _heavy._ It works as a fanservice callback to the whole main series at that point(the health bars and music changing at each portion of the fight indicating that it's referencing a new game, MGS1 -> 2 -> 3 -> 4), but even that same series of callbacks tells a story. It begins with two rivals, two warriors at the top of their game, a triumphant reprise of the past. Facing each other in an ultimate, final confrontation. And as time drags on, it becomes two old men who can barely move, who have nothing else left but each other and the fight, hurting each other for the sake of a pointless war that should've ended a long time ago.

One thing I appreciate is the fact that both Snakes. Solid and Liquid are masters of CQC the fighting style cofounded by their father, yet each have their own distinct style. Liquid has a boxing type stance and used his right arm to land the heavy blows, Old Snake however has his own stance that's more akin to a grappling form, ready to grab/catch limbs rather than be ready for a punch with a fist, that and Solid Snakes clear preference to throwing kicks. Hell even Big Boss, and Venoms own way of using CQC was more akin to Judo, And other grappling forms, preferring to lock and choke rather than punch.. mostly anyways.
@GodDiggetyDoodle3 жыл бұрын
My guess they would throw 1 or 2 punches to disorient the enemy then grab them and choke them out
@shungokusatsulol2 жыл бұрын
Yeah big boss (and the boss) developed CQC as a way of silently taking down enemies. So grabs are the best way of finishing that fight. As time moved forward, big boss added more strikes as his personal goals moved to basically forming his own government and his fighting form evolved as well, I believe that Venom snake shows this of the best as he didn't need to be as stealthy and a show of force would be like free ads for diamond dog "hire us we are strong" solid snake on the other hand want to brake away from big boss as he felt betrayed by him and look for other ways of doing the job which is why his CQC has many more strikes then all the others, kicks in particular. Where as BB would use strikes to set up a grab and is actually not that great at defending vs grappling (compared to the other main CQC users) SS uses grabs to set up his combos for quick kos or separation to use a weapon but he show better defense vs grappling. Ocelot is strange but its like he tailors his CQC to his opponent. It makes sense as he is the super spy of the series and only truly learned of CQC after meeting BB and the boss (his mom) and after about 3 ass kicking learned how to be on par with BB and one ass kicking to be able to counter SS CQC. Basically he has the best or worst CQC out of all the main users depending on his experience fighting his opponent.

Niether lost, both won and completed their objectives. Both could not escape the burdens of their parents but neither wanted to anyhow. Ocelot died as his mother did, fooling everyone while undercover for the badguys. Guiding events to lead them to failure in an age of high technology and complete surveillance.

Growing up together we would watch/play this together. all the way from MGS1 to the end (MGS4). once we got here to this point the hairs on our body was standing up on end, pretty much begging for this not to be the end, watching snake grow old and dying.. this is real men fantasy. i grew up with all the action films, building and working on cars and bikes with dad. this was our down time, video games.
