I knew this couldn't be an early trailer for the first release of this game, because it has Raiden in it. Raiden was completely absent from the trailers or other media leading up to the first release of MGS2.

This is a trailer for "MGS2: Substance", not "MGS2: Sons Of Liberty". Substance was released a whole year after the base game and players by then were well aware of Raiden and btw. hated him for the most part. Never understood why, but they did.

@@Project_2501 They hated Raiden's existence, they were pissed off that you didn't get to play as snake for the whole game.

@@noobsensei5870 "I never understood why" was more of an ironical phrase. I know very well why people hated him, but there is really no reason to hate him. The original MGS2 Raiden was a great character, with a deep background and a a great arch (in contrast to many other MGS charaters or characters from other games with an even shallower story and intentions). And I don't know if you even played the game, but you in fact did play as Snake for well a third of the game until the makers made you think Snake was "dead". Everybody who still hated Raiden after the first play through didn't get the maker's intention. It was a take on constant media reboots and stealing off of original ideas to pervert them for the money and a reflection of the games own repetitive ways Konami forced onto Kojima. Raiden was a Snake ripoff in the beginning but developed to a character who was even to Snake himself by becoming Snake in a 1:1 scenario copy of MGS1, which was already a 1:1 copy of "Metal Gear: Solid Nake" which again was a 1:1 copy of "Metal Gear" - of course each time with a slightly different theme. They only broke the cylcle with MGS3.

The Substance content was... "interesting"... A lot alternate "reality" scenarios in there that didn't make any sense but sure were fun to play. VR missions that made us play as Cyborg Ninja Raiden and of course the skateboarding mode that made us the gift of the most awesome pop punk version of the MGS main theme.

You picked the wrong ending then. The Bad ending of MGS 1 when Meryl dies is not canon. The Canon version is that Snake resists the torture and Meryl survives.

Some thought it would be something it wasn't. They wanted the full fledged perspective game of Snake during MGS2 in Plant. The Snake Tales are good and I like them but it's clear they're made on a shoestring budget with the asset reusing and text screens.
