Two old men fist fighting. Technically over nothing, if Ocelot wins he definitely ain't gonna have the time or resources to make another plan, but symbolically over everything. They simply cannot allow the other to exist in this world, standing for everything the other fights against.
@ItsSpecialHands Жыл бұрын
It's not even that, Ocelot never planned to live to see the new world he fought for. He knows Snake and him have precious months left at best. To Ocelot, this is the most honourable ending for both of them, the way he believes Big Boss would have wanted it. That's why he injects Snake at the start.

Wasn’t he really a good guy anyway…or something like that

Ocelot already won. He got what he wanted. He was brilliant and succeeded in his goal. The last thing he wanted was one final duel with Snake
@LAVATORR8 ай бұрын
They don't want to win. They just need to be reassured they can still fight. There's this really surreal moment on Dragon's Den (Canadian Shark Tank) where this stoner hippie comes in to pitch.... whatever. It's dumb and useless and he doesn't even bother to talk numbers. And this infuriates Kevin O'Leary, the guy who never shuts up about numbers. The hippie replies that numbers are a means to an end, an instrument to achieve one's true goal. O'Leary retorts that he doesn't have a goal, he just lives in the moment and loves the chase, BOOM how's it feel to have your own hippie logic turned on you by capitalism "But if you're running, doesn't that entail being dissatisfied from where you stand?" The other Dragons quickly lose patience and say "I'm out." O'Leary says "hold on," tears off his microphone, chases down the hippie before he exists the building, and we see, over the security camera, him cutting the kid a check for $5,000, to do as he wishes. Then he goes back to being a dick on reality TV. Some people live for the fight, and will go to great lengths to ensure the fight doesn't end.

I absolutely love the thematic weight of this final fight. The war is over, GW is gone, the Patriots are dead, all the fighting has stopped. By all reasons, Liquid and Solid don't have any real reason to keep fighting. But they do anyways, only because they can. When you take away everything about war that makes it exciting, the technology, the glory, the causes, anything that would make younger men want to fight, you're just left with a couple of old men, fighting an old fight, just to settle an old grudge.

I love how with each phase, another bit of Liquid is taken away and you are facing more of Ocelot. Its like you are punching the Spirit of Liquid out of the Body of Ocelot eventually setting them both free to pass on separately...
@MrAxedead5 ай бұрын
Well at this point it's not even Liquid any more, it was Liquid in MGS2, but after that game Ocelot essentially hypnotized himself into thinking he was Liquid. That is also the reason he doesn't have Liquid's arm any more.

Everything about this is so perfectly Kojima: You get a six-hour cutscene of anime characters doing pro wrestling moves while shouting their motivations at each other, but then there's exactly one amazing moment where you finally get the story he wants to tell when he's not snapping pervy upskirt shots of imaginary women, and you think "man, this guy is a visionary 30% of the time".
