It blows my mind that people keep coming back to this video and share their thoughts. I'm grateful for all the compliments and critiques. I made this a long time ago when I didn't really know what to create and the quality shows, but a lot of you still like it regardless and that's really touching. I've shifted my channel to video essays/ discussions now, but I'll keep this video up for y'all who want to come back. Thanks fellas.

The music in metal gear has to be some of the best, highly emotional and nostalgic music ever in any game franchise. Even over the Halo theme. Hideo Kojima blew my mind when I was a young lad seeing my uncle and brother playing the games and the older I am now the more I truly appreciate just how masterful this series actually is. One of the most loyal fan base such a shame we may never see MGS again.

I really like this, in my personal opinion I enjoy the first three chronological games (metal gear solid 3, peace walker and 5) better than the other games because I just really like Naked snake and Venom snake as characters in comparison to the clones.

Missing canonical games: MG2: Solid Snake, MPO and MGR. Can understand if Rising is not included in this as it was set after the whole Patriots era as it is a brand new story set after MGS4, bearing less relations to previous games, but set in the same timeline.

Not at all, I prefer Solid Snake not just above Big Boss but above every single video game character. I understand why people prefer Big Boss but those same people tend to neglect and forget Solid Snake's development, determination and loyalty to the job. I believe (my opinion) that Solid Snake is the only true Snake to surpass Big Boss which is what Liquid and Solidus tried so hard to do but failed. He is the man who makes the impossible possible.

Very well commented, I understand exactly where you're coming from and how it would make him a more likable character than Solid to the majority of MGS fans. Big Boss is my second favourite character of all time for those exact reasons. Solid is much more than what he is presented in the games. What makes him so compelling to me is how different he is to Solidus, Liquid and Big Boss himself. He was created, stripped of his humanity and freedom for the sole purpose of being a pawn for the patriots. Manipulated and betrayed by his advisers and by his own commander Big Boss which had taken a huge toll on him and you can see that by the time Metal Gear Solid 1's events take place. Solid Snake wanted to retire and live a life but couldn't because killing his own father and best friend was so traumatic that he couldn't escape the nightmares and ended up drinking too much in Alaska as a musher. Solid Snake was used, broken down, betrayed and even labeled a criminal after saving the world in Shadow Moses. His personality reflects this. What makes this so compelling to me is how Solid slowly became human throughout the series and we can see that when we jump to MGS2 and see him and Otacon as close friends, fighting together at their own expense, own ideals, oblivious to what they ended up doing which was realise the Boss's will through Philanthrophy as a free soldier. Despite being constantly fucked over there was never a moment where he walked away from the job, he fought till the very end and was the only Snake to achieve what the other 3 Snakes had gave their lives and their humanity for, freedom. This is only partly the reasoning behind why Solid appeals to me most.

Like I said, I haven't played portable ops yet, and I didn't intend to fit all the metal gear games here, I missed out on Metal Gear 2 : Solid Snake as well and that's a key game to the franchise. I just added the footage I have on the games I have played. I wanted to steer away from using the art cinematics (except Metal Gear 1 because you can't put 8bit gameplay on a tribute) Nevertheless thanks for watching :)

Unfortunately it's not a graphic novel. But damn a graphic novel should be done with the original metal gear. The footage is from a fan remake of metal gear that got a lot of attention around the world and eventually got cancelled by Konami.

It's very much canon, except for a few elements and side missions within the game. The core story is pretty important to the franchise, covering a lot of essential points that would affect games set later in the canon. The foundation of FOXHOUND, Big Boss acquiring funds to form MSF in Peace Walker, his conflict with a young Gray Fox, his relationship with Roy Campbell, locating the other half of the Philosopher's Legacy which was missing in Snake Eater and finally, the foundation of the Patriots while giving us a hint of the true founder of the Patriots, who would be revealed in Guns of the Patriots as Zero. Just because it wasn't directed by Kojima doesn't mean its not canon.
