You'll come across bands like In Flames, Scar Symmetry, At The Gates, Soilwork, Solution .45, Sonic Syndicate, The Unguided, among countless other amazing bands that helped influence metal music in ways that most aren't aware. I am stunned that Alestorm haven't sailed across your horizon before. Never assume metal and being serious have to go together, or mean there must be a compromise, especially if they are British. Once not giving a damn about what people think of you it frees you to be more creative and go as far as you want. Try the original WTF? metal band "Lawnmower Deth", with such classics as "Sheep-dip, Maim Mower Maim, Did you Spill My Pint ?, Oooooooooh Crikey !", and who could forget the evergreen "Satan's Trampoline". Tongue firmly wedged into the cheek, but no compromise in the brutal punk/metal music. Still going strong today.
