Have seen them like five or six times and every time was an absolutely breathtaking experience. In two weeks I'm going to Gent to see them on their ground. Cannot entirely believe it 🤩

I discovered Amenra first in I think 2017 or '18. And I was totally blown away. I was going through very hard times back then and their music helped me a lot. As another music critic put it once: "Their music ripped me apart, to then put me back together." I've been to their concerts twice since then. Which was nice. But 1.5 years ago, I attended their acoustic concert in a church in Bochum, Germany. This was sooo amazing! They had almost no lights on the stage. It was mostly in dark. You barely couldn't see the band. The audience was really quiet. You could feel the tension in the room. There were no weekend morons, who just went out to drink some beers and spontaneously decided to drop in and see, who might be playing that evening. No. Everybody knew, why they were there, what to expect. Everyone there was highly dedicated. This whole thing didn't feel like a simple concert. It was a fucking ritual! If you ever get the chance to experience their acoustic set: GO! It's like a life changing experience!

I love Amenra. The word that you used and I always use to describe them is « authentic » and some people don’t even know what that means until they hear Amenra. You can tell they do everything with a purpose. Their art, their covers show an eclectic taste and that really stands out in a metal scene that many times lacks originality and creativity. Great video. Thanks for sharing.

The compilation with Sofie Verdoodt you talk about on 4:30 is in fact a 7" where Amenra provides music on 2 of her poems... She lives in Ghent and is, besides being a member of the unofficial Goth community and a real Nico-aficionado, a professor in performance arts and film ànd an award winning poet. She writes in Dutch in a very own style. Her bundles Doodwater (Dead Water) and Anker Kruis Hart (Anchor Cross Heart) are real gems. Some years ago she was also the artistic director of Art Cinema OFFoff, concluding her time there with a Nico-special (Andy Warhol, Philippe Garrel , ...) of the annual Night of the Experimental Film... The songs from the 7" with Amenra, September and Buiten Datum, can also be found on the livealbum Alive...

@@JoWinters She's also a very great cat lover... Some 20 years ago we had an online community in Flanders (and The Netherlands) called Gothweb, then Blackweb... People who were in the scène but did not met IRL came to know each other and your circle boomed... Her name there was Puss in Boots and her love for Cats, Nico (and Coil, Current 93, ...) and Poetry was very clear... Little did we (nor she) know where the road may lead her... ;-) She's an interesting person, indeed, but foremost she is a lovely person, in a véry calm way...

If you like Amenra, go hear one of the side project of the singer and guitarist, with Igor Cavalera and someone else who was in Neurosis (but is not in Absent in body neither). The project is called Absent in Body , the album Plague God. It's a bit more extreme and industrial. One of my favorite album from 2022

My wet dream is still having a double bill of Amenra and Fields of the Nephilim. Both bands do have a loyal following, which is always good for the atmosphere, and both bands do approach their concerts as a sacred happening. FotN calls them Ceremonies, Amenra rather use the word Rituals... Now thàt wopuld make a great tour...!! If Fields of the Nephilim is not copping out, that is...

Flemisch is not a language, the language si called Dutch.
@JoWinters5 ай бұрын
You’re right. I should have said “dialect” instead!
@deno73433 ай бұрын
Flemish person here... You are right : Flemish is not a proper language with it's own set of rules for grammar. It is the name used for the dialects spoken in the southern Dutch speaking parts of Europe. In fact, before 1830 Flanders was a part of The United Netherlands before the Revolution that would lead to the formation of Belgium, which added Flanders as it's northern part. Flemish persons make fun about other Flemish dialects. When Colin talks you can hear he's from the Westhoek (Kortrijk, where the Battle of the Gulden Spurs took place in 1302), when he sings it is in Dutch...
@13tuyutiАй бұрын
@@JoWintersthe lyrics aren't really in dialect but in fairly standard Dutch. The band's own dialect is one that other Flemish and Dutch people make make fun of for being hard to understand.
