Holy shit, you guys actually have AMENRA on here! Yes! Please ask Brutus, another great Belgian band (Post-Hardcore/Post-Rock) for a rig rundown as well! Please, please, please! I‘d also love Oathbreaker but they‘re almost disbanded as far as I heard. Thank you so much for this episode!

Amenra, one of post metal's finest. Huge live sounds. I just wish we got to see the other members too, their old bass player had a very filthy sound

Lennart is a really underrated guitar player - Amenra and Oathbreaker are juggernauts in their genres
@DWD-XD3 жыл бұрын
I've been a low key fanboy of Lennart from the days he was still in Janez Detd (2004). Every project he's been involved in has such an amazing variety of guitar riffs and sounds. He's truely one of the best and most versatile 'heavy' guitar players in Belgium. Been waiting for years for a rig rundown of him and I could watch him play for hours.

There's something refreshing about this guy play. He plays like me and that's so comforting because most of the guitarists i watch are so far beyond my abilities. And this just shows me that even at my skill level, you can play great

DADGAD type tunings is so great for this style of music. I've used CGCFGC a lot.
@DoominMacGruber3 жыл бұрын
So Drop tuning? Amenra, I thought, play exclusively in B standard but he mentioned the other two tunings like u said. I think those are more for their acoustic material?
@nicholainissen3 жыл бұрын
@@DoominMacGruber Yeah, no. DADGAD is not a drop tuning, that would be DADGBE. This tuning is made for playing chords with open drone strings, sort of like bagpipe music, which is also why it's popular in celtic music.
@Auspexgetchell3 жыл бұрын
Started using this tuning after hearing Mike Sullivan from Russian Circles mention it. I tune to B, but this tuning rules with the open sounds and easy octaves
@Astral_Wave3 жыл бұрын
@@nicholainissen dadgad is an alternate tuning, but it's also a drop tuning since you're dropping the low E down a whole step. And like they said, they tune B standard in this band, but oathbreaker does use drop tunings, but not "dadgad intervals" of any kind that I'm aware of, however I'm in no way an expert on this guy or any of his projects, but completely agree with your opinion on dadgad's in general.
@Astral_Wave3 жыл бұрын
@@Auspexgetchell John Browne (flux conduct, monuments) also uses this "tuning interval" a lot, if not exclusively. Not a big fan of his projects, mostly because of the vocals, but his first Flux Conduct record is instrumental and tuned dadgad. I believe Tesseract also use this intervalic relationship as well, but tuned Bb/A.

It would been cool to check out Tim (awesome production) and Mathieu's rigs but a glimpse of the heavy and sad sounds of Amenra is still great. Can't wait for the new album!
@Mindartcreativity3 жыл бұрын
In the past, Mathieu used a Gibson Les Paul Custom, a JCM 800 set cleanish on low input with a Mesa 412. For distortion he used a Proco Turbo Rat, a Boss delay and a Line 6 DL4. There’s an old video about him here on YT. Now he might be using a Lichtlaerm Audio Ritual as distortion. Lichtlaerm Audio is a German one-man company and he did a highly modified Rat with multiple clipping options and boost, the Ritual, that started as a custom-ordered pedal to replicate the sound of Amenra and Daniel, the guy behind Lichtlaerm ended up getting Amenra‘s blessing and Mathieu might be using it now himself which I think is pretty cool and speaks for the quality of that pedal. I have a distortion/pre-amp pedal by Lichtlaerm and I love that thing!
@@Mindartcreativity The Lichtlaerm stuff is awesome. I have a V1 Altar and am seriously thinking about buying the updated version for all the new features on it. Great sounds, extremely solidly built, and also a great visual aesthetic.

Love those dissonant chord progressions! Also great sound, heavy and growling, dark and sparkly at the same time. What is the secret to preserve that string separation and clarity despite the heavy distortion?
@Astral_Wave3 жыл бұрын
Nice pickups that aren't overly wound (vintage spec rather than modern high output). He may also be running both amps at the same time, so the clean amp would be providing clean clarity in tandem with the distorted ampeg (I'm just guessing). Technique also plays some factor , damping the low notes slightly with pick hand, as opposed to muting entirely, when picking higher notes in the arpeggio 🤷

What happens to the twin when he plays the heavy parts with the Marshall and the Ampeg? Does it still sound clean? Does it turn off? Does it sound with the providence distortion? And the same question with the other two amps when he plays the clean parts. Do all amps sound for clean and dirty tones?
@MissYaBigMan3 жыл бұрын
He says the pedal switcher also switches which output he's using, so there's no signal to the Twin for his heavier tone and vice versa.

Great rig rundown for a fantastic guitar sound! One thing I don`t understand is how .056 is playable in B tuning? I have problems with .056 in drop-C keeping tone, sustain and making it sound good. (ESP eclipse w stock EMGs and wrap around).

Watched a rig rundown with Matheiu Vandekerckhove (kzbin.info/www/bejne/e2GmZIp6bqyDsKs) where he says that he uses a string set with .062. Sounds like it`s more playable in B tuning :)
