Metal is in the healthiest place it's been since early '90s, imo. Sure, it's not filling stadiums aside from festivals outside of Metallica and Iron Maiden, but in terms of metal being recognized in the mainstream, Forbes have ranked lists of top metal artists and albums which are better than Loudwire's, Gojira performed at the Olympics, Jimmy Kimmel will have Knocked Loose and Poppy performing Suffocate on his show this week leading up to the Grammys which they have a nomination for, Spiritbox are almost universal after their Cobra collaboration with Megan Thee Stallion, Falling In Reverse have Jelly Roll on a single, Sleep Token and Babymetal reach international crowds as no one else, most of the upcoming massive rock festival lineups are nearly half metal artists, and metal streams and sales are increasing substantially overall this year. It's a different case than twenty years ago when the best metal was doing was a few Nu-Metal and Metalcore bands being played on MTV and Ozzfest, Download, and Rock am Ring being the only notable metal festivals, much broader and more beneficial to the entire metal community and a lot of artists being brought up equally. We're great, about to be amazing, I feel.
@eliarre1007Ай бұрын
If anybody thinks metal died in 2024, I recommend to check out your local, more underground bands than these very popular ones. I myself listen to bunch of newer artsits of Polish metal scene (and attend to their shows as well) and they mostly go for oldschool-like sound, there's many thrash, speed, death and black metal bands :) They often take inspiration from our country's legends like Kat or Turbo. German thrash scene is also pretty cool. And if you like doom - listen to Castle Rat. So yeah, fresh metal scene is in pretty good condition, just find something more niche than Ice Nine Kills or Infected Rain if you don't like direction these kind of bands take.

Metal isn’t dying, it just isn’t popular anymore due to one thing that I’ve noticed over the years, the metal scene hasn’t been innovative at all , im not saying that the songs are bad , all the contrary there’s plenty of good songs that have come out, but the issue is that you can here song that came out 10 years ago and listen to one from now they sound that they could have come out the same year, unlike the evolution of rock that they’re are clear distinctions from rock and metal from the 60s to the 70s to the 80s 90s and early 2000s afterwards there’s been little to no innovation in the sound in rock and metal music

I can only agree. I've been listening to metal since 2004 and I've been through older and newer bands and a lot of them just sound the same or very similar as older ones and leave the "where did I hear something similar before?" feeling.
