Nice idea Jimmy, we'll made.👍👍 I would suggest that you get some old rags, towels or old tee shirts to cover your lathe bed. To minimize the sanding grit on you ways. Looks like a good way to clean up shaft material. Thanks for sharing. Have a great day.👍👍

Yes Ed, I had to be careful to protect the lathe from abrasive dust but because of the heat in the workshop I am no longer interested in this. I just wanted to get out of there as quickly as possible. Even the video camera was telling me that it was shutting down because of the heat:)) I usually work at night only this time it wasn't like that. Thanks for the comment and have a great day too. 👍

@@JIMMY916 Sorry to hear that it has been hot there. Hot here also. Fortunately I have A/C . Without it, it would be over 100F in the shop. Take care, Ed. 👍👍

G’day mate and greetings from Tasmania Australia 🇦🇺 that was a nice introduction to your sight, I don’t know if you have already done it but in relation to the band saw take the small plate off it and just make sure the gears line up and it has plenty of grease in it. I have subscribed and look forward to watching your channel regards John

Hi John. No, I have never greased the band saw gear and will do so today thanks to your suggestion. I am honored by your appreciation and I am very happy when I converse with people like you. Thank you !

You were right, my friend. The grease of my band saw was stuck to the walls of the gear box and was as dry as dried salt varnish. I think your advice saved me a not cheap tool. It is a not an old band saw. It has been a year since I bought it. My luck is that I don't use it often. Thank you again ! God bless you.

I enjoyed the video thank you. To turn a cutting tool upside down is to rotate the cutter 180 degrees horizontally so the insert is facing downwards to the floor instead of up to the roof and have the lathe operate in reverse (backwards).

Now I understand. Unfortunately, this is not possible for my lathe. In my case, the carbide insert would be too low from the center point and I have no possibility to adjust this. Thank you very much for your idea and for your time !

Good video. At 10:14. You should put back the safety gard on the crossslide that protect you from chips. Also the safety gard above the chuck should be placed back. Savety classes is a must. Remember .... "safety first" If the material breaks loos when turning.... you realy won't this to happen. Make soft shaws from a peace of thin copper and put those arond the claws. It protect the soft material. When turning soft material try put up the rpm maybe to arond 800 rpm. It turns a lot easyer. The material is very forgiven. You shoud use a hook take the birtsnest away, With every new peace material..... 1) facing 2) centerdrill. These two are the fundemental things that come first. When turning metal Perhaps WD40 instead of oil. Lock the topslide. It give more rigidity.

I thought of using a safety gard but It's protection is almost zero. It's very tiny and flexible. It would only have protected me from chips. (probably). 1) facing 2) centerdrill. You are right. When you learn something rong, it is very difficult to correct it. Sometimes I remember the rule you say, sometimes not.Thats what happens when you learn on your own without having a clue of what is right and what is wrong. Thank you very much for your comment !

Whenever you are using abrasives make sure you cover your lathe's ways with something and do a good cleaning when done. The grit is really bad for your ways as it will score them. I cover my mill and lathe ways when I use my belt/disc sander or cutoff wheels/dremel. Nice build :)

Because of the heat in the workshop, I had to postpone the test but my curiosity was greater. I knew it wasn't good but at the moment but all I wanted was to finish as soon as possible. After this test the lathe cleaning was very well done ( in the cool of the night ). But yes, you're right. I always have to keep in mind the protection of the tools and machines I work with. Thank you very much for your comment !

With plastic you are pretty much screwed. A BIG vacuum might help but everybody I know just puts up with the mess. Heavier cuts and slower spindle speeds helps.

So Just finished watching your video. At work we have a handheld belt sander (1” wide, about 2’ long) for polishing in the lathe. I have seen some for sale that you can clamp in a tool holder as well, that is what my dad used for finishing rifle barrels.

Can you please give more details ? Or a link where it is for sale ? Thank you !

It was on Alibaba, a machinery company in India. It would be pretty easy to build.

Have you tried cutting in reverse with the tool upside down.... I found that taking deep cuts gives a more controllable chip that would possibly get sucked into a vacuum hose if required? I dont know if there is a foolproof method to machine this stuff.
@JIMMY916
@JIMMY916 2 ай бұрын
Yes, I think that deep cuts can be the solution, but this method also has its shortcomings. And indeed, a vacum cleaner is mandatory, but an industrial one ( I'm not sure that it doesn't clog and that one ). The domestic one gets clogged. Please tell me what you mean by ”with the tool upside down” ? Thank you very much !

@@philoso377 This will prevent wrapping ? Hm. I think what you say makes sense. The first should be the vacuum cleaner.Thank you !
