Josh's tone is the perfect blend of that classic 90s metal and today's modern tone. Chuggy thickness that's deep while being precise and clear.

Love all your early/mid 2000's style guitar tones throughout your videos. Those were the best in my opinion and I could often pick albums out from hearing the guitars. Sneap, Richardson and the more modern guys like Suecof and Lewis nail this sound and I still gravitate towards that. Thanks for providing such a wealth of knowledge on this mixing style Josh, it seems to be dying out amongst the modern stuff.

Josh love these videos and seeing your process. What are the chances of us getting to see you use MDL drums on a mix outside of your normal wheelhouse? I feel like that would be a great video showcasing not only the versatility of the drums but how certain concepts could be applied across genres.

It would be very very nice if you would sell a project in reaper with your drums and guitar and bass mixet and mastered, just some standard trash riffs and solo just to better see how you do it. I know we have to buy the same apps as you to get the same sound but it would be so much easier for some with adhd as my self and not 100% good at english. And thnx for the videos, you are serious good at playing/singing and mixing and so on. :)

Josh what's your opinion on quantizing/warping guitar tracks when recording?
@JoshMiddletonOfficialАй бұрын
Totally against it. Sounds super weird to me and really obvious. Also, anyone who has a lot of experience with DI tracks knows the big spike you see on the waveform isn't actually the start of the note, the initial pick attack is a lot quieter and most DAWs will edit to the 'bloom' of the note and not the pick attack. I'm all for editing guitars if it gets a tight end result, but I'd rather get more takes, record in smaller sections and manually edit/comp. That's what I do when I'm tracking guitarists who are writing material above their ability level
@Jack-bv3zgАй бұрын
Where can I get these impulse responses? Are they part of your STL amphub pack?

Do you think it makes a difference to have one eq after another? I do the same thing and to me it sounds better, but i always feel weird about it like im doing something wrong
@JoshMiddletonOfficialАй бұрын
I usually end up stacking them on top of one another. Especially if I think I've got a mix in a good place and don't want to mess with where it's at. Adding a new EQ that you can remove and AB against is fine I think.
@dfgvjnkjdsnbkjsbdvjkhdsbАй бұрын
why can't u create presets mix ready?
@JoshMiddletonOfficialАй бұрын
I think I just assume not everyone has all the same plugins as me. And if you do, you can easily copy the settings from these vids. The Fabfilter bundle is pretty expensive as it is. Interested to hear what percentage of people have all the plugins I use which is the only way I could make a mix template worthwhile: Metric Halo Channel Strip Fabfilter Complete Bundle Waves L-1 Flatline 2 STL Tonality Josh Middleton STL AmpHub Soothe Amplified Instrument Processor Waves SSL bus comp Slate Everything Bundle Brainworx SSL 4000 E Gain Reudction Neural Darkglass + Parallax BozLabs Big Beautiful Door

@Blackriff99Ай бұрын
@@JoshMiddletonOfficial I’ve currently got everything except 4 of those (metric halo, amphub, amplified instrument processor, big beautiful door)
@Blackriff99Ай бұрын
@@dfgvjnkjdsnbkjsbdvjkhdsb the post processing EQ he does in videos like this are relative to the specific drum and bass mix, in addition to any master bus processing. Unfortunately, presets don’t fully work in everyone’s mixes because people have such different setups, guitars, and playing styles. You can get “relatively safe” presets, but they still need help to work against a specific backdrop.
@dhplaygroundАй бұрын
@@Blackriff99100% correct, but... most people mix drums, bass then guitars, Josh tends to do guitars first, bass then drums, in his mixes, so he kind of mixes the bass and drums to fit his guitar mix.
