An underrated masterpiece of music on KZbin, no matter the genre including classical. Great reaction! Thanks.

These guys (and girl) are insanely talented and deserve more recognition. Can't wait for shit to open back up and hopefully see them live

This is melodic, melancholy, soothing AND terrifying. How is THAT done?

Spiritbox always has some sort of eerie 'noise' backing track that adds a ton of extra depth to their sound

They presented this master piece in 3 parts. The Mara Effect 1,2,3. They made official videos for part 1 and 3 and a visualizer for part 2. Check the Beauty of suffering from the same EP.

Yes, but do the live vocal version of that song too, because it has a better mix (especially on the vocals) than the EP recording. Also because Courtney is awesome!

It's actually 3 separate songs but they're all companion pieces so they played them together here.

Thanx for reacting to my favourite femal fronted band! My favourite one take song of them is "The beauty of suffering" I would love to see your reaction to this one.

He uses backing tracks to for the second guitar and he uses a kemper which allows him to di to the audio interface that is capturing the recording. Also this is live but it is polished in post via a mixing and mastering process. All that said, it all starts with a fucking killer performance from killer musicians who know their shit!

They are amazing,, my second favorite band after Jinjer, managed to see them live in Vienna right before the lockdown. There’s of course some other really good bands with female vocalists. Try Monochromatic Black, song “Phosphenes” , official video Vintersea from Portland , their song “Illuminated “ o Entheos from California, their band play through of “Inverted Earth/Sunshift “ Chaney Crabb is the singer and she’s a really close friend with Courtney Laplante from Spiritbox. And one of my recent discoveries: Dawn of Ouroboros from California, their song “ Sorrow’s Eclipse “ Chelsea Murphy, their vocalist, has also a one take vocal performance of their song “Pinnacle Induced Vertigo “ is quite something. Expect some high level musicianship from these bands Cheers from Norway bro!

Best Band Ever Hands Down. The talent and the way that Mike and Courtney work together is something I just have not seen done before. My second fav band is Lacuna Coil they have some amazing stuff too! I would also recommend you (If you haven't already done so) check out Tesseract - Concealing Fate. Very similar to this in length and epicness and I think that we are starting to see bands come out that were influenced by early Djent founding bands.

First "new" band that has come along in a very long time that immediately hooked me from the first listen. I think the last time this happened was hearing Mudvayne's LD 50 for the first time, like 20 years ago

On the time signatures, let me know what you think. The first segment, through 9:45, I believe the time signature is 3/4 or, better, 6/4, with maybe an odd measure or two thrown in during the scream starting around 7:15. The vocals seem off beat during the scream but everyone’s back to 6/4 to sing. On the second segment, starting 10:20, where you were commenting on it, I couldn’t get it listening to the drummer either. But listen to the vocals and guitars and I think you’ll find its 4/4 or, better, 8/4. The guitarist starts his descending 3 notes (just to further confuse the ear on the time signature…) every 8 beats, and her vocals follow that. But the drummer, in his brilliance, is doing something super-complicated that may or may not be the same signature. You would never be able to figure out beat 1 from the drummer-it’s the guitar. At 11:07, they throw in a couple odd measures, but by 11:11, the guitars are back on 8/4 with a different rhythm, and at 11:14 she comes in on beat 1. You can pick out beat 1 from the vocals for a while, but the drummer is with them on recognizable 8/4 at this point, though not emphasizing beat 1. At about 11:38, her vocals stop marking beat 1 but the guitarists seem to keep the same beat. Drums are again doing their own thing. By 12:06, she comes back to marking beat 1 for us with her vocals, and the guitarist’s 3 note pattern returns. The drummer is even on 8/4 then. You paused after the drummer went off on his own at 12:36. But I think the rest of the band is still unchanged on 8/4. Amazing. I can’t remember ever hearing a song where I wondered if the drummer and the rest of the band were on different signatures. So far ahead of their time? (no pun intended) The next segment starts at 14:26 and it seems like the drummer is on 4/4 or 8/4, but you’d never get that from the guitarist. Vocals seem to follow the drum. When that awesome scream starts at 14:56, everyone is together on an easily-recognized 4/4. First time for everything. The next segment starts at 16:22, I wonder if guitarist and drummer are alternating 6 beat/8 beat??? Maybe an odd measure thrown in. She starts singing at 16:36 on that alternating pattern I think. At 17:20, they’re back on 4/4 to 17:56, at which point they go to something else-probably with some odd beats--through your break until 18:49 when they seem to be together on a 4/4 or 8/4 beat again to the end-though the vocals go off beat with the scream….Which I have to admit totally adds to the effect! She repeats every 6 beats. You laughed in amazement about that point. I agree. Thanks for mentioning the time signature! Caused me to do this analysis. If it takes two hours and four paragraphs to figure it out, you know you have a masterpiece of musical brilliance on your hands! Reminds me of Tool with their impossible time signatures. Fun to try to figure out! The song jumped from Epic to a friggin’ Masterpiece in my mind after this.

11:18 btw pretty sure this section stays in 4/4 but the drummer goes into half time in a few of those bars to mix things up
@chincevideos9233 жыл бұрын
they LOVE to do this, sometimes halftime sometimes double time - sometimes accents early for a phrase then end the phrase where everything lines up with the backbeat when you can continually bop your head the same tempo for the entire length of this while they dance around time signatures is so satisfying edit: i dont really understand the actual theory though - just think its a solid backbeat that they weave in and out of throughout

I discovered this song this morning, and came here to see if you had reacted to it. You didn't disappoint at all. I agree this is an epic song worthy of being on everyone's top 10. What a band! I can't figure out why the official videos, almost 3 years after release, haven't hit a million views yet. We need to be talking up Spiritbox. They deserve a lot more visibility.

I was waiting to see your face at the end when Courtney starts screaming "My skin crawls, my chest heaves, punish me" and you didn't disappoint. Epic for sure. I discovered Spiritbox on KZbin from reaction/review videos and they are now one of my favorite bands. I have listened to this particular performance over 50+ times now and it still gets me every time. They are phenomenal musicians. I'm an amateur drummer but I can't keep up with all the time signature changes in this song lol. I'm glad you enjoyed it and I enjoyed watching you enjoy it. Thx!

I think it's live the way the Jinjer Pisces video was live. I think there are additional layers both with guitar and vocals.
@DegraTrip4 жыл бұрын
I don't think so. The Pisces video was still pretty much the studio version while they're performing. This is live with since some backing.

They do have a backing track that plays some backing guitar, the actual spiritbox playing/samples etc etc. Some backing vocals and whatnot.

You know, Jinjer has some complicated time signatures too. They alternate 3/4 & 4/4 a lot. Maybe its a female scream/singer band thing!? But I think Jinjer's drummer is usually emphasizing beat 1 so its easier to pick out.
