I am not sure its possible to NOT become a fan of IU if you watch a number of her songs, concert, live and/or MV. I can't tell you how many reactors I have watched their 1st reaction to her who would include the phrase itil's not the type of music I normally listen to or sonething similar (as if you can listen to 1 IU song and know what her music type is), they will also comment on her vocals, her stage presents and her visuals. But if they watch just a few more they all invariably come to be fans and with each song becone more impress with her vocal talent and abilities, and her ability to draw you into the song. She puts on a show but does rely on spectacle (meaning overly flashy effects during her songs or selling sexuality (versus sensuality) in her costumes etc. Below are a few links to her some of her most iconic concert and live performances, including the 1st song she wrote that was released in 2011 became a top 10 hit and returned to the top 10 after her concert performance was released as a video in 2019. Her most covered songs Love Poem, Dear Name and My Sea, her last Seoul concert of her Love Poem tour after she had heard the news of Goo Hara's passing, her strughle to finish the song and her talk with the audience to taje care of eachother, love each other more and that she was wortued about them. This was her last song of her Love Poem concert in Seoul then the pandemic. The Golden Hour concert was the 1st concert post pandemic in Sept of 2022 where she opened with a modified version of Eight. Note: she became the 1st Korean female singer to headline a concert at the Olympic stadium in Seoul, where 90,000 tickest sold out in 30 minutes with just under 500,000 waiting in the queue. Yes you are correct, IU is having a lot of freedom. Her agency has huge faith in her, any decision/direction (songs, albums, release dates, concert venues, promos, tour dates etc) always thru discussion with her and gets her approval. And that's absolutely a good thing, she can explore whatever music that she wants 👌

She seems to have a lot of creative control over her music. I recommend her interview with Suga on Suchwita where they discussed her music and process a bit.
@michaelfoley5295
@michaelfoley5295 7 ай бұрын
She took over creative control of her music in late 2013. When she basically formed a new company EDAM where her manager got 25% of the stock and IU got something like 22.5% and Karako(?) invested the rest in 2018 I think, she became the creative force although she hired an outstanding group of people to surround her, from the music director, band(s) etc. You will notice slight differences in her songs depending on location and other factors. Sometimes the difference are so very slight it's hard to even pick up on them.

I know what you mean, I also tend to categorize groups/singers in my mind as they are like this person or that group but I am having a hard time comparing her to anyone either. I will say, she doesn't really feel like kpop for me as much. More like indie singer/songwriters I have listened to over the years. The closest I could thing of is maybe Lana Del Rey or Ellie Goulding? She doesn't sound like either of them but she's got that vibe of being pop (or kpop) adjacent but still very much their own sound. An indie sound that attracts her own audience but would still be accessible to a mainstream audience. Which is probably why she's so huge. I really liked this song and the live stage absolutely gave indie girl vibes.

I was going to actually say Laufey, just really outside the box kind of music that it doesnt really fit, and I know that its not really right to just say everything is KPop, and I dont even really feel like she is either

@@Killdeer25 Yeah mid 2000s I listened to a lot of female indie singers with this ethereal, electro pop but somehow also folk and loungey vibe that do remind me of her. Laufey I hadn’t heard of but just now checked out and it’s very similar. Goldfrapp is another one. Emiliana Torrini as well. As usual, I keep finding new genres within kpop that I never expected to find! 🙂

@@Killdeer25 Every time I thought I had a down beat I kept slipping, really very cool. Jimin did this with Serendipity, you're lost for the opening / first verse of the song, and it makes perfect sense! But the biggest bait & switch was in For Us by V, ooof!

As I mentioned before, sometimes her voice sounds like a whisper even when she's clearly not whispering, I don't know how she does it but I love it. This is definitely one of those songs of hers where a live version makes it stand out how her vocals sometimes overlap from one section to the next, which obviously can't really be replicated live without backing track, which is fine of course but gives a different experience from the studio version; not in a bad way! Just different 😊 A while back I had listened to a live version of one of her songs so much that when I heard the studio version I was like "ohh right _this_ is how that transition sounds on the album" 😅 When it comes to being a technically strong singer, well I also won't claim she's the best in the world because that's a big claim, but let's just say you haven't heard everything by her yet 😉
@Killdeer25

I can totally see what you mean, the actual amount of power needed to do that is rather significant honestly, yeah most of the time Backing tracks do not bother me, if that is what you intend your music to sound like then you got to trust the artist I look forward to be absolutely floored again and again! its already been a wild ride!

This Jam Jam is a lil bit different from actual arrangement, the original has more "techno" touch. Also street said the composer of this song actually want to make this an accoustic song, lol. you can see another live version in here: https: //youtu *be/FAI2wj2JGCI?si=zFSxgUPHtnwgMyjN&t=210 And I agree abt the "fan feeling" lol. Actually in that year (2019), she already achieved that "superstar" level, so she didnt need to impress anyone anymore. Ppl/ fans in that KSPO dome (14.000 audience x 2 night) is already thankful they can be there and watch her :)
