If you make a buck its all ways better to save it, one never knows when a buck is needed ! Old foundries had tradesmen that built works of art in wood, valves, gears etc etc .These methods you are showing sure have my full attention.

I was planning on making a wire buck for my 2020 Trans-Am concept, I did custom metal fabrication back in my younger years so it seemed like a logical decision, I tried an MDF buck for a Mountain bike and humidity just warped it by epic proportions. Great video and I did learn to make the fenders as a pair which was helpful

Great video Wray. It’s cool for me to watch because I have seen all these bucks in your shop. I was in the class with the guy from the Midwest that made the international mdf fender buck. I think his name was Jim. It was January 2010. It’s amazing that on KZbin so many people can see how talented you are. You are also innovative and always willing to let go of “the way we always did it” and adapt to a newer and better way. You have reinvented so many things in the 10 years that I have know you. You Wrock Wray

Wray, thanks for sharing your knowledge on metal shaping. these videos are extremely helpful to inexperienced fabricators. when you begin your demonstrations on using the various bucks to create a panel can you please send time explaining where to put the seams and why. as a beginner i find it quite difficult to decide how many pieces to break a panel into. thanks.

Another great video Wray! I'm looking forward to this series and more of your innovative ideas. Maybe you can also do a series that describes in detail your process of using your large drawing board and magnetic strips to recreate full scale shapes from old photos? I saw a short segment on it in an earlier video but would really like to see the whole process if possible.

We are developing plans for a lot more expansion of Wray Schelin's KZbin channel ProShaper Workshop. Please help spread the word to other car guys what we offer. Financial help can come from clicking my links to my website proshaper.com (metalshaping tools) or my Tee-Spring (t-shirts, hats, etc) or my Amazon store link (lots of items I use in the videos are listed). All of the links are right there at everyone of my videos. Sometimes you have to hit (more info, or the scroll down button to see them) Thanks, Wray

I have a 75 Corvette metal structure and doors. The plan is to build a wire form body, possibly on just half of it and then form the metal. I was thinking that I could use your paper patten' to make the other half. Not sure which way would be best.
@proshaper3 жыл бұрын
Hi James, I'm assuming you have a Corvette chassis and you intend to build a original design new aluminum body on it. If that is correct, I would suggest you first do full scale drawings of the new body. You'll need side view, top view, front view, and rear view. From the drawings make a complete wireform. Also study the super leggera body inner structure technique using bent 3/4" steel tubing as the inner structure for the aluminum panels.

I just finished building a English wheel I’ve used it on a few test panels I bought the metal ace kit I built my frame from 4x6 I beam and plated it with 1/4x6 flat bar It works so awesome I’m hooked for life I’m building a power hammer onto the side of my English wheel So it will end up as a work station I love how much detail you put into your videos Wray I’d love to send some pics of what I’ve built Do you have any info on the 550 spyder I want to build my own buck initially j was planning mdf I know how you feel about that I’ve even been thinking on selling bucks as a kit Where can I get a good digital model My idea is to use a 48” printer plotter print out the profile Glue it to wood and cut it out Adding holes for windows as I go

There's a lot to be said for thin flat stock to help with the fairing. I developed pretty much all of the lines on my speedster with some 12' lengths of 1/8" x 1" aluminum.

Always good to see something being done from the start . Although i can see the purpose of wooden bucks , if you work in steel or alloy why would you want to become a wood butcher , just my thoughts , stick with the medium your most comfortable with.

Mr. Schelin, I'm starting off as a shaper, couple hammers, a dolly and leather bag. I've been forming some 16 gauge, figuring it would be forgivable for my experience level. I would like to hand planish this to knock down the dings, are their techniques for this by hand, or will I have to purchase an English wheel or small planishing machine? I'm an artist with a limited budget. Thank you and I'm really enjoying your videos and especially this new buck series. -T
@proshaper4 жыл бұрын
Hi Todd, for shaping heavier thickness metals you are better served by using a air planishing hammer, or power hammer. Also See my video ( in my KZbin channel library)on my Maglio or helve style hammer. For inexpensive tool solutions you will have to make your own tools. I plan to make shaping tool videos real soon.

You mentioned that you used a scanner to assist in some CNC buck building. What scanner did you use?
@proshaper4 жыл бұрын
I used a Artec Eva scanner which I borrowed from a friend. It was a photo based scanner. Laser scanners which cost a lot more work much better. I had a student attend my class and he over $75000.00 invested in a laser scsnner and software. They work well but a long learning curve and something that a guy building a car out of his 2 car garage at home will never buy.
@gearhed784 жыл бұрын
@@proshaper That is an excellent point. Thanks for focusing on practical methods. I have been testing a method of manufacturer released digital renderings and using those files to create a 3d printed buck. It is a few steps with free software and takes time but if the manufacturer releases them, they should be spot on. No physical car needed. I'll keep working on it and if it is practical and useful, I'll share.

Hello Wray, this is again a very interesting video. Thank you for these many tips and experiences! I'm watching these videos in Germany and unfortunately I have to translate them with the subtitles... for whatever reason, this video is automatically translated into Korean. This results in a very nonsensical and incoherent translation, with automatic English translation everything is understandable and logically makes sense. Can you change the automatic translation, that would be a great thing. Thanks in advance! Best regards from Germany.

Wray. I thought you were against bucks or is this a case of "bucking the trend"! 😂😂
@proshaper4 жыл бұрын
Hi John, I never said I was against bucks. I'm against bucks if you are copying an existing shape ( size makes a difference). It is much easier to copy an existing shape with one of my Flexible Shape patterns. If you are making a new shape or making a whole car you need a buck. For just a fender or a patch panel no buck needed.

@@proshaper Hi Wray. I absolutely agree ,l was just employing my "English" sense of humour ! Well l should have more spare time to be schooled by your good self as l'm now retired and with the covid19 restrictions. However, l'm actually busier than ever restoring my '69 TR6 and my '66 "e"type . I've just spent 6months full time replacing rusted metal on a Jaguar MK 9. With very few parts available l had to make the majority of pieces, very enjoyable but challenging. "Every day's a school day!" Take care and stay safe.
