@marcogenovesi8570 Жыл бұрын
a helmet isn't terribly useful against a mace, go figure against a 3kg object. Yes it might reduce the caved in skull but you are still rocking the brain causing internal bleeding and possibly breaking the neck. Helmets are more against glancing hits
@kirbyis4ever
@kirbyis4ever 7 ай бұрын
@@marcogenovesi8570Better we crack a helmet than a skull though. You might get a concussion with a helmet and it'll aborb much of the force. You're going to break your skull open without one. Ever wondered why they started wearing helmets in world war one?
@marcogenovesi8570
@marcogenovesi8570 7 ай бұрын
@@kirbyis4ever the helmet does not magically eat the impact force of a mace and much less of a 3kg object. Unless you deflect it, you are still dead with TBI (traumatic brain injury) and possibly a broken neck even if the skull is not cracked. If you want protection from that you need a full exoskeleton (or a vehicle) that can actually tank the impact for you. They wore helmets in WW1 mostly for shrapnel and other small stuff thrown around by artillery, not for melee combat, nor for guns. Even modern helmets barely stop pistols and still leave you in a bad shape after the hit. Helmets designed for melee were very common in middle ages and renaissance but they were mostly for glancing blows and deflections. A direct hit with a mace or a polearm would still take you down.

I can sadly speak from experience that a blow to the head can cause massive seizures prrhaps starting years later. However, Tyranth can do whatever the hell he wants to and I stick firmly to that! By the way, if you travel by car you are incredibly stupid to risk life and limb just to go somewhere. Humans totally suck at properly assessing risk, so says the guy who lives in a State full of volcanos with earthquakes. Better to live well and go out rightly! I'll pass on the blunt object thingies and stick to nice safe sharp ultra long kitchen cutlery with guards requiring two hands to operate.

Just subbed to your channel, coming here from Shadiversity. This is my favorite video of yours, because much like yourself, I like to create my own IRL-functional movie-like devices and weapons. This video of yours reminds me of my throwing battle mace, attached to a leather dog leash, and retrieved after throwing with the off hand. The return function you created reminds me of one of my trademark devices, The Coin of Sun Tzu, which is a wrist-mounted heavy round brass paperweight, styled like a Chinese coin, that is attached to a Kevlar cord key reel of 48" in extension, which allows me to spin the disc-shaped coin off of my index finger with great force, and deliver a close-quarters blow that afterwards returns it to my hand. It's always great to see another "maker of things". Very inspiring.

Awesome test here, I was very impressed with how it went, well done. I was deeply concerned for you knees here after the first couple throws. I would generally recommend that you wear your safety stuff for at least the first 2 or 3 tests since if something is going to go wrong, its often going to be before you get a feel for what your doing. Doing it and then determining if you need the safety based on that feels like a very dangerous way of dealing with things. That said, it was a good video regardless of my concerns there so once again, very well done.

The problem with the MCU's depiction of Mjolnir, imho, has always been ... it's not a hammer. It's a metal mallet. For some reason pop culture seems to love misinterpreting mauls and mallets as being made of metal, rather than realizing that the enormous mass is due to the lower density of wood. So many video game warhammers are just metal mauls, and so far, the only movie or game I've ever seen actually use the maul or mallet correctly is Bannerlord. I'd love to see a movie someday that shows Mjolnir as actually described ... as a normal looking, totally inconspicuous weapon that was just made of a super-dense material that made it so heavy that no mortal and very few mythological beings had the strength to lift. Imagine the humiliation of a twelve-foot-tall frost giant walking up to what looks like a perfectly ordinary claw-hammer and not even being able to heft it off the ground. The visual actually really fits with Thor's mythological depiction as the Norse every-man who wanders the world and even kills his resurrecting goats to share food with those who have none to offer.
