Usually a change in weather of any kind makes me sick, if it rains during summer time or even this transitional period between Fall and Winter I fall sick 80% of the time in varying degrees. I had a mild cold a few days a back and I made the mistake of vocalising for over an hour thinking it was OKAY. Later on I noticed that although it didn't feel bad at the moment of vocalising or even immediately after, but hours afterwards that it felt like I had rubbed sandpaper in my throat. Took a couple of days off and waited for the dust to settle and now I feel great again, if only I knew things mentioned here in the video sooner😁.

Glad to hear that you took some time to rest and recover! Generally if you’re sick we’d suggest not vocalizing at all if possible but we understand that sometimes people have deadlines where they have to record or perform (obviously not right now because no one is touring) so scaling back and staying overly on top of hydration can help a lot

Well the good news is I don't drink sweet drinks and I don't usually like tea all that hot. Love the discussion about moderation. Good stuff guys! And winter is coming! (Soon) the fall is also colder where I am too. Also I got a buddy up around your area, and he is one of the few friends who I talk metal with. Cool guy for sure

Great video! Never thought of a humidifier in the jam pad. Will definitely be doing this from now on.

Definitely makes a difference! Good for any wood instruments too, keeps them from getting as warped if you can keep the humidity consistent!

That's actually great video and topic since i live in Ukraine. Can relate to it very much. It's dropped below 0 Celsius and i couldn't do even half of what i was capable of vocally

What about, like, mint herbal tea? No caffeine, no sugar, etc. I could let it cool to room temp before drinking as well 🙂

Hi david, i already wrote you about this on instagram but i got no response. What do you think about the fact that some teachers say you have to "clean"/recenter your voice after screaming or singing with distortion? Is it true that you have to do that or otherwise you'll go down the path of only being able to hit notes in a distorted way? I never did this after any of my screaming so i was wondering what you think about this and if you actually do this after your screaming. And if you do, what kind of exercise you apply? Thank you for all these videos, you are an amazing teacher🤗

does vaping counts as steaming ?
@ExtremeVocalInstitute4 жыл бұрын
No it does not. Any kind of inhalant is going to be irritating to the vocal cords (some more than others and the amount varies from person to person and based on how often you partake but they do all cause irritation). For steaming you want to use a pot of hot water or a personal humidifier. Standing in a hot shower can also have a similar effect
@кружокармреслинга4 жыл бұрын
@@ExtremeVocalInstitute Wow, that was quick respond! Thank you for additional info, i dont know a lot about this kind of stuff, but i noticed like that vaping is basically inhaling steam, but it is much more concentrated tho. Thanks again, and I will try to keep my self away from this things when my voice is not in the best shape
@ExtremeVocalInstitute4 жыл бұрын
@@кружокармреслинга yeah but it still has chemicals in it. Obviously not all cartridges are created equal and some may have a larger effect than others but the reality is that vapes haven’t been around long enough for scientific studies over long term periods to be done so there’s no way of knowing how much they’ll affect the vocal cords until time has passed. We just have to use what we know about similar kinds of inhalants to infer the outcome and since our goal is safety, that’s the route we choose to go. Whether you partake or not is your choice but we would not substitute vaping for steaming. We also recommend that you don’t vape right before, during or right after you practice

Is it normal that my growls sound better when my throat is dry ?
@ExtremeVocalInstitute4 жыл бұрын
You may be accustomed to the sound of tension, in which case you may want to re-evaluate how you’re getting to the sound. Vocalizing without being properly hydrated can lead to unnecessary friction of the vocal cords which will cause damage over time so we definitely wouldn’t recommend that.
@matthiasd-vermette59004 жыл бұрын
@@ExtremeVocalInstitute all right i'll try to work on that wich brings a second question : how much time does it normally take when we drink water to hydrate our throat ?
