OMG, John! Taemin is a legend. He is the youngest member of Shinee, and is one of the most talented idols in the industry. He is a sweetheart of a person, but when he performs, it’s like he is possessed by a demon. Very much like Jimin of BTS. In fact, they are friends who have performed together. A point a lot of people are missing is that Taemin is a metalhead himself and has even covered Korn in the middle of a SHINee concert (just SHINee things!!) In fact, most fans keep hoping/wishing he would release a rock or metal album. When the first teaser pictures for Advice started coming out we thought it would finally be the time but instead he surprised us with this. Which btw is one of his most different songs from the rest of his body of work (in an amazing way). I hope one day our wishes come true!

Taemin is one of the most iconic kpop idols. He's known as being the best dancer in the entirety of kpop. Dance experts actually rated all the idols and listed the top 3 best dancers of kpop as: 1. Taemin (Shinee) 2. Kai (EXO) 3. Ten (NCT/Wayv) Funny thing is that these are all groups from SM. SM has the kpop idols with the best vocals and best dance skills in the industry.

He’s a dance genius, he’s a performance genius, he is worshipped by literally most of the industry even younger generations of K-pop. I’m glad you reacted to that song ! Taemin debuted at 14 in 2008 and literally grew up in the spotlight, it's wild. Advice is the third and final part of a trio of songs (Criminal, then Idea) that philosophise on his relationship with celebrity, the media, and his identity as a pop star, Advice is kind of his coming to peace with who he is and deciding to go his own way regardless of how that's taken.They're all really interesting songs and all beautifully packaged (lyrics, song construction, music video, styling).

Taemin has been an idol for more than half of his life at this point. He's from Shinee who are known as the Princes of Kpop and he is widely regarded as the best dancer in Kpop. amazing artist. one of the best dancers in kpop, i think we all agree. also a good friend of jimin. they have a performance together. he kind of revolutionized what was expected of idols once their group was no longer active. as in, shinee (his group) was very successful but later he also was as a solo artist, plus he wasn't afraid of expressing himself (bc he debuted so young, i think fourteen, there were certain expectations or prejudices when he started solo, but he just demolished them and did his thing) anyway, if you're listening to him, you have to listen to "move".

Excellent recommendation!!! Yes, Taemin is an incredible pianist. So, this is actually the culmination of a trilogy. The prologue is “2 Kids”, but the trilogy itself is “Criminal”, “IDEA”, then “Advice”. All the songs have multiple layers of meanings, but the underlying message and theme is Taemin’s internal struggle between idol-Taemin and IRL-Taemin. “Criminal” touches on Stockholm Syndrome…being a willing captive to his idol persona. “IDEA” deals with Plato’s Theory of Idea: Form vs Identity…fighting to merge into one true self rather than two halves. “Advice” is basically his mic drop to the industry that has tried to conform him into their perfect idea of an idol, telling them to take his own advice and not push him around, that he’s going to stay true to himself. He’ll get tattoos if he wants (“destroying” his torso) - which is why he finally revealed his beautiful hip tattoo…the smeared makeup…androgynous clothing/hair…female backup dancers. No matter what, he’s going to do what he wants and the more they try to stop him, the faster he’ll shut them down. As you have noticed, Taemin is quite different from your standard Kpop idol, and yes, he is really playing the piano. In fact, as per the industry and his long-time fans (SHAWOLs and Jjakoonggs)Taemin isn't an "idol at all"; he's an artist -- unique, and legendary within the industry. He has a very different approach to music which is shared by his also legendary group SHINee. They debuted together in 2008 when Taemin was just 14. As a rare, self-taught dancer, Taemin taught himself by copying the moves of his favorite artists by dancing in front of his mirror beginning at 10. By 12 he auditioned at the extremely difficult open Saturday auditions for SM. Thousands would attend these auditions and only eight have ever been selected. Taemin was one of them. He became one of the youngest to ever debut at that time. Although he is a tremendous dancing machine and known to be the best in Kpop, Taemin couldn't sing at debut. His vocal cords were too immature at the time. With the tutelage of his two senior brothers (two of the best in all of Kpop), Jonghyun and Onew, by 2012, Taemin was getting more and more singing lines and with all his hard work, in 2014 he became SM's first-ever soloist from an active boy group. From there on Taemin became SM's "ACE" and he has churned out hits ever since. He can sing just about any genre, including Metal, Rock, Jazz, R&B, Ballads, Musical Theater, etc (just like all SHINee members). As a self-avowed workaholic, Taemin is an active member of both SHINee and SuperM, while also a soloist. Currently he is completing his military duties, but we are eagerly awaiting his return in early March, 2023. "Advice" was his parting gift to us (literally two weeks before enlisting). Lee Taemin is the most famous korean dancer and a very very great singer. the thing with taemin was in his group SHINEE his role was basicly the dancer with few lines to sing. coz everyone thought that he couldn't sing. but like Jin , he didn't give up and worked really bloody hard to get his amazing singing's level. now in korea when an idol make a good improvement in dance or singing skill , they call that an "taemin shot" or something 😅 l love all his songs, but for beginer i recommand "criminal" and "move"

I'm not into BTS, so I don't watch most of your videos, but I'm all here for everything else. I liked your anime videos, and I also like when you watch other k-pop artist. I highly suggest some other Taemin songs, like Criminal, Move, and Idea. If you want to check out another kpop artist that is super popular, I suggest you check out Chung Ha, my all time favorite songs from her are "Stay Tonight", "Play" and "Dream of You". She's one of the big queens of kpop solo artists.

@@JohnReavesLive he does play piano live for few of his songs during concerts, but he's mostly a performance-based artist meaning he focuses more into performing than into playing music. However this guy is a whole package of an artist that everything he shows is basically his creations. Nothing goes without him supervising his own works. He chooses the director for his MVs himself, goes over every scene during editing for his MVs too. Same thing goes for his choreographers, he revises the routine himself, or freestyle if he needs too. Even his back up dancers are handpicked coz he's so good he needs to be with the best dancers as well. You like dark concepts? Then you find the best artist ever that is notorious and well known for his distinctive style than other kpop artists. No one does dark avant-garde concept properly but taemin, tbh. He's so respected in the industry for being able to 'create' such genre. Try listen to "Criminal" or "Idea", those are my recommendations now. Thanks for reacting for Taemin 😊

He has been playing piano since he was in elementary school. I watched him recording this song. It is outrageously difficult and then he learned the dance on top of that. He is the best dancer in all of South Korea. There is no one better. The only one close to him is Jhope, but they have different styles. Jimin has danced with him because yes they are friends but a computer analysis didn't rate him that close. Taemin was 94 something and Jimin was in the 70s but he is my bias in BTS and his cuteness makes up for it, lol. Taemin is a perfectionist. You need to hear other things. Listen to his critique of Snow Flower where he is just sitting in a chair singing or watch him sing it without that. You will then see how great a singer he is. Taemin has co-written a number of songs and he wins awards for dance performances. His genre is Pop, R&B and soul. And has been called the Michael Jackson of K-POP.

Ok John, welcome to the world of k pop. There are so many artists, and there are 4 generations. 1st Gen started in the 90s. And even though the Korean culture ate it up, the western world had yet to see it or even know it existed. It was 2nd Gen that started the western ball rolling, (no pun intended). Now part of 2nd Gen was a Group called Shinee. A 5 member boy group that was amazing at dancing, and vocals. But it was also their fashion that got ppl to stop and then they would hear their incredible vocals. The 5 members were Onew, Kibum (Key for short) Jonghyun, Minho, and their Evil Maknae Taemin. Some of the songs they were known for were "Lucifer," (BTW, this was the very first k pop song I ever heard.) But also "Hello", "Why So Serious," "Ring Ding Dong," "Sherlock," "Juliette," "Clue/Note," but the song they debuted with back in 2008 was "Replay," with a maknae that was only 14 years old. Now keep in mind, these are not in order and these are there earlier work. You see Shinee is still together and still active. But there are only 4 members now, Onew, Key, Minho, and Taemin. Back in December 2017, one of their members, Jonghyun made a decision that not only changed k pop but we no longer get to hear his beautiful, angelic voice. He wasn't the only one we lost in k pop to that decision but that is for another time. All the members have had solo projects, including Jonghyun. And a lot of fans say that Taemin is the most successful as a solo artist. But he has been doing it the longest, due to the fact that the other three members had to go into the military. So while they were in, Taemin put out some music. Some songs before they went in are "Danger," "Press Your Number," and "Drip Drop." And some songs after they went in "Want," "Move" (my ultimate favorite of his), and one that I can't listen too, it actually gives me a migraine, but otherwise it is good and that would be "My Idea." Now again these aren't in order, but they are all amazing, but it's also a short list to start out with. Now two more items and I'll calm down. First, yes that is him playing the piano. He is also an amazing songwriter as well. And second, Taemin is considered to be at the top of the list when it comes to the best dancers in Korea. In many people's eyes, the Top 4 dancers are 1. Taemin 2. Kai of EXO, now 3 and 4 change depending on who you talk to, so for now we go with 3. Jimin and 4. J Hope. Now Taemin and Kai as well as Jimin are all very good friends, but it is Taemin and Kai who are best friends. And Taemin has the nickname of "The Michael Jackson of Korea." You speak to any k pop dancer nowadays, and all of them will say their influence was and still remains to be Taemin. Now Taemin is due to be released from military service pretty soon. And I for one am very grateful for that. Taemin was put thru hell in the military. He is one of the most well known and well liked k pop stars and most of them do fine in the military, with a few hiccups, but Taemin was betrayed by his own squad. Basically while he was in the bathroom taking a shower, his whole squad followed him into the showers, and several, if not most of them took photos of him while in the shower. Let's just say it hasn't been easy for him. But they did remove him from those barracks and sent him to civil service, which is another possible thing for idols to do to keep them safe, if they choose. Oh lord, I am so so sorry for rambling on. I truly meant to give you info about Taemin only. But I just kept going even after I said I would stop...I am so so sorry.. please forgive me John. I just wanted to give u info about Taemin. I do hope it helped, even just a little.

Taemin was one of the very first of SM's Idols who was still part of a group to go solo, and he debuted as a solo artist back in 2014 when he was 21 years old. He has been a solo artist for more than half his career and he has more than 11 solo albums, both Korean and Japanese albums, and he has held at least 3 solo concert tours with dozens of concerts all on his own. On top of having more than 13 full length albums, just as many repackaged albums, multiple mini albums, and OSTS, etc. as a member of SHINee, as well as more than 100 SHINee concerts. He also has 2 albums and a world concert tour as a member of SuperM, as well. Taemin knows what he is doing when it comes to creating art and holding his own as a solo artist. Taemin has released music every year since he debuted as a member of SHINee in 2008, either as a member of SHINee, as a solo artists, as a member of a project group or as a member of SuperM. He has officially debuted in 3 Kpop generations -- 2nd generation with SHINee in 2008, 3rd generation as a solo artist in 2014 and 4th generation with SuperM in 2019. I look forward to you watching more of taemon's performances as a soloist he's originally from Shinee and currently serving in the military and will be out next year. He's well known for his choreography and you should also watch the exhibition that he and jimin did together I don't remember where it was from but it's on KZbin someplace. Ah welcome to Taemin!! I am Bangtan's Army forever, but there are some artists that make you sit up and take notice and Taemin's solo stuff (he's from SHINee) is definitely one of them! His dancing is what I first discovered and then found his music and mv's. He pushes boundaries and is different. And his ballads are gorgeous too. It's so polished and professional but yet raw expression as well. Definitely check out the MV's for Criminal, Idea, Flame of love, Danger, Famous, and the performance video duo version of Move, the dance performance or practice of Goodbye, and the performance of Door. I also love Rise, Black Rose, Soldier. He is one of the best dancers in the kpop industry (and he's friends with Jimin and they've performed together). He has been around for a loooong time and he is known as the idol's idol for a reason!

Fun facts taemin signed with sm at age 11 he debuted age 14 with the rest of the group 2008. Yes he plays piano. He was taught to sing by his members onew and jonghyun before taking professional lessons later on. He's an avid fan of Michael Jackson. He is a self taught dancer but also took professional lessons. He has two tattoos one on his right hip and one in his inner left arm. He recovered from a small injury he got when filming this MV. And is due to be discharged from military service. Question does taemin sing live YES he only sings live unless there is a reason he can't but I've never seen it happen. Shinee has trained running and singing for many hours to keep up with the hard chorio while doing three hours of hard hitting dance in concert. Actually, "Criminal" is one of his latest solo projects. It came out in 2020 with his album, "Never Gonna Dance Again" Act 1. Taemin became a soloist in 2014 and has about 10 other albums (when you count Japanese, mini-albums, & Korean albums together).

I see "Advice" as a continuation of the themes within Taemin's previous Never Gonna Dance Again album trilogy -- "2 Kids," "Criminal" and "Idea." With "Criminal" and "Idea," Taemin talks about being involved in a toxic relationship -- not necessarily a romantic relationship, but a metaphor for his relationship with fame -- in which he agrees to be manipulated almost to the point of being destroyed in order to become the artist we see today. But in the end of "Idea" we see him become free from the box everyone wants to put him in and he comes to terms with his role as an idol. He has now formed his own "Idea" about himself and what it means to be an idol, etc. As Taemin explained during his VLive event for "Advice", "Advice" is like the end to the first chapter in his life, and the beginning of his second chapter, which will be after he completes his military service. (He enlisted May 30, 2021, and he will be on hiatus for 18 months as he fulfills his duty to his country.) The song seems to be his way of saying I am done caring to everyone who judged him and all those haters who spread rumors and misinformation about him. "Advice" is showing that he is now free and confident to be himself, breaking stereotypes and now only listening to himself. Taemin is just one of those performers that leaves you speechless every time he steps on stage. He was born to be a performer and that is one of the reasons why he has become known as the Korean Michael Jackson. That is also why, as one of the top two performers in the industry, he was made a member of SuperM. Taemin is an Idol of Idols and a legend of legends. And the title of the industry's BEST dancer isn't just a fan's opinion but it's a widely agreed upon title bestowed on Taemin by his peers and the industry as a whole. In "Advice" he's basically saying, "Stop trying to put me in a box, in which I'll never fit in." He is also speaking to everyone that says he's getting old, that he's just a Michael Jackson wannabe that doesn't sell a lot of albums because he tries too hard to be edgy, etc. He's rebelling against all those people who are constantly advising him to make more mainstream music or to follow the traditional Kpop idol style in order to boost his sales and his popularity. However, as Taemin is making clear in "Advice," that is not who he is and he will never be "normal" or "mainstream" and he is OK with that. In the scenes where you see him covered in ink, I think that is supposed to be him showing everyone how he is no longer the "unstained," cute maknae everyone wants to think of him as. The diamond you see painted on his hand when he is playing the piano, and you see drawn on his bicep, etc. is SHINee's official symbol. (The large tattoo on his hip is real. Hence why in the lyrics he says, "I destroy the torso that you were chasing after." He's tired of people thinking they even have a say in what he does with his body.) This song was specifically designed to not be like anything he has ever done before. He plays the piano, he raps, he shows off his falsetto notes, etc., which is different than what we often hear and see from him. He intentionally used this song to prove that he isn't one type of singer. People often think of Taemin as a sultry vocalist that sings in a breathy comfortable, less dynamic style. So, with this song he wants to prove to everyone that he can be unpredictable and try new things. Yet again, you can't put him in a box or tell him who to be. Everything you see in this MV is 100% Taemin, including the piano playing. Everything that Taemin's haters like to point out about him and say are reasons why he shouldn't be held to such high esteem, I find completely ridiculous. I don't think that anyone who actually knows him would ever say he has played it safe at anytime in his career. If you think he is only one dimensional, and that he is trying to be anything other than himself, then you really don't know Taemin. Everything he does is different, out there and definitely not safe. It's always uniquely Taemin, and he couldn't do it any other way. Also, because Taemin is a member of SHINee, none of his songs are ever like anything you have every heard or seen before from him. It will always have a new beat, style and sound. As SM Entertainment's experimental boy group, SHINee is meant to be the first and they are expected to set the trend, and that includes the members' solo work. With every new song Taemin produces it's expected to be different than the last, so you will never hear the same style or sound from him in any of his songs, even on the same album, and yet, it still will be uniquely Taemin-like. Which is another example of how you can never put him in a box or expect anything from him. :D Another theme in "Advice" is about how Taemin is embracing his androgynous side -- but on his own terms -- which I think is a continuation of the message in his "Move" MV. Early in his career when Taemin was growing up in SHINee, he was known for his feminine look. It took him a long time to accept that he was known for his looks and to come to terms with the fact that everyone thought of him as a "pretty boy," etc. So, at this point in his career he is making a statement about how he has decided to be himself and no longer care what people think. Music is art and art has no gender. So, that is why in "Advice" you see him wearing hair extensions, fishnets and women's Supreme sports wear, etc. But if you notice, his choreography is very fast paced and sharp, which is hyper masculine -- a complete contrast to the "feminine" image people want to give him. You also see him wearing makeup, but it's smeared on his face, as if to say, "people may think of me as a 'Pretty Boy,' but I don't care about looking pretty." In the lyrics he is saying, "It's creepy how people are always looking to cause drama, so stop trying to create scandals in my life that don't really exist. It's all just stories you make up." He's tired of all those people who seem to look for reasons to cause drama, where none really exists. Where he says "floppy" in the lyrics, I think he's talking about knowing about or hearing firsthand the things people are saying about him, but he is choosing not to pay attention to them because what they're saying is flopping or doesn't hold any weight or have any substance, etc. "Advice" just proves that everytime people try to put Taemin in a box he destroys it and keeps coming back with something more unique and never seen before. Hence, why in the choreography he puts his hands in front of his face and creates a movement that looks like an animated mouth talking. It represents how everyone keeps talking about him and what they are saying is nonsense, which makes them look and sound ridiculous, etc. Which is why in the lyrics he says, "You will never get the keys to my lock" because he doesn't ever plan to give people what they want and allow them access to his secrets and personal life, etc. (Those people who like to gossip about him will never truly know the real him.) I interpret the "One (piece of ) Advice" he is talking about in the lyrics as a reference to the advice he keeps being given about being more mainstream, but he's saying, "stop trying to make me conform to the image you have in your head of who I should be and what I should do" -- in other words, take all that time and effort you have been using to come up with ways to talk about how I don't fit in, etc. and put it to better use. "Follow my own advice" and do something original for once. As a devout Catholic, Taemin often uses Biblical references and metaphors in his songs and MVs. And the crucifixion pose at the end of "Advice" is sort of a signature pose for him. I interpret it to be like he is saying, "And that is the end, this is my final word, take it or leave it, but don't doubt me. I have gave it my all and laid everything I had out there for you," etc. If you are impressed with Taemin's dancing in this MV, just wait until you see him dance live, as well as his dance practice video on SM's new SMP Floor channel. You will be even more blown away. As I said, Taemin is on a whole other level.

It can safely be said that Taemin is an Idol unto himself. There is no one quite like him and none of them should try. Advice is unique among his works. It has a very different sound, a different vibe. When I first heard it, my initial thought was "Oh, baby, who hurt you?" and as I continued listening, that thought changed to "Who the F- pissed Taemin off?". Imho, this song isn't just about the expectations of celebrity image vs real person placed on him by SM, but also by the fans as well, especially those that do not respect any sort of boundaries, even when requested to do so. Taemin will be doing his comeback this year, I believe, as his mandatory military service (which had been commuted to something else due to MH issues) and I look forward to seeing more of this stronger, more mature, very confident version of Taemin.

Taemin was so young when he started and he worked really hard to be recognized as a singer, not just a dancer. I love ALL his stuff, which is so hard to say with an artist.
