I honestly think the Vadim Taranow Heavy5150 was one of the top ones here. It was clear as day, but not brittle. I'd love to hear a clean tone amp sim comparison as well!

Yeah it surprised me as well! It’s not very versatile (it pretty much does one sound) but what a sound!

I just got the PRS had it for a week now and love the sounds and the flexibility of the software. It feels like your playing out of a amp. And it work great with pedal too.

How was it? You like the tone? I bought one impulsively, i purchased a wave bundle and got a free offer, i didn’t know there’s time limit to choose so I picked this on the list instead of nothing lol😅 I already got S-Gear which has MIDI control setting. Not sure how it compares with PRS. Thanks!

For me TSE and PRS fits the mix best. LOVE to see real amp through captor vs plugins comparison.

Think the bass tone stole the show here! 😀 I have a soft spot for ignite emissary and I reckon a new version will be on its way as they updated NRR and Anvil. Also, TH3 for a review some time? Interested in your thoughts on that one as an ITB plugin as it's great to mix with

Awesome review thanks for putting together. What surprised me is even those free plugins can sound good in mix with more time tweaking added. I like the PRS and Vadim tone in the mix.

Vadim Taranow sim was quite surprising. Prs was kinda nice too. Was disappointed by bias tho, I thought it can do better.

I own Bias Amp 2 and I find that it sounds the most like an actual amp with a microphone on it compared to any of the other plugins I’ve experienced. And let me tell you, I have quite the collection. Most plugins sound like an amp just going direct, even with the speaker emulations. Bias Amp 2 at least sounds gritty and imperfect and that’s what I like the most. Plus Bias Amp has so many things that you can tinker with to dial in exactly the sound you want.

Bias is extremely tweakable and it look me 2 years to really learn the ins and outs of it. That being said the presets are a bit naff and most of these reviews use them. I have my own custom tone which is kinda of like a 5150 mixed with a Marshall. It's literally on par with Fortin Nameless Suite. If you have Bias Amp you can find my tone on the cloud. Heavy and Tight it's called. It's on the Insane amps page.
@linko994

Yeah I mean I know, that you can get good tones out of Bias. I've heard plenty of them. But I tried Bias Amp, Bias FX and Bias Amp FX and never got the results I wanted. I mostly use the Kazrog Thermionik stuff now and it's easy to get great tones.

Thermionik is a lot more versatile than the Fortin amp (as amazing as that one is) because it’s a whole suite of amps that covers a lot of bases well. Bias for me is quite fizzy and limited, but personal taste can vary

What a cute baby. Love this comparison. You put all the sound together so it's very easy to find the one that I like. I think bias 2 is the brightest one and you manage to make it sound good. I find it quite difficult to get the sound that I like from Bias 2.

I liked both the PRS and the Thermionik. I prefer the PRS a little more. I have demoed it, but it's too damn CPU heavy for me. I own Thermionik, for the price, it sounded pretty damn great.

Bias always seems to be a bit thinner on the low end than most other VST and micing.....while it doesn’t sound great alone is that to say it doesn’t fit the mix better? Not sure, I find myself dialing a lot of low end out.

Great shootout, thanks! For that 'one' sound Vadim and Emissary are very good! I prefer though Thermionik and PRS.. Could you not have used 2 speakers center panned in the WOS instead of 4, panned left and right? I'm still learning it..

Hey! If I was recording one channel at a time I could have done that, but I was feeding both left and right amps through it at the same time to keep the test simple. The hard pan is to make sure the incoming stereo signal doesn’t get summed to mono. If you’re only putting one amp through it, the way you suggested works fine

To me the PRS sounded great on its own, however the Bias Amp 2 and Vadim Taranov seemed to sound really close to each other and cut thru the mix much more effective. To me Bias all the way though. Most of the others were too muddy and or too mid rangy (Radio like)

so you used a tube screamer before the DI?
@adamsteelproducer
@adamsteelproducer 6 жыл бұрын
Yeah that’s right. In this case I used a “real” tube screamer because I had one in my recording chain, and figured it would level the playing field instead of the inbuilt tube screamer sims that some have. Next time I’ll be doing it without as well!

I didn’t forget, I just didn’t do it. This was a simple straight heavy rhythm tone shootout, which is far more harmonically complex than single note lead work and therefore should show differences far more easily
