The more people who fall in love with knives, the better for all of us, and the potential for increased value in our knives. I'm fairly new to it, but I became a "knife junky" relatively quickly. In 12 months I have accumulated 13 knives, all above $300 and up to $800. The love for these pieces of art is not so easy to convey to a non knife lover. I never thought I'd give a shit about knives but here I am, totally obsessed!

I just missed the pokemon thing, but my younger cousin did, and my son does now. Now as far as knives for investments, I don't see them that way. But it is a cool hobbies and you can sometimes get back what you paid for something, when you wanna try something new. Only knife I made something on was a Chaves group knife. Everything else sold for what I paid or less. Here for the love of sharp stuff, not trying to profit. I also use my knives, the couple safe queens I've had go first, to fund the next thing.

Tungsten carbide is used in cutters in machining. It is a sintered powder metal formed onto a shape that is then machine ground into the final shape. They are made to cut anything from aluminum to inconel, and everything in between. Depending on the grade of carbide, it's toughness and edge retention are excellent. Being a high hardness material, it can be very brittle and will not stand up to sudden impact very well. It is extremely difficult to sharpen. Being a CNC programmer I am very familiar with a wide variety of carbide and I have to understand the situation each cutter will be used in to make sure the cutting parameters are sufficient to keep the cutter life up as well as the surface finish of the part it is cutting. I would love to get a blade made out of carbide some day, but I don't look forward to sharpening it! Keep up the good work. I love hearing various opinions on subjects in the knife world. Others have widely different experiences than myself, and will have a perspective I would never have had. When a person has a ridgid view on something that is subjective, they will never hear anything different from their opinion! Don't let people get to you. Ramble on as long as you want, take as many tangents as you need. I enjoy your video's! Edit: whatever you do, don't drop that carbide blade! It will shatter!

Exactly. I buy knives. I have overpaid for a few. That’s ok, because I buy them because I like them, not because I think I will make it big if I hoard them long enough.
@bullridermusic20543 жыл бұрын
Your story is exactly the same as mine, I overpaid for my Halo V and my Halo VI along with my Microtech Stitch, probably a couple other ones, because they make me happy. I find that there is an art in knives in the mechanical way they work and all the different functions, blade shapes, steels, configurations. It breaks my heart sometimes that my siblings and my family don't understand that. Then you have people who will go out and collect stamps. 🤦♂️ yeah and I'm the one that's strange.

My Mom who is in her mid 60’s now, use to work at a Mattel inc. for a few summers when she was 15-16. Barbies were like $2.50 in store and she could get them for $0.50-1.50 with a discount. Lmao and she intentionally started a collection because she knew they would be worth more one day. So when I show her new knives and tell her how much it was ... she gets it! Even the hype factor. I was shocked at how much she loves the xm-18 😆😆

Knife Center Exclusive Stonewashed Black DLC aka DARK HORSE XM18 3.5 Spanto. That blade is insane, she's going to wear smooth black micarta and I already have the all black hardware and black clip/tab screws. Finding black ti XM18 3.5 scales is like looking for a T6 handle screw in your front yard

What I've learned in the knife community, car community, firearm community, etc., is to buy what i like with no intention of investing or reselling. Chances are, if you like it, other people will as well and you could potentially sell it later on for a bit of profit.

I’m a collector because I love knives.Ive never sold any of my knives and have no intentions of selling any.I know I could sell some of my knives for more than what I paid especially my discontinued knives,sprint runs and exclusives but that does really matter to me..honestly,I’m just a collector at heart.Ive always collected things..when I was a kid I collected hot wheels,baseball cards,comic books and cassette tapes..when I was a teenager to my late 20s I collected CDs,DVDs and video games..in my late 20s to now I have been collecting guns and knives.though I am a collector,I use all my knives.I have no safe queens.if I buy it I’m gonna use it regardless if it’s a Hinderer,a Medford,Olamic,CRK,Microtech,Borka,etc

I too collect knives for the pure enjoyment of the hobby. I don't sell mine or try to make any money at all of from them. True it is an expensive hobby, but I have a plethora of useful, functioning sharp things that are tuned up and always ready to go. So for me it is the collecting aspect of it, but also the maintenance as well like stropping them to a razors edge or adjusting your knives to be perfect... etc.. Totally been digging your channel for a long time brother, keep posting useful content.

You’re totally correct on card prices; even back in the 90s people were going crazy; I partially paid for my college with magic the gathering cards….now I kick myself; had all the mox jewels and an alpha lotus (ie several of the most expensive cards) and could have done just as you, retired. 🤷♂️ but I had fun. Now knives, but neither were meant for flipping, I just love collecting and occasionally it pays off. But probably because of having heart in the right place (ouch, ego alert). Love your rants. Thanks

Great video. I 100% agree but I can think of at least two "inexpensive" knifes that can break the norm, meaning that you could sell them infinitely if you could get stock. Spyderco Smock and the Kizer Cormorant V1 or V2.
@donniedoobie96273 жыл бұрын
Also....i have to be honest and say I flipped one knife. I bought a spyderco knock off and pawned it for like 5 times what I paid for it. I try to rationalize it because said pawn shop screwed me several times before. Although , I know it was wrong. I would never stiff a normal person or buy a knife with the intention of flipping it. Everything I've ever made money from was actually a good investment and later realized such. I bought a rare book several years ago for $150....4 years later I sold it for $600 on eBay...but that was never my intention. I bought it because I wanted it and then found out the value 4 years later and decided to sell it to pay for other important things.

I actually just learned about hinderers and i instantly really became fond of it and wanted one but saw they were sold out. I saw them going for like 1200 on ebay and laughed and said ill just grab one when a new drop happens. I grabbed a custom anodized zt 0562 or whatever that looked similar and just as nice. Point is that spending triple that something is worth because of demand when more are on the way is just a waste. Now if something will not be released and you really want it or maybe you see the potential future value in it then i can agree.knives just don’t feel like good investments. At the very least you can usually get your money back if you kept it mint

I am that guy whom just got back into the knife world. I was a blade enthusiast in my younger years then dropped out. This past year I have rekindled my love of sharp, finely made and tuned tools. I heard a knife world name that is so close my exact name. Hadn’t heard it before. It sounds so similar when its said, that my ears can barely tell the difference and its a bit profound for me. That name is Rick Hinderer. So naturally I had to have one. Alas, it seems I will have to overpay for one. Like I’m some parent that has to buy their kid a ps5 for christmas and money is no object. I wont do that.

Yeah you're right about most of them...but someday that out-of-production Kershaw Link is gonna soar to $100 🤣
@garrettferrell68213 жыл бұрын
I love both my Kershaw Links..USA made Kershaw knives were some of my first knives in “super steels”.I bought my first Link in M390 for $75 and then bought my Link in 20CV for just $60 a year or 2 ago from a Black Friday sale.when I first started really collecting,I thought $100 was a lot to spend on a knife.back then I rarely went over $100,$130 was my absolute limit.USA made Kershaws are hard to beat for the money.when I bought that Link in M390 for $75,it was the cheapest knife in M390 by a large margin.most knives in M390 were $200 or better,especially for a USA made knife..my only complaint with USA made Kershaw knives is the fact most are assisted opening.assisted opening knives aren’t a deal breaker but I definitely prefer manual opening knives.thats part of the reason why the Bareknuckle is my favorite Kershaw..regardless,I’m a big fan of the Link,Leek,Dividend and Bareknuckle..I like the Knockout alright but it was the USA made Kershaw I was most disappointed by.I bought the carbon fiber+M390 sprint run Knockout,while it’s a pretty good looking knife,it’s a disappointment because the blade rubs against the scales and it doesn’t matter what I do,I can’t fix it.I don’t know if I just ended up with a dud,if this is just a problem with the carbon fiber+M390 sprint run, or if this is a common problem with the Knockout in general but it is highly disappointing

Whoever is hoarding the XM-18s is indeed in for a rude awaking. They are readily popping up on the secondary for under retail even now.
@metal_complex3 жыл бұрын
In rogue cases or if they've been used, sure. Gen 6 and in unused condition are selling far above retail though, and the only thing that can undo this is increased supply on Hinderer's end, which I'm sure is something he's working on.

@@metal_complex I don’t know… On Reddit they are going at retail or slightly below for LNIB pretty regularly. Only ones going above are fullered non flipper, Battle Black and MEFP. High quality traditional knives have simply exploded in value on the secondary market and keep going up in price. Reasons for this - Quality, limited quantities, more people finding out about them and just adding more people chasing them. Examples: GEC and Northwoods Knives. Values of these knives have jumped 100 to 300 % in the past two years.
