Important bit to notice is that songs like this while describing extreme human emotions including terrifying loneliness, are helping listeners to deal with them by showing them that more people struggle with similar shit in life, and therefore makes listeners feel less lonely. Artists like Whitechapel are absolute humankind treasures that should be promoted everywhere so it can reach those isolated by suffering in our society. Thank you Whitechapel for putting this huge effort in to this niche of a genre, and exploring emotions others don't even try to touch.

Seems a lot of people in Hardcore and Metal ignore lyrics quite often. As very good example of this is “Viking” by Slaughter to Prevail. A lot of people assume it’s like a Viking raider song but I took it to be an anti-war anthem about Russia invading Ukraine.

You know what I like about Phil more than about the younger generation of extreme metal vocalists coming up right now? He isn't using his voice to show off any sounds or skills, he solely uses it for the sake of storytelling. He COULD show off, but he is embracing his mid range because the words are more understandable then. I respect that more than any sound or technique.

@christiaandevries8906 The Pain Remains trilogy is a literal work of art. Read the lyrics, they are just as deep and meaningful as anything Phil has ever written for Whitechapel. Lorna has some beautiful sounding song's... they aren't just blast beats and breakdowns. They are putting deathcore in the public eye again because of some of the thing's they are doing. They went from playing tiny venues with Tom and CJ to now going on big tour's playing Amphitheaters with the likes of Gojira and Mastodon... as a DEATHCORE BAND, that isn't easy to do. Not every band has to throw cleans in the mix for them to convey the emotion they are trying to put across. Lorna does an amazing job with atmosphere and emotion without needing to soften their style. Albeit I will admit that some of their song's sound quite repetitive, especially with their stop start breakdowns (I actually think their breakdowns have become stale and are now the weakest part of their songwriting), but they definitely have some gems as well (like the Pain Remains trilogy, Welcome back o' sleeping dreamer, soulless existence).

Having visual representation of this song in this way makes me so happy. This video is so well done. That intro with the three of them playing acoustic guitars together was really cool. Phil continually inspires me with his openness to push the boundaries of not only what it means to be human but also how to be vulnerable and deal with personal demons. Without you, there's no me There's no us, there's no family It's so dark, it's so quiet now Is there anyone out there? Anyone? I'm alone again, just what I'm used to I'm here, bow to the ancient God The portal is shut, locked, no way out This is home This isn't home, it's hell with a lovely face The mask just hides the truth that controls our fate Take a look around, my friend That part of our life is dead So tell me where will we be in the years to come?
