I am running a Nox 800, and my backup is the Vanquish 540. It's a no brainer , same tones and numbering it's a mini Nox...love my minelab detectors.... Merrill give the Vanquish 540 a chance, it only makes sense..

The 8 inch coil is best for trashy areas. You can still get 8 inch targets. Love the vanquish. I hated it at first but it’s in my hand more often than not now. It’s my go to until I get the nox 800.

Love your vids...your the best! So glad to see you coming around on the Vanquish. It's the most versatile machine ever made. You said that you can't change the recovery speed...Isn't that what you said? Coin mode has very fast recovery and separates very well, while still maintaining fair depth. Jewelry mode is a little slower and a good all around speed. Relic is super slow. That's how you set recovery speed. Thanks for sharing all of your efforts and knowledge in your excellent videos!

@@dirtmagnet7486 That's awesome! I just tested it in front of my house here in Canada, - seems very stable. Why don't you take it up in the mountains and look for some Gold, that 8" coil might be good for that. There must be plenty of Gold up in the hills of New Zealand. 👍 South Island maybe?

The Vanquish 540 is an amazing detector! But, in an area as dirty and this park, the 8" coil would have made a huge difference for you.

Hit a beach with the vanquish and a beach regular guy with a ctx 3030 detector came up and was blown away at how well the vanquish was pulling up coins that he missed... going over the vanquish is a killer of high dollar detectors..

Wow Merrill, a seated dime, 1854, very cool. MDNYC, sounds better than metal detecting Palmdale, California. Oldest park here is 1947 I believe. Oh, I've still pulled thirteen silver dimes there and two buffalo nickels. Keep em comming, videos that is.

Merrill the recovery speed changes with the mode... Coins is a high recovery speed Relic mode is a low recovery speed and jewelry is right in the middle,, I hunt in jewelry mode all the time. Good depth with a descent separation...

question: do you find out when the battery low do you feel it dont go as deep? my AT pro when the battery was on 2 bars it seems it did not perform as good. i tested i check a location put in fresh batteries and recheck it i found alot more stuff. i see you used your dectors until the bateries is done

Vanquish 540 runs multi in all modes but recovery speed changes when in coin mode which is a 4, jewelry mode has a recovery speed of 5 and relic and all metal mode are a 2 compared to a equinox 800

I have a hard time understanding why you keep going back to the 540 and Apex when you’ve said yourself that the Simplex is 80% the Nox. Also, telling me how well you take care of your gear when I see it in a pile of stuff in the back of your car... can’t seem to remember to recharge machines, gopro, etc. I watch for pure entertainment now days. I am no expert but with your lead coming from your coil ; never wrap it around the shaft just above your coil as that can create a magnetic field. Its like you should never leave an electric lead in your house wrapped in a circle while using it as it can heat up and cause issues. So please to all metal detectorists on your lower shaft run it straight up and tie in place with your Velcro straps then if you want you can wrap it around on your upper shaft. It may make a little difference but its also better for your lead !

One of those three companies who sponsor shows on Detecting and who's moto seems to be "Dig everything" maybe its the skeptical NY'er in me but when I hear dig everything, what I really hear is our detector doesn't discriminate worth crap! Is it a good detector...yes. do you get a good bang for your buck sure. But is it the Detector some big name channels say it is who are sponsored by this company mmmmmm guessing not.

I bought a 540 2 months ago but because of lockdown couldn't use it until today. Its my first ever detector. I plumped for the Vanquish because it was voted a decent entry level machine and came with a free probe. I went to a local beach, wet and windy but quiet. (probably cos it was wet and windy) Within 3 yards of switching on i found a bottle top. But just a few paces later 3 coins at 1 depth of 3 inches. 22pence up on the day. First ever finds within 15 feet of the steps. Happy so far, just got to get used to all the noises.

I bought a quest x5 for my kid but it's way too chattery for a beginner. If u turn the sensitivity down to eliminate chatter enough for a beginner to handle it has no depth. Kind of reminds me of my old teknetics omega 8000.

I took my Vanquish apart and took out four resistors to quadruple sensitivity and put a 60 dollar noise gate out of an old MRX guitar pedal in it so only the solid signals come through the speaker. It really talks to me now and I`m hitting silver coins at 33 inches. Saving my money to rent small backhoes.
