Hi, my name is Merrill Kazanjian. New York City is an amazing place to go metal detecting. We have lots of parks, colonial history and great beaches for beach detecting. I have gone to all five boroughs of New York City To Metal Detect and beyond. I also currently own 16 metal detectors. I want to have the best and I want to help you choose the best as well. I think soil makes a big difference too. Example: My nickels in northern part of PA. ring from 11 up to 14 but main range is 12,13. There is a lot of minerals in the ground here, I some times see small amounts of rust as I dig but it is just the natural metal in the ground rusting. As a teacher you will like this; pencil tops ring up just like a nickel every time I find them... I hate pencil tops!!

Even when I tell myself not to , it seems I always end up cherry picking with my Nox 800. It usually starts at an hour or so in the hunt .I continue the hunt chasing the high 20s and up . That is not a very wise metal detecting strategy yet thats how I hunt with the Nox . Not sure if I'll ever really feel at one with it . Oh well ! Good job on the examples you made for us viewers 👍

Nice! I did an experiment, and filmed it all. Just have not loaded it to my YT. I dug 1000 holes, and recorded all the significant finds. It worked out to 2 gold rings in 1000 holes at the beach! That was the conclusion of my experiment. I was going to challenge other detectorists to the 1000 hole challenge, and see what averages they may have. I do think 1-2 gold rings per 1000 digs is about "normal" for me.

Ok. I have been watching these for a while now. These are very informative videos. So, you have inspired me to get my own metal detector! It's on order and should be here shortly. I will detect my back yard when it gets here then I am going to take it to the beach with me when I head out that way soon. I can hardly wait. I didn't go super expensive and got one that has the water proof coil and is height adjustable (I'm very short), and light weight (I have prior surgical issues with my arms). I hope to see if I love it as much as I have loved watching your videos and whether or not this becomes a "thing" for me. My hope is to have fun, find treasure and get more exercise. I will rig up something for the dog too and see if I can do this with him coming along where permitted. Wish me luck!! :)

Thanks for the extra effort put into how coins ring up. Of course, air testing gives only relative results that really do not reflect how in-ground IDs will be. Rather than look at dates, weigh your coins for your tests. My questions: Are you running the 3.0 upgrade which is more stable? Why is your sensitivity set so high? It appears you ran the tests in Beach Mode 2 which is for in-the-surf use (?) If you answered these questions in your video, I apologise. Whatever, since all objects were scanned with the same settings, you get some sense of the relative values. I watched this on my TV so I did not have access to your text. Thanks again for the detailed results you show.

I would have liked to see more of how you swing the coin ver the coil. I noticed at the first, with the Indian Heads it looked like you were swinging parallel with the coils detection pattern instead of swinging it as you would detect. That would account for a variation in VDIs on the same type of coin.

Great tutorial on Nox signals! Thanks for putting in all the effort! 👍 I find corrosion plays a big role. Hence the wide range in zincolns. I think the older stuff (IHP) might be less consistent due to metallurgical technology over 100 yrs ago being not as refined as today. Iron coins? Our Canadian coins are nickel-clad steel. Practically iron! Need Park for it and rings up jumpy from 13-15 and negatives. Park 1 just sounds like iron junk! Have to dig lots to train the ear for it! Make sure the DHB stuff doesn’t glow! Might need to see how they ring up under a geiger counter!😁

Hey Merrill, I know the VDI is the same on many targets but how about the tones on similar vdi objects. Can we use a musical note microphone 🎤 ( i don't know if that exists or what its called to decipher a range of tones and pitch) to hear the difference in tone, because im willing to bet a good ear can hear the different sounds in the same number values and i think that would be VALUABLE info to have. Go back and listen to the video without watching and HEAR it, very cool stuff.

One thing I can say about the equinox is to get in the habit of removing and cleaning the dirt from under the coil cover as it will mess with your readings. I'm still tinkering with my equinox for about a year now. Some days it seems like the best detector I could wish for and other days I wonder what happened.

I think as the coins either silver or copper can creat there own halo which can cause a slightly higher VDI. For example when you dig silver there is typically black soil surrounding it. That’s why sometimes you get a higher VDI. Wheat pennies are a good example too. I’ve dug many wheats that read as high as silver...26-29. I think the detector picks up the halo of the coin and gives a slightly higher vdi

@@BIKkeRrFoRRLLiFFEE yea, 30-31 wouldn’t make sense for a dime more like a quarter but with halo I think it would of gave it a higher VDI like you said. Cool!

I have a ring that shows 5 on vdi. I can't find a stamp and it has a silverish like coating. Could it be gold? I've noticed some gold rings on your list share a 5 vid # My 18 kt bracelet shows a 5 vdi also. Just picking your brain for thoughts. Also, heating the ring seems to expose a golden color Besides gold, Do any other ring shaped metals possess a 5 vdi?

Have you done the firmware update ? Hopefully. I'm wondering if anything like wifi is affecting it. I guess you're using multi because thats what you use at the beach, but does affect TID. For example I dont use multi sometimes on land, so I' might do a mini version of what you did, as I dont have near as many targets as that. Three times on three boards for kicks, to see what they differ like on the new 4khz, the multi and maybe 20khz for low conductors. Just like you as a test for TID because we already know what tone range your getting through the headphones. .. Thanks for this video ! I am going to get out on land with the new 4khz and try it, supposed to ID less jumpy on silver, and slightly deeper. Test it against multi :-) Keep up the good work and HH to ya' !!
