*Norton F. Humbert, son of Charles Humbert, was born on September 7, 1924. He graduated from Confluence High School in 1943 and attended Greenbrier Military School before enlisting in the U.S. Army. Mr. Humbert was a veteran of World War II, and attended Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science. He became a licensed funeral director in 1949. Over the years, he made several additions to the current building, updating it to its present appearance. Norton worked at the funeral home until his death on February 15, 1993 at the age of 68. Norton's son, Max Humbert, who was licensed in 1975, is the current owner and supervisor of Humbert Funeral Home. Max is a fourth generation funeral director.*

I have a theory that the location that you are metal detecting was possibly a field hospital of some sort which is why there's so many different artifax from allied and Axis soldiers do you think this may be possible
@jerryprice5484
@jerryprice5484 Жыл бұрын
I was thinking it could be either that, or possibly a POW compound. Those American buttons found early in the video came off an American wool overcoat. The button with the stars on it came off an American herringbone twill set of fatigues. They were riveted on the garment like the button on blue jeans. More common in the Pacific, not so much in the European theater.

I am impressed with you find the dogtag of Norton Humbert! And even more impressed that you were able to make contact with his family to find out that he survived the war! Confluence is a small town in southwestern Pennsylvania about 20 miles southwest of Somerset! Somerset was one of the first towns that the Pennsylvania Turnpike runs past when it was built in 1940! And It is also 10 miles south-southwest of Shanksville, PA. The crash site of one of the airliners, where the passengers were able to stop terrorists from doing any more damage in Washington DC! They were truly heroic in every sense of the word!

I know military ration pack’s (rat packs as we used to call them)are really quite good these days, but obviously back in the years from their introduction until at least 2003 (my retirement year) they were just about adequate, from a nutritional point they were fine, plenty of calories and energy providers, but they were difficult to get made up into a hot meal, especially when time was a critical factor, and when your were cold, wet through and exhausted the packets were virtually impossible to open, and at night in pitch black and no sound protocol was in force opening them would could be heard in the next continent, still, they did have some redeeming qualities, the bacon grill and pate were my favourite. @ 9:00 minutes in only and I don’t think I have ever seen you so excited by the finds, I thought the iron cross was a fantastic find, but then the cap badge of the greyhound and the pice de resistance, the SS ring, that must be a super rare and intriguing artefact????, I bet you were all shaking with excitement and joy.

Imagine having to wear all those pin on badges in combat! I imagine a good amount of those wings from the cap badges got snagged on something. When we ( US Army retired) wore the green woodland cammo (BDU) the buttons on the sleeve cuffs got snagged on EVERY damn thing within 5 feet of you.
