I believe it’s already been said but I want to say it again for the sake of spreading it more, the next two sections of the album after the altered beat suite actually have videos for each section and you’re able to just react to that. Love the gizz keep it up I always get excited whenever these come out

they played the whole album at red rocks, with the narration and everything, but they broke it down in 4 parts for different nights

It's kinda like how darkside of the moon it's a bunch of tracks that all sound like it could be one song, yes did the same thing with close to the edge where it's one song broken into many parts or acts. I think because back then they were writing for a vinyl record with 2 sides rather than a digital album with separate tracks, and I think king gizz do the same, if that makes any sense.

Live, they typically will do ~3 song suites from different albums. Sometimes more, sometimes less. For the Altered Beast songs, they can do anything from parts 1-4 with Alter Me interludes, to literally just one song from the suite. We got Altered Beast 4 by itself in Philly last year, was honestly a bit odd haha.

I’ve seen them live and they are constrained for time most nights. A normal set is about an hour and 15 mins and they will play all kinds of stuff out their discography. Sometimes they will announce a song or stop and talk to the crowd but a lot of times several songs will bleed into each other while jamming. This is different depending how far back you watch they’re a little more tight and jam less at sets. KEXP Murder of the universe is a great example of them slaying this album without saying shit lol.

So honest to god I think you would really dig Polygonwannaland. It has the most Tool influence out of all their albums. Its not as "fuck yea" as Petrodragonic. It is better suited to just listen to with headphones. But the guitar licks, polyrythmic drumming, and vocal melodies are fucking AWESOME. I'd rate it above even Nonagon although that one is sweet too. Personally my favorite album is Quarters and the only reason I'm not suggesting it is because it is the most psychodelic of all their albums IMO. As far as metal goes gotta listen to Infest the Rats nest when you get a chance. And definitely Gaia which is a one off metal song from Omnium Gatherum.

You asked about King Gizzard playing these tracks live, a few years ago they played the full Murder of the Universe album on KEXP, but they played the 3 chapters in backwards order! The structure of this record is definitely strange. I will say, the Altered Beast Saga is definitely the most repetitive and linear on the record. A lot of the Altered Beast tracks don't stand all that well on their own as they are so similar and are REALLY meant to be listened together all at once. However, the second two Sagas have a lot of tracks that stand a lot better on their own, but still go together to tell a cohesive story. I think the concept of the album structure will make a lot more sense once you get deeper into the record. Really hope you can do more songs per video!

King Gizzard distributes their own music except some vinyl is internationally done through ATO. They will copyright claim videos that play an entire song without editing and chopping it up however, Polygondwanaland is free use and public domain you could upload the album itself with no reaction and not have an issue. I’ve used crumbling castle as a backing track for a KZbin video on my other channel Oilboi710
