"I don't want to be fishing for fish; I just want to let them freely swim"

Oh fuck yeah we’re getting into fishies??? Dude you’re in for a treat. Def outside your comfort zone but always trust in the gizz!

One of my favorite King Gizz albums. I won't spoil a thing, but this is for sure an interesting album, it certainly does go places. Perfect springtime album too, released in April 2019 (4 months before Ratty). This song is nice, kinda reminds me of Octopus' Garden by The Beatles. The lyrics are a very anti-fishing, and also may imply that the character singing is being forced to fish against their will. Next up is Boogieman Sam, which is a personal favorite Gizz song of mine. I'll just say it now, EVERY King Gizz song with the word "boogie" somewhere in the title is a banger (at least in most peoples opinions). Let's hope they have a boogie on another album soon, we haven't gotten one since this album (not that non-boogie songs are bad, because they're not, its just been a while). Also, I wanted to touch on the album cover. The robot on the cover is straight up Han-Tyumi from Murder Of The Universe. The glasses on the cover of The Silver Cord (as well as Stu wearing overalls on the cover) are both references to this album cover. He's not fishing in a sea of fire, he's fishing in a normal sea/river/lake that's catching on fire. Also, if you place the Fishies cover and the Ratty cover next to eachother, theye connect perfectly. Sorry for the huge rant, there's just tons to say about this album. Make sure to check out the behind the scenes video "How to gut a Fishie" once you're done with this album.

Ambrose, more than any other member of the band, wanted to make a blues album. This was the result of those sessions, even though it strays quite a bit from traditional blues. For more animated Ambrose, definitely check out a live version of Boogieman Sam, anything from ‘23 will do.

Album cover…the robot is Han-Tyumi, their recurring character. Notice its outfit is what Stu wore in the Silver Cord video and the red glasses are his eyes.

When you get to boogie man Sam, PLEASE react to some of the 2023 US residency tour versions. I got to see it in Tennessee night 3 at the caverns, SERIOUS highlight of the show imho.

I believe those 'shell guitars' are on display at the Flightless Records store in Melbourne, along with other Gizz props like the Rats' Nest skull Fishing for Fishies is definitely my favourite music video by King Gizz so far, Jason Galea captures that nostalgic cartoonish vibe so well

For boogieman sam you definitely have to react to one of the live versions. Whether its red rocks, the salt shed, or caverns it doesnt matter, they've all got a massive bluesy rock jam fest at the end and its just phenomenal!

Please, when you get to the song "This thing" You have to react to the live version as well, which goes like 100 times harder There's a lot of versions of it, but my favorite on is called (Live in Brussels ’19), which doesnt have a video. There used to be one but they deleted it for some reason :(

I knew you’d pish yersel laughing watchin this video haha! It never fails to make me laugh no matter how many times I’ve watched it! It’s a happy sounding song musically but as an anti-fishing song it’s not that happy lyrically. I know you’re not much of a lyrics man, but maybe once you’ve finished reacting to the album pull up the lyrics and you’ll see the thematic tie-ins with Rats Nest. Also it took me accent to realise with your accent you said coral instruments and not choral instruments haha!

What a groovy fishy album, loved seeing ur reaction to this I totally recommend reacting to Boogieman Sam Live at the Tennessee Caverns 2023 I was there! It was literally the highlight of the whole show maybe (except for Magma god bless magma) it is significantly longer than the studio version because they do an insane bluesy dare I say country jam at the end but it’s honestly like one of their best jams ever Amby takes an improv frontman role and just absolutely kills it while everyone else is just going off with these funky blues licks, and also it’s a professional recorded video so the footage is great too

sounds like a knockoff disney movie of some kind. I think the actor's name is Don Knotts, if that's the deputy. He was in a weird live action movie "the incredible mr. limpet" which blends live action and animation. The movie was made by Warner Bros. in 1964, debuted five moths before Mary Poppins did.

You should check out Boogieman Sam live at the Salt Shed 2023. Could be a nice studio vs live kind of situatiin. That live version's 100000/10, the 13 minutes feel like 30 seconds.
