This is one of there best live songs. They almost always switch it up because they’ve been playing it for so long.

This song is an absolute King Gizzard classic. First time delving into a jazz-rock style, and their 4th time making an in-studio jam track (counting the Mind Fuzz medley as 1 track). This albums main gimmick is that every song (in the studio version) is exactly 10 minutes and 10 seconds long, making each song a quarter of the album, thus the name. To me, this album is kind of the Fishing For Fishies or Silver Cord to Mind Fuzz's Ratty or Petro. They were both recorded on their first U.S. tour in the same studio around the same time. Basically, Stu made 4 songs around loops on a loop pedal, and decided they'd be good as an album. After they finished recording and editing the album, Stu tranfered it to a VHS tape to get an even more lofi sound. I do think the evil live version is a much more technically impressive version for when I'm in the mood for a face-melting jam, while the studio version is for when I want to chill, much like what you said, though I do listen to the studio version often. The harmonica on the studio version is more of a textural thing, it's just there to make sounds. King Gizz has what they call the "bootlegger program", which basically means that all of their live and demo albums (and Polygondwanaland) are free to make bootlegs of. You can make vinyl records, CDs, cassettes, whatever you want as long as you send the band a few copies (unless it's Polygondwanaland, then you don't have to). Theoretically, you could make "RockdaRiff's Gizz Jam Mix" on CD and legally sell copies of it. Also, if you want those in a playlist on Apple Music, they also release their live and demo albums on their under the name "bootleg gizzard". Next up is Infinite Rise, which the community is very divided on, its either a great song or their worst, no in-between. I think it's great, but I'm gonna let you know the rest of the album is "an exercise in repetitive songwriting". It's good, but the songs could've been under 5 minutes if they were making a different album instead.

23:03 "Everyone's firing on all cylinders" you couldn't have known how right you were when you said it. This is my favorite version of my favorite song of theirs, everything from Red Rocks '22 is just masterful. It's my favorite live album ever, for a reason. I recommended so many songs from this show for you to Studio vs Live, but I didn't recommend this because I knew 30 other people would do it for me. It's just that good.

The plane at 14:00 is the Lonely Steel Sheet Flyer (I think... which is also the title of the last song in Quarters). You can see the plane blow up in the Dragon video! When Stu sings "Crocodile obsolete"

this was the band’s first real dive into jazz-rock, which they explored further on Sketches and then later IDPLML

This is a bowl packing album for sure. Every track is 10 minutes and 10 seconds, that's why he called it quarters. And they're all pretty chill like this. Also a fun fact, this song is in the same key/mode and time signature as Wah wah from nonagon Infinity. That's why they teased the Wah wah riff here and there

The studio version and Red Rocks are seven years apart, and in the case of KG it's light years, considering how much has happened in their career over the years. It's no wonder that the concert version is fantastic compared to the original. By the way, I like both very much.

From what I remember of reading an interview with Stu, this album is super cool because it was recorded using vhs tape. Unlike the gritty lofi style of reel to reel (heard on an album like Nonagon Infinity), vhs tape has a high quality lofi sound.

Part of the reason Mind Fuzz and Quarters are so lo-fi is because they were recorded while on tour in america, so they had less than a day to record each record
@shawnlilly59344 ай бұрын
Btw every song is 10:10 so don’t be surprised when they go on longer than maybe needed

Just for the record, this song leads into a killer live version of Magma, which I know is another standout song for you. This whole album is on Apple Music, and you should definitely give it a shot! It's a behemoth though, 8 and a half hours.

it doesnt lead into lol they break
@parkerdavis78593 ай бұрын
@@ashleyfox5825 i'm not really sure how to explain how they're in sequence with one another and pair nicely together in a listen without saying "lead into" and the break lasts for all of a few seconds
