For a band that has 46 tracks, none of which are even “average”, this is one of their masterpieces.

🐺It's called an Ice Bell. That 5/4 beat she does during the leadup to the climax is SO freaking cool and interesting. Thanks for the continuing reactions. I hope the KZbin Algorithm rewards both your channel and Lovebites with more recommendations. :o) 🐺

Love this song. The beginning is so beautiful and Miyako's showing where she shines in making that guitar sing with such emotion. THen they kick into high gear for the end. Thank you for reacting to this video.

LOVEBITES - Edge Of The World lyrics: Why do we learn to hate, deceive and lie, hurt each other? Why does it never end? The sorrow keeps on repeating Wailing, come downpours of the rain Will it end? No one ever knows Wondering, what only time can tell What is at the end of life? Why do we only see our own desires? Greed is endless Why is there authority when there is no justice in their rulings Struggling like feeble, helpless fools Will it end? No one ever knows Wandering, not knowing where to go Carrying the breath of life Standing at… The Edge of the World As long as you're still alive, remember - don't fear standing up, don't ever give it up Until the day you meet your end, it's not over - let your soul shine inside of your heart As long as you're still alive, remember - keep your dignity, stay true to who you are Until the day you meet your end, it's not over - let your heart love and always be loved How you live will always live on As your way of life, forever How you live will always live on As your way of life, forever How you live will always live on As your way of life, forever ----- lyrics: asami music: Mao arrangement: LOVEBITES (miho, haruna, midori, miyako, asami)

I pretty much agree with what you said. This band is awesome and they do excel at the heavy riffs and fast tempo. I love this one alot for Asami's vocals, and for the message in the lyrics, as well as the progressive changes in mood and tempo.

That mini cymbal is an Ice Bell. Haruna is a rare drummer who uses an ice bell regularly. That ice bell ringing with 16 beat bass drum is just insane. It's so brutal yet elegant. She is a powerful drummer yet insists on details as well. She really is a great drummer. If you like power/thrashy sound, try Set the World on Fire. kzbin.info/www/bejne/b2rdpHtsnqySbMU, or Hammer of Wrath kzbin.info/www/bejne/paWti4OLeNysha8, or Break the Wall kzbin.info/www/bejne/a4HGYYuBZdGBo7ecttps://kzbin.info/www/bejne/a4HGYYuBZdGBo7c, or Raise Some Hell kzbin.info/www/bejne/sJLQhIR6Za-IfM0

Roland is not a piano, but an electronic piano. Miyako, who first touched the electronic piano on the day of the concert, could not get used to the unique feel and was nervous until the concert was over.

I had the same thought about this being a them song for a James Bond theme. We think alike. The long high nots Asami sings, "What is at the end of life . . . ," is so powerful. She really holds that note and then when it should tail off she gives us a power up. That is breath control. And amazing. The Amazing Asami. Miyako's first solo reminds me so much of Gary Moore. I could just imagine his ghost standing looking over her shoulder and just smiling. This song is prog metal in the vein of Iron Maiden's Seventh Son of a Seventh Son. Not afraid to say it, but their music brings great emotion and occasional tears to my eyes. Edge of the World starts by painting the picture of a defeated person down on their luck. In the middle the person gathers strength to regroup and move on. The end is upbeat demonstrating hope of better days. Finally it is about legacy. "How you live will always live on as your way of life forever." Brilliant lyrics and arrangement. As Tony Stark found out in the end, "It's about legacy, isn't it." This could be any hero's journey or even any regular person's journey. Show your drummer this bell and I bet he gets one. I love all of their live versions but one studio version reigns over the live version and that was "When Destinies Align." The official video 4k version is better than the live versions I have seen. It's all in the arrangement at the end. It is okay to have a favorite. That, coming from me who was always my Mom's favorite.

I'm not a drummer, but I think I've heard that cymbal referred to as a "China". I could be wrong. But with respect to your comment about watching Midori and Miyako makes you want to pick up your guitar, I feel the same way. I pick up licks just from watching them. Some people it makes them want to put theirs away. LOL!

Before Swan Song, Edge of the World was and is, I would say that those two are in the same category and style just like Empty Daydream and Epilogue, and Frozen Serenade all classics and masterpieces

Yeah, as a big fan of symphonic rock/metal those are also my favorites and they also helped me in the beginning to like Asamis voice much more. First when i heared "When Destinys align" i loved the guitars, but the voice was just a bit underwhelming compared to singers like Floor Jansen, Simone Simons, Sharon den Adel and these kind of singers. But then someone suggested "Epilogue" and "Edge of the World" and since then i really started to love Asami also and could also like her much more in the pure power metal songs.

9.5" she indicated on the "club" blog. "It is an indispensable part of my drums. I use it somewhere in most of the songs, and it's the one that sometimes sounds like a kankan when I'm hitting the bass drum repeatedly." ~ Haruna

When they say Miyako seems to lack emotions on stage, they must watch without sound. She pours emotions in to her solos! when she channels Gary Moore it brings tears to my eyes. I have my own theory of why she's so controlled on stage - as a classical concert pianist I have a feeling she's taught to be stone faced. You seldom see the violinist rock out at a concert either...unless it's with Ayreon 😀

It's a beautiful song. Not like Opeth-level prog metal, but impressive still. I agree that you should check out Dystopia Symphony for another nice proggy song from them. I love their power metal songs as much as everyone else, but I would love to see them delve even deeper into prog territory. And definitely retain the more traditional heavy metal and thrash metal sound as well.

I would not classify Edge of the World among their prog stuff, it's one of their ballads. For Progressive stuff check Dystopia Symphony, though it is only on audio format.

Everyone who grew up listening to prog-rock would disagree with in claiming Edge of the World is a mere ballad, you want a ballad then you have to mention Epilogue. Prog-rock is all about layers and layers of songs put into one so don't tell me it isn't a prog song get your facts right buddy go back and listen to many bands of the '70s

There are lots of bands that can thrash and shred. Some of them even do it well. But there few in history that could pull off a ballad of this quality. Pink Floyd for sure. Maybe Priest? Not many others. Oh, the cymbal that rings out like that is a "china".
